Actor and musician Jared Leto has denied allegations of sexual assault and misconduct presented in a newly released BBC documentary, calling the claims “absolutely and categorically false.”

In a statement provided Wednesday to The Associated Press, the 54-year-old Academy Award-winning actor said he had “never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life.”

The statement followed the release of the BBC documentary Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret, which features allegations from four women concerning incidents they said occurred between 2002 and 2016, when they were teenagers and Leto was an adult.

Documentary Details Allegations

According to the documentary, one woman alleged she was 17 when she was sexually assaulted, while another accused Leto of statutory rape when she was also 17.

A third woman alleged she was 19 when Leto threatened her with sexual assault, while another said she was 16 when Leto made sexually explicit phone calls and propositioned her.

The BBC said it corroborated the women’s accounts during its reporting. However, the allegations have not been independently verified by The Associated Press. The documentary does not publicly identify the women by their full names.

According to the BBC, Leto did not respond to requests for comment during the documentary’s production.

Following Leto’s public denial, The Associated Press said it contacted the BBC on Wednesday seeking a response.

Leto Rejects the Allegations

Leto denied all of the allegations in his statement to the AP.

He described the accusations as “absolutely and categorically false” and said he had never sexually assaulted anyone.

As of publication, no criminal charges related to the allegations had been reported, and no court findings regarding the claims were cited in the documentary or by The Associated Press.

Earlier Misconduct Claims

The documentary follows allegations reported by Air Mail in 2025, in which nine women accused Leto of misconduct.

A representative for Leto denied those allegations when they were published.

The BBC documentary revisits those earlier claims while presenting additional allegations from four women.

Career and Public Profile

Leto won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Dallas Buyers Club and is also the lead vocalist of the rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars.

He most recently appeared as Skeletor in Masters of the Universe.

The documentary has renewed public attention on allegations involving a prominent entertainment figure while presenting differing accounts from the accusers and Leto, who has categorically denied the claims.

This report is based on reporting by The Associated Press.
