YouTube has started rolling out a new artificial intelligence (AI)-based age verification system in the United States aimed at better distinguishing between adult users and minors. This initiative leverages AI to analyze users’ video viewing patterns to verify their age, enhancing protections for younger audiences on the platform.

YouTube’s new age verification system is currently being tested on a small subset of its U.S. users who are logged into their accounts. If the AI flags a user as under 18, YouTube applies existing safety features and restrictions designed to shield younger viewers from inappropriate content.
