LONDON, United Kingdom – Former U.S. President Joe Biden’s prostate cancer has spread to his bones and other parts of his body and is causing significant pain, his son Hunter Biden said in a BBC interview broadcast Friday.

Hunter Biden became emotional while discussing his father’s condition and described the illness as difficult for the family. He said the cancer had metastasized beyond the prostate and was affecting Biden’s health significantly.

“The cancer has spread, metastasized into his bones and further,” Hunter Biden said. “It’s very painful and it’s very debilitating in many respects.”

Joe Biden, 83, continues to make public appearances and speak about issues that remain important to him, according to his son.

Hunter Biden said his father remains committed to public life despite his illness.

“He’s still doing his thing,” Hunter Biden said. “He so believes in this country.”

Biden’s Cancer Diagnosis

Biden’s office announced in May 2025 that he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that had already spread to his bones. He left the White House less than four months earlier after serving one presidential term.

Hunter Biden said the diagnosis has been difficult for the family and expressed concern about the pain his father is experiencing.

He also said he wished Biden would complain more about his condition, emphasizing the seriousness of the illness.

The latest comments from Hunter Biden provide additional information about Biden’s condition but do not establish a new medical prognosis or provide details about his current treatment.

Health Became a Major Political Issue

Questions about Biden’s age and health became increasingly prominent during his presidency and ultimately played a major role in the 2024 presidential campaign.

Biden, then 81, faced intensified scrutiny after his June 2024 debate performance against Donald Trump. He subsequently ended his reelection campaign and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee.

Trump defeated Harris in the November 2024 election and succeeded Biden as president in January 2025.

Biden’s health has remained a subject of public attention since leaving office, particularly following his cancer diagnosis.

Former President Remains Publicly Active

Despite his illness, Biden has continued to participate in public events and discuss political and national issues, according to Hunter Biden.

The former president is also preparing to publish a memoir, “Promise Me, America,” after the 2026 midterm elections.

Hunter Biden’s comments offer a personal account of his father’s condition, but neither the interview nor the AP report provides additional details about Biden’s treatment, current medical outlook or prognosis.

The former president’s representatives have not publicly released further medical information in connection with Hunter Biden’s latest comments.

This report is based on reporting by The Associated Press.
