Deported Maryland Man Tied to Human Smuggling, Gang Activity, and Domestic Violence, Records Show

Newly surfaced documents are shedding light on the background of Kilmar Abrego Garcia — an illegal immigrant recently deported by the Trump administration — whose case has been championed by some Democrats. Despite public calls for his return, records reveal a troubling history linking Abrego Garcia to human smuggling operations, gang affiliation, and domestic abuse.

On December 1, 2022, Tennessee Highway Patrol pulled over Abrego Garcia while he was behind the wheel of a black Chevrolet Suburban. According to Department of Homeland Security (DHS) sources, the vehicle was registered to Jose Ramon Hernandez Reyes, a known human smuggler and illegal immigrant who had previously pleaded guilty to smuggling people across the U.S.-Mexico border.

Inside the SUV were eight passengers, all of whom gave the same address as Abrego Garcia — a red flag for potential human trafficking. The officer who stopped him noted that there was no luggage and suspected the trip was not for the stated purpose of construction work in Maryland.

Although Abrego Garcia was initially stopped for speeding and swerving, he was ultimately only warned for driving with an expired license. The officer also noted Abrego Garcia appeared to intentionally downplay his English fluency, possibly to avoid further questioning.

According to additional documents confirmed by DHS, the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) office in Baltimore had already flagged the vehicle as part of an ongoing human smuggling investigation. Officials said the SUV had been tracked making multiple trips to the southern border to transport non-citizens into the U.S.

Abrego Garcia’s run-ins with law enforcement go back years. In 2019, he was arrested in Hyattsville, Maryland, where the Prince George’s County Police Gang Unit identified him as a member of the notorious MS-13 gang.

A federal immigration court later ruled that Abrego Garcia was not eligible for release, citing credible evidence of his gang affiliation. The court found no reliable counter-evidence to dispute claims about his gang involvement, rank, or activities.

The troubling picture doesn’t end there. Court records reviewed by Fox News show a history of domestic violence accusations from his wife, Jennifer Vasquez. In her own handwritten statement filed in 2021, Vasquez detailed multiple incidents of physical abuse, including being punched, scratched, and beaten with a work boot.

“I am afraid to be close to him,” she wrote, adding that she had photographic and video proof of her injuries. She also described an incident in which Abrego Garcia tore off her clothes in a fit of rage and left bruises on her arm.

Despite these revelations, some Democratic figures have been vocal about demanding Abrego Garcia’s return to the U.S., presenting him as a deportee caught in a broken immigration system. However, these newly uncovered records raise serious concerns about that narrative.
