17 Injured in Knife Attack at Hamburg Train Station, Woman Arrested at the Scene

A shocking stabbing attack unfolded at Hamburg’s central train station on Friday evening, leaving 17 people injured, including four in life-threatening condition. Authorities have arrested a 39-year-old woman, a German national, in connection with the incident.

What Happened?

According to police reports, the attack occurred around 6 p.m. local time on a platform between tracks 13 and 14, where passengers were boarding a high-speed ICE train. The suspect allegedly began stabbing people seemingly at random.

The woman was arrested at the scene without resistance, and a knife has been recovered. Police believe she acted alone, and investigations into her background and motives are ongoing.

Condition of the Victims

Emergency responders described the aftermath as severe:

  • 4 victims are in critical condition
  • 6 others sustained serious injuries
  • 7 more were treated for minor wounds

All injured were transported swiftly to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Suspect’s Motive Under Investigation

While authorities have not identified a clear motive, investigators are exploring the possibility that the attacker may be suffering from mental health issues, according to police spokesperson Florian Abbenseth.

There are currently no signs of political or ideological motivation, though inquiries remain active.

Immediate Response

Following the attack, the platform was sealed off, and the station experienced temporary disruptions. Images showed a high-speed train with its doors open on the affected platform shortly after the incident.

Germany’s national rail operator, Deutsche Bahn, released a brief statement expressing its concern:

“We are deeply shocked by this terrible act of violence.”

The incident has sparked renewed conversations about public safety in transport hubs across Germany. Authorities are urging witnesses to come forward as they work to piece together the events leading up to the attack.
