Speaking to reporters while visiting a care home in Carlisle on Friday, Streeting said the government takes these issues “incredibly seriously.” He also invited Musk to collaborate with the government, suggesting that he could play an important role in addressing these challenges through his social media platform.

“We’re willing to work with Elon Musk, who I think has got a big role to play with his social media platform to help us and other countries tackle these serious issues,” Streeting said. “If he wants to work with us and roll his sleeves up, we’d welcome that.”

The UK Government’s Stance

While some members of the Conservative Party, including Kemi Badenoch, have called for a full national public inquiry into the issue of grooming gangs, they have also criticized Musk for spreading “factually inaccurate” information. The Tories distanced themselves from Musk’s calls for Phillips to be jailed, and some Conservative figures have accused him of sharing unverified claims on X without properly assessing their accuracy.

Alicia Kearns, the Conservative spokesperson for safeguarding, also criticized Musk for “drawing attention away from the survivors and victims” of these crimes, suggesting that his actions could be damaging. She further condemned Musk for supporting controversial figures like far-right activist Tommy Robinson.

Health Minister Andrew Gwynne also weighed in, suggesting that Musk should focus on US politics, where he is expected to advise the incoming Trump administration on federal spending. He pointed out that numerous inquiries have already been carried out in the UK, adding that there comes a point where additional inquiries are unnecessary.

“If Elon Musk really paid attention to what’s been going on in this country, he might have recognized that there have already been inquiries,” Gwynne said during an interview with LBC Radio.
