Mega Millions Jackpot Skyrockets to $944 Million for Christmas Eve Draw

This Christmas Eve, one fortunate lottery ticket could transform someone’s holiday season with a staggering Mega Millions jackpot estimated at $944 million—making it the largest prize ever offered in December.

Jackpot Grows After No Winner on Friday

With no winner in Friday’s drawing, the jackpot surged from $862 million to nearly $1 billion for Tuesday’s drawing. If someone hits the jackpot, they’ll have the choice of receiving the money through annuitized payments or opting for a lump sum payout estimated at $429.4 million.

Friday’s numbers were 2, 20, 51, 56, 67, and the Mega Ball 19, but no ticket matched all six. However, five tickets still won $1 million each by matching the first five numbers. Those winning tickets were sold in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, and Pennsylvania, as confirmed by the Mega Millions website.

2023: An Unprecedented Year for Mega Millions

This holiday drawing caps what Mega Millions is calling its “most unusual jackpot year.” Since the game began in 2002, this year marks the first time every jackpot awarded has ranked among the top 10 largest in the game’s history:

  • March: A New Jersey ticket holder claimed an eye-popping $1.13 billion prize.
  • June: An anonymous Illinois player won $552 million with an online purchase.
  • September: A Houston-area resident took home a massive $800 million jackpot after buying a ticket in Sugar Land, Texas.

A Lucky Month for Lottery Players

December has historically been a lucky month for Mega Millions players, with 13 jackpots won during the holiday season. However, a jackpot has only been won once on Christmas Eve, making Tuesday’s drawing particularly exciting.

What Are the Odds?

Despite the excitement, winning the Mega Millions jackpot remains a long shot, with odds standing at approximately 1 in 302.5 million.

The Holiday Spirit Fuels Ticket Sales

Mega Millions officials report that ticket sales typically spike during the holidays. “People are out shopping, and there’s a sense of magic in the air,” said Joshua Johnston, the lead director of the Mega Millions Consortium.

“There’s really no other product out there for just two bucks that gives you the chance to dream about what it would feel like to win that kind of money,” Johnston added.

Dream Big This Holiday Season

Whether you’re buying a ticket for yourself or as a fun holiday gift, this record-breaking jackpot has captured the imagination of millions. With the holiday spirit in full swing, many are wondering: Could this Christmas Eve mark a historic win?

Don’t Miss Out

Get your tickets before the drawing and see if you’ll be the one to unwrap the biggest gift of all—a life-changing fortune.
