Private Jets Collide at Scottsdale Airport, Killing at Least One

Deadly Mid-Air Collision at Arizona Airport

At least one person was killed, and several others were injured after two private jets collided Monday afternoon at Scottsdale Airport, Arizona, officials confirmed.

How the Crash Happened

  • A midsize business jet veered off the runway and crashed into another private jet that was parked on private property, according to Kelli Kuester, Aviation Planning and Outreach Coordinator at Scottsdale Airport.
  • The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident.

Casualties and Rescue Efforts

  • One person has died as a result of the crash.
  • Two injured individuals were rushed to trauma centers.
  • One person remains trapped inside the wreckage, and emergency teams are working urgently to rescue them.
  • Scottsdale Fire Department Captain Dave Folio stated, “We’re doing everything we can to extricate and save the one soul that’s still on board.”

Impact on the Airport

  • The runway has been closed indefinitely as investigators assess the scene.
  • Scottsdale Airport is a major hub for private jets, especially during high-profile events like the Waste Management Phoenix Open, a golf tournament that attracts thousands of visitors just a few miles away.

Recent Aviation Disasters Raise Concerns

This collision adds to a series of fatal aviation accidents in the U.S. over the past two weeks:

  1. Jan. 29: A commercial jetliner and an Army helicopter collided near Washington, D.C., killing 67 people.
  2. Jan. 31: A medical transportation plane crashed in Philadelphia, killing six passengers and one person on the ground.
  3. Last week: A small commuter plane crashed in Alaska while en route to Nome, killing all 10 people on board.

Authorities’ Response

Officials continue investigating the Scottsdale crash, and the FAA will determine the cause of the accident. Emergency responders remain on-site, working to clear the wreckage and rescue any remaining victims.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to everybody involved in this,” Captain Folio expressed.
