Taylor Swift Reclaims Her Entire Music Catalog in Landmark Deal

“Finally Mine”: Taylor Swift Now Owns All of Her Music

Taylor Swift Finally Owns Her Entire Music Catalog: “Decades of Dreams Come True”

After a years-long battle over the rights to her own music, Taylor Swift has finally taken full ownership of her entire catalog — a milestone she called her “greatest dream come true.”

In a heartfelt letter shared on her website Friday, Swift revealed that she now owns all of the music she’s ever made, including albums, music videos, concert films, album art, photos, and even unreleased songs.

“All of the music I’ve ever made… now belongs… to me,” she wrote. “To say this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it.”

Buying It All Back—On Her Terms

The superstar explained she purchased her masters outright from Shamrock Capital, the private equity firm that acquired her original recordings. Crucially, she emphasized the deal came with “no strings attached, no partnership, full autonomy.” It’s a sharp contrast to the drama that unfolded in 2019 when Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings acquired her first six albums, sparking public outrage from Swift and her fans.

Swift praised Shamrock for their integrity in the deal:

“This was a business deal to them but I really felt like they saw it for what it was to me: my memories and my sweat and my handwriting and my decades of dreams.”

A Full Circle Moment, Fueled by the Fans

Swift credited her ability to reclaim her work to the record-shattering success of the Eras Tour, saying it gave her the power to negotiate from a place of strength.

“I can’t thank you enough for helping to reunite me with this art that I have dedicated my life to, but have never owned until now.”

The purchase marks the end of a saga that began when Swift was blindsided by the sale of her masters to Braun. Her response? A bold commitment to re-record her first six albums and release them as “Taylor’s Version.”

What’s Next for ‘Taylor’s Version’ Albums?

Swift’s re-recorded albums — Fearless, Red, Speak Now, and 1989 — have all topped the Billboard charts, with 1989 (Taylor’s Version) becoming her 13th No. 1 album. Vault tracks included in each re-release, like “Is It Over Now?” from 1989, have also found massive success, even reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

But what about Reputation and her debut album Taylor Swift?

Swift shared an update in her announcement:

  • She hasn’t finished re-recording Reputation because it’s so emotionally tied to a specific period in her life.
  • However, her debut album is fully re-recorded and ready — though she’s waiting for the right time to release it.

“Maybe one day those two albums can still have their moments to re-emerge when the time is right… It will just be a celebration now.”

She also hinted she might release vault tracks from Reputation if fans are into the idea.

A Movement Bigger Than Music

Swift’s journey has sparked an important industry-wide conversation about artist rights and music ownership, something she directly addressed in her letter:

“Every time a new artist tells me they negotiated to own their master recording… I’m reminded of how important it was for all of this to happen.”

She ended the message with a note of deep gratitude to her fans, whose unwavering support turned her fight for ownership into a global movement.

“Thanks to you and your goodwill, teamwork, and encouragement, the best things that have ever been mine… finally actually are.”
