Coldplay Concert Clip Puts Tech CEO on Leave After Viral Embrace

A light-hearted moment at a Coldplay concert has turned into a major shake-up at a New York tech company. Astronomer, a data software firm, announced its CEO Andy Byron has been placed on leave after a video of him cuddling with a colleague during the show went viral.

The company confirmed the news Friday night, saying co-founder Pete DeJoy is now serving as interim CEO while the situation is under review.

Viral Moment Sparks Leadership Change

It all started Wednesday night at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts, where Coldplay was performing “The Jumbotron Song.” As cameras panned the crowd, they landed on Byron and Kristin Cabot, the company’s Chief People Officer. The two were seen embracing, then quickly pulling away and ducking out of frame when they realized they were on the stadium’s giant screen.

Even Coldplay frontman Chris Martin chimed in, joking from the stage:

“Whoa, look at these two. Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.”

That comment — along with the awkward reaction — fueled curiosity online. It wasn’t long before internet users identified both people in the clip, leading to widespread speculation about their relationship.

Company Responds on Social Media

Astronomer responded Friday with a statement on LinkedIn, emphasizing its commitment to leadership accountability.

“Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability,” the company wrote.

The board of directors has started a formal investigation, and the company says more information will be shared soon.

They also addressed online confusion, noting that a third person was misidentified in the video and that a fake social media account had falsely posted a statement pretending to be from Byron.

What’s Next for Astronomer?

As the internet continues to buzz with memes and reaction videos, Astronomer is trying to move forward. With Pete DeJoy stepping in as interim CEO, the company is focusing on stability and transparency.

Meanwhile, the video — and Chris Martin’s commentary — keeps gaining views across social platforms. What began as a concert crowd shot is now a real-world example of how quickly a viral moment can lead to big consequences.
