Dennis Rodman Apologizes to Daughter Trinity Rodman After Her Candid Remarks on His Absence

Five-time NBA champion Dennis Rodman has publicly apologized to his daughter, Olympic gold medal-winning soccer star Trinity Rodman, after she opened up about his absence in her life during a recent Call Her Daddy podcast interview. Trinity, who has achieved significant success in women’s soccer, criticized her father for not being there for her emotionally and physically during her upbringing.

In the podcast, Trinity shared her deep frustrations with her father’s absence, saying, “He’s not a dad. Maybe by blood, but nothing else. Hearing his voice is painful.”

In response to the interview, Dennis Rodman took to Instagram to post an emotional apology. He expressed regret for not being the father his daughter wanted, but reaffirmed his continuous effort to maintain a relationship. “Sorry I wasn’t the dad you wanted me to be, but I still tried, and I will never stop trying,” he wrote. “I’m always here… I will try even when it’s difficult, and even when you’re told not to respond to my calls.”

Dennis further shared that he watches Trinity’s games when he can and once flew to see her play soccer. However, he recounted that he had to watch from a hotel balcony after being advised not to attend due to the people he was with at the time. Despite these efforts, he expressed his wish that his children would call him and visit him one day.

Trinity, who has had a successful career, including winning a gold medal with the U.S. Women’s National Team at the Paris Olympics, explained how difficult her childhood was. “We had to live in a car for a while,” she revealed, describing how she and her mother struggled financially despite Dennis’s NBA earnings. She recounted how Dennis, who earned over $27 million during his NBA career, was initially supportive but became distant after his divorce from her mother, Michelle Moyer, in 2012.

“Before the divorce, my dad helped us financially, but after that, it was like ‘F**k you guys,’” Trinity said. She went on to call him “extremely selfish” and emphasized that his life always seemed to revolve around himself.

Trinity’s relationship with her father has been tumultuous over the years. She recalled a painful experience when Dennis showed up unannounced at her game during her rookie season with the Washington Spirit in 2021. Though the Spirit won the match, Trinity was furious and overwhelmed with emotion. “You took this happy moment from me. You f**ked with my head again,” she said. Later, they shared a tearful embrace, which went viral, giving hope for a possible reconciliation. However, after that, the communication stopped once again, leaving Trinity disappointed and losing hope in ever having a meaningful relationship with her father.

Dennis met Trinity’s mother in 1999, and they had two children, DJ Jr. and Trinity, before marrying in 2003. Their marriage ended in a divorce finalized in 2012. Dennis has been open about his struggles as a parent, citing his own difficult relationship with his father as a factor that made it hard for him to break the cycle of absentee parenting. “It’s very hard for me to break out of that cycle. I never had anyone to ever do that for me,” he told ESPN in 2019.
