Michigan’s Stunning Upset Over Ohio State Descends into Chaos with Midfield Brawl

The Michigan Wolverines’ dramatic 13-10 victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday took an ugly turn when a brawl broke out at midfield moments after the game ended.

Tensions escalated when a Michigan player attempted to plant the team’s flag on Ohio State’s midfield logo, a moment captured by FOX Sports. While the identity of the player responsible wasn’t immediately clear, video footage showed Ohio State players rushing toward the center of the field in response. Among them, Ohio State defensive end Jack Sawyer was seen grabbing the flag and throwing it to the ground.

The altercation quickly spiraled, involving several players from both teams. Law enforcement officers rushed in to break up the scuffle, with some using pepper spray to disperse the crowd. Videos shared on social media showed players from both sides visibly affected by the spray, wincing in pain.

The Ohio State University Police Department confirmed the use of pepper spray in a statement posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
“Following the game, officers from multiple law enforcement agencies assisted in breaking up an on-field altercation. During the scuffle, multiple officers representing Ohio and Michigan deployed pepper spray. OSUPD is the lead agency for games and will continue to investigate,” the statement read.

In the aftermath, Michigan running back Kalel Mullings spoke to FOX Sports, expressing his disappointment over the incident.
“It was such a great game. You hate to see stuff like that happen after the game,” Mullings said. “Bad for the sport, bad for college football. At the end of the day, they gotta learn how to lose, man. You can’t be fighting just because you lost a game.

“We had 60 minutes and four quarters to do all that fighting, and now people want to talk and fight. That’s wrong. It’s bad for the game — classless, in my opinion. People need to be better.”

The dramatic finish to the heated rivalry game was overshadowed by the chaos that followed, leaving questions about sportsmanship and discipline on both sides. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
