He initially aimed to complete the journey in 60 days, attempting a 150km push on the final leg. “I’m over the moon,” Pitcher told BBC Radio Berkshire. “It would have been great to finish in a round 60 days, but I’m incredibly proud of what I’ve accomplished.”

The run was about more than breaking records. Pitcher and Smith used their journey to raise funds for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, and ARC Wokingham, a volunteer-led counseling service. Having faced his own struggles with depression, Pitcher hopes his journey inspires others battling mental health challenges.
“When I get home, I want to explore motivational speaking and working in mental health,” he said.
Overcoming Obstacles
The journey was not without its difficulties. Pitcher described storms, exhaustion, and even hallucinations during the long run. He also spoke of the support he received from kind strangers along the way.
“People were so generous. They’d offer cold drinks or encouragement, which kept me going,” he said.
For Smith, despite having to step back from running, the experience was transformative. “He still managed to run 2,700 kilometers at just 21 years old,” Pitcher noted. “That’s an incredible feat for someone so young.”
