The Happy Gilmore Putter Is Real—Here’s Where and When to Buy It - Odyssey

A Legendary Movie Prop Comes to Life

Nearly three decades after Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore became a pop culture phenomenon, golf fans and film buffs alike can finally get their hands on one of the sport’s most iconic fictional clubs: the hockey stick putter.

In celebration of the upcoming Netflix release of Happy Gilmore 2 on July 25, Callaway’s Odyssey brand has announced a limited-edition retail release of the legendary club that helped the eccentric title character defeat villain Shooter McGavin and win the climactic Tour Championship.

First seen in the original 1996 comedy, the club was gifted to Happy by his mentor, Chubbs Peterson (played by the late Carl Weathers), ahead of the final tournament. It quickly became a fan-favorite symbol of the movie’s irreverent take on golf, mixing slap-shot hockey bravado with traditional country-club greens.

From Fictional Gag to Functional Gear

The 2025 version of the Happy Gilmore Hockey Stick putter stays true to its on-screen design while incorporating modern materials and Odyssey’s signature performance features.

At 44 inches long with a 57-degree lie angle, the club is more akin to a driver in size, deliberately designed to support Happy’s signature slap-shot putting style. The grip extends 21 inches, far longer than standard putters, to match the exaggerated motion Sandler’s character used in the original film.

The face features Odyssey’s well-known White Hot insert—one of the largest ever produced for a putter—engineered to provide enhanced feel and feedback. Two additional inserts sit toward the heel and toe to help improve weight distribution and consistency on off-center strikes.

But it’s not all about performance. The putter doubles as a collector’s item, complete with a custom tube sock–style headcover stitched with Happy’s name and his famous phrase, “Just tap it in.”

Not Conforming—But Still a Crowd-Pleaser

While fully functional for recreational play, the Hockey Stick putter is technically non-conforming under USGA rules due to its flat rear edge, making it ineligible for official tournament use.

Callaway has been transparent about the design, emphasizing the club’s novelty and nostalgia over competitive functionality.

“Sure, you won’t see it on the PGA Tour,” a Callaway spokesperson said. “But that doesn’t mean you can’t bring it out to the local course and have a little fun.”

Limited-Edition Golf Balls to Match

In tandem with the putter release, Callaway is also launching a limited-edition box of Chrome Tour golf balls—the same model used by Happy Gilmore in the upcoming sequel.

Each sleeve features hockey stick icons, stylized branding, and iconic movie quotes like “Just tap it in” and “It’s all in the hips.” These collector’s balls are being released ahead of the putter, hitting stores on July 11 for $49.99 per dozen.

A Nostalgic Marketing Play with Mass Appeal

The product launch is part of a broader marketing campaign to reignite enthusiasm for the Happy Gilmore franchise, which has become a lasting cultural touchstone in both golf and comedy circles.

“It’s so exciting for us to be part of one of the most iconic golf franchises and to be able to update the famous Hockey Stick Putter, as well as bring the exclusive Chrome Tour Balls to the market,” said Nick McInally, Callaway’s vice president of global marketing.

The club’s exaggerated design, coupled with its pop culture status, is expected to appeal to a wide range of buyers—from serious golfers seeking a conversation piece to movie fans looking for a slice of cinematic history.

As Happy Gilmore 2 gears up to introduce the next chapter of the franchise to a new generation, Callaway’s collectible gear offers fans a tangible way to reconnect with the movie that brought hockey sticks to the putting green—and irreverence to a traditionally buttoned-up sport.

Whether it’s for laughs, love of the game, or a place on the wall of your man cave, the Happy Gilmore putter promises to bring some movie magic to the course. Just don’t forget: it’s all in the hips.
