Fifth Suspect Arrested in Cincinnati Viral Assault as Victim Speaks Out About Long-Term Recovery

Writing Time: August 5, 2025, 16:00 EDT

A fifth suspect has been arrested in connection with the brutal assault that occurred in downtown Cincinnati on July 26, an incident that drew widespread attention after graphic footage went viral on social media. Meanwhile, one of the victims continues to recover and has shared her experience with the public.

Authorities have charged 38-year-old Patrick Rosemond with two counts of felonious assault and aggravated riot. Rosemond was apprehended in Fulton County, Georgia, through a joint effort by the FBI and the Atlanta Metropolitan Major Offender’s Task Force. He is currently undergoing extradition proceedings and will be transferred to Cincinnati, Ohio, to face charges, according to the Cincinnati Police Department.

Violent Incident Caught on Camera

The attack occurred near the intersection of Elm and Fourth Streets in downtown Cincinnati. Disturbing footage, which rapidly spread across various social media platforms, shows two individuals being assaulted by a large group. One of the victims — later identified as a woman named Holly — was seen being repeatedly punched and kicked, ultimately losing consciousness during the attack.

The viral video sparked public outrage, prompting increased pressure on law enforcement to identify and apprehend those responsible.

List of Suspects in Custody

Prior to Rosemond’s arrest, four other individuals had already been taken into custody in connection with the assault:

  • Dominique Kittle
  • Jermaine Matthews (who has since posted bond)
  • Montianez Merriweather
  • Dekyra Vernon

Each of the suspects faces serious charges including felonious assault and aggravated riot, under Ohio criminal statutes. The investigation remains ongoing, and more charges could be filed depending on the outcomes of further inquiries and evidence reviews.

Victim Provides Update on Condition and Recovery

Holly, one of the individuals brutally attacked during the incident, has released a personal video update describing her physical and emotional trauma. In a video posted by conservative commentator Benny Johnson, Holly thanked supporters for their encouragement and financial assistance.

“It’s been very, very hard, and I’m still recovering,” she said. “I still have very bad brain trauma.”

Holly also shared that while the external wounds from the beating are healing, she continues to suffer from internal injuries and neurological complications, requiring ongoing care from specialists.

“Internally there is a lot of damage that has been done. I’ve been in and out of hospitals and specialists, and it’s going to be an ongoing battle for a very long time,” she explained.

She also expressed deep gratitude to those who donated to her online fundraiser, which is helping her access critical medical care and maintain housing while she remains unable to work.

“Thank you for helping me get the medical attention I need and making sure I’m not homeless because I can’t work until I get better. Each day, I’m feeling a little bit better and better.”

Public Outcry and Police Response

In the aftermath of the incident, Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge addressed concerns over the delayed law enforcement response. Despite dozens of bystanders present during the attack — estimated at around 100 people — only one individual called 911, Chief Theetge revealed.

“Trust me when I say this: Had the Cincinnati Police Department been notified in real time, our officers would have responded with urgency and force to protect life,” said Theetge.

The statement reflects growing concern about bystander intervention, or lack thereof, in violent public incidents. The police chief emphasized the importance of immediate public cooperation when witnessing serious crimes, especially in crowded urban settings.

Legal Process and Next Steps

As of this writing, Rosemond remains in Georgia awaiting extradition to Ohio, where he will join the other defendants in facing serious criminal charges related to the July 26 assault.

Prosecutors are expected to present evidence from the viral video footage, witness accounts, and forensic reports during upcoming court proceedings. Legal experts anticipate that the case will bring increased scrutiny to issues surrounding group violence, social media amplification of crimes, and public responsibility in reporting emergencies.

Community Reaction and Broader Implications

The incident has sparked conversations both locally and nationally about urban safety, public accountability, and the psychological impact of viral violence. Public figures, legal advocates, and mental health professionals have expressed concern over the normalization of violence in digital spaces.

The Cincinnati Police Department continues to urge anyone with additional information or unreported footage of the incident to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers or directly to the police department.

Conclusion

The arrest of the fifth suspect marks a significant development in a case that has gripped public attention due to its violent nature and viral spread. As legal proceedings move forward, victims like Holly are focusing on healing, while community leaders work to address broader issues of public safety and bystander intervention.
