Hospital official Niraj Uttamani elaborated on the situation, sharing, “He is currently undergoing surgery. The extent of the damage will be understood once the procedure is complete.” A small foreign object was reportedly found near Khan’s spine during medical examinations.
A Bollywood Icon
Khan, one of India’s most bankable stars, has appeared in over 70 films and television series, also venturing into production. He is the son of the late cricket legend Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi and veteran actress Sharmila Tagore. Khan resides in Bandra, a prominent suburb of Mumbai, with his wife, Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, and their two children.
Incident Details
The attack occurred during a suspected burglary attempt at Khan’s home. Police have launched an investigation and are actively searching for the intruder. A female staff member at the residence was also injured in the incident and is receiving medical care.
Representatives of Kareena Kapoor Khan confirmed Saif’s condition, adding, “The rest of the family is doing fine.”
Calls for Enhanced Security
The high-profile attack has sparked concerns about safety in Mumbai, particularly in celebrity-dense areas.
“If such high-profile people with security can be attacked in their homes, what could happen to common citizens?” questioned Clyde Crasto, spokesperson for the Nationalist Congress Party, on X (formerly Twitter).
Actor and filmmaker Pooja Bhatt echoed similar sentiments, urging for stronger police presence in Bandra. “The city, and especially the queen of the suburbs, have never felt so unsafe before,” she wrote on X.
Political Context
The incident comes just months after India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies won the state elections in Maharashtra, of which Mumbai is the capital.
The shocking episode has triggered widespread calls for enhanced security measures in the city, especially in areas housing members of the film industry.
