Carol Burnett at 91: A Legacy of Laughter, Hope, and Her Own Terms

At 91, Carol Burnett has certainly earned her right to retire.

But does she actually want to? In a recent interview with Variety, the Emmy-winning actress was asked if her latest role in “Palm Royale” would be her final performance.

“Probably,” she replied, “unless there’s a cameo or something fun!”

For Burnett, “fun” is her guiding principle.

“If it seems like it’s going to be enjoyable, I want to be involved,” she said.

This beloved comedic icon maintains complete control over her career, reminiscent of when she chose to conclude her immensely popular variety series, “The Carol Burnett Show.”

“I decided to wrap it up because I felt we had explored just about every angle, and we were starting to repeat ourselves,” she reflected. “I wanted to exit before the network started signaling us to leave. I wanted to say goodbye on my own terms.”

Throughout her long career, Burnett has brought joy and laughter to countless fans, and now, that laughter feels especially vital.

As the election season comes to a close, Burnett remains committed to steering clear of politics.

“I keep my distance from it,” she shared. “It may sound cliché, but I genuinely want people to find happiness again, to love and embrace joy, and I see that as a possibility.”

Adding to her list of cherished concepts is “hope.”

“I’m frightened by the current state of the world,” she admitted. “But despite that fear, I still have hope.”
