Trump Supports DOGE Savings Plan to Give Dividends to Americans

President Donald Trump expressed support on Wednesday for the idea of using savings from Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to provide a dividend to U.S. citizens.

Speaking at an investment conference in Miami, Trump revealed that the administration is considering a proposal where 20% of the savings generated by DOGE’s cost-cutting efforts would be distributed to American citizens, while another 20% would be used to reduce the national debt.

Incentivizing Waste Reduction

Trump emphasized that the potential dividend payments would encourage citizens to report wasteful government spending. “They’ll be reporting it themselves,” Trump said, noting that people would be actively involved in helping save money. “They participate in the process of saving us money.”

Musk’s Role in the Plan

Later, while aboard Air Force One on his return to Washington, Trump was asked by a reporter about the idea suggested by Musk. “I love it,” Trump said, expressing his enthusiasm for the plan.

Just a day before, Musk had hinted at the idea on his social media platform, stating he would “check with the President” about announcing a “DOGE Dividend.” This dividend would potentially send a refund to taxpayers from the savings generated by DOGE’s efforts. So far, DOGE’s initiatives have already led to the firing or laying off of thousands of federal government employees.
