Sophia Hutchins, Caitlyn Jenner’s Manager and Lumasol Founder, Dies at 29 in Malibu ATV Crash

Sophia Hutchins, the entrepreneur and longtime manager of Caitlyn Jenner, has died in a tragic ATV accident in Malibu. She was 29 years old.

Multiple outlets, including TMZ and People, reported that the accident occurred Wednesday morning on a road near Jenner’s Malibu home. According to law enforcement and family sources, Hutchins collided with a moving car while riding an ATV. The impact reportedly sent the vehicle off the road and down a 350-foot ravine. No injuries were reported among those in the car.

A Trusted Confidant to Caitlyn Jenner

Hutchins rose to prominence in part through her close friendship and professional relationship with Caitlyn Jenner. The two met shortly after Jenner publicly came out as a transgender woman. Rumors about a romantic relationship between them circulated for years—rumors Hutchins strongly denied.

“We were never romantically involved,” she told The New York Times in 2019. “I don’t feel a need to address my sex life, quite frankly, unless I want to.”

Hutchins met Jenner through her makeup artist at a photo shoot. They quickly bonded over their shared sense of humor and later grew close. During her senior year at Pepperdine University, Hutchins moved into Jenner’s home and took over management of her business affairs.

“I saw nobody was managing her, and there were all these people taking massive advantage,” she told the Times. “And I was saying, ‘Caitlyn, if I don’t step in here and start managing you, you’re going to go broke.’”

In a statement at the time, Jenner described Hutchins as her “best friend, family and confidant,” calling her “one of the top minds in her field” with “an entrepreneurial spirit” that had “sky-is-the-limit” potential.

A Voice in Activism and Business

Originally from the Seattle area, Hutchins was a transgender woman who opened up about her gender identity during her college years. In an interview with Pepperdine Graphic, she spoke candidly about taking a semester off to transition and navigate her identity away from her family’s expectations.

“I never thought a lot about [transitioning] until I got into college,” she said. “I was able to break away from my family and start to establish my own identity.”

Though she later expressed regret about publicly discussing her transition, telling the Times, “Had I not done that interview, I never would have come out. Now people can’t really see past the trans thing.”

Hutchins later served as the executive director and CEO of Caitlyn Jenner’s transgender activism foundation.

In addition to her work with Jenner, Hutchins launched the sunscreen brand Lumasol and became increasingly involved in conservative politics. She served as a surrogate for former President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign, frequently appearing on television and posing for photos with the former president. In one Instagram post from February 2024, she wrote:

“The energy, passion and commitment for our movement to Save America has never been greater! We will never give up!”

She and Jenner also attended events tied to Trump’s second inauguration, including the Starlight Ball.

Tributes and Reactions

As of now, neither Caitlyn Jenner nor Hutchins’ representatives have issued public statements about her passing. The Hollywood Reporter has reached out for comment.

Hutchins is remembered as a bold entrepreneur, a loyal friend, and a rising figure in both business and political circles.
