Netanyahu Says Israel ‘Probably’ Killed Senior Hamas Leader as Gaza Offensive Expands

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Wednesday that Israel has “probably” killed Mohammed Sinwar, a senior Hamas commander and brother of slain Gaza leader Yahya Sinwar. The claim comes amid an intensifying Israeli military campaign across the Gaza Strip.

Major Strike Targets Hamas Leadership

In a televised press conference—Netanyahu’s first in months—he revealed that Israeli forces are believed to have eliminated several key Hamas figures. Among them: Mohammed Deif, Ismail Haniyeh, Yahya Sinwar, and now, likely Mohammed Sinwar.

“We have eliminated tens of thousands of terrorists,” Netanyahu said. “And probably Mohammed Sinwar.”

Sinwar was targeted during a major airstrike on the European Hospital in Khan Younis last week. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the strike killed 28 Palestinians and injured over 50 others.

If confirmed, Sinwar’s death would mark another high-profile blow to Hamas’ leadership, although the group remains operational and in control of parts of Gaza.

Israel Vows to Take Full Control of Gaza

Netanyahu also declared that Israeli forces will not stop until the entire Gaza Strip is under Israeli security control.

“At the end of the operation, all areas of the Strip will be under Israeli security control,” he stated.

He did leave the door open for a temporary ceasefire, but made it clear that an end to the war hinges on several conditions:

  • The complete demilitarization of Gaza
  • The removal of Hamas from power
  • The implementation of the U.S.-backed voluntary emigration plan

Netanyahu referenced the Trump-era plan allowing Palestinians who wish to leave Gaza to do so.

“Gaza will be completely demilitarized… The residents of Gaza who wish to leave – will be able to leave.”

He added that calls to halt Israel’s military operation now would amount to leaving Hamas in control.

U.S.-Israel Alignment on Iran

Netanyahu also touched on Iran, stating that Israel is in “full coordination” with the United States regarding Tehran’s nuclear ambitions. His comments come as the U.S. reportedly pursues a new nuclear agreement with Iran.

“Israel has the right to defend itself against a regime that threatens to destroy it,” Netanyahu asserted.

CNN recently reported that U.S. intelligence suggests Israel may be preparing for a potential strike on Iranian nuclear facilities.

This story is developing. More updates are expected as Israel continues its operations in Gaza and diplomatic discussions with the U.S. unfold.
