World Leaders Mourn the Passing of Former US President Jimmy Carter, A Beacon of Peace and Humanity

World leaders from across the globe have expressed heartfelt condolences following the passing of former US President Jimmy Carter, who died on Sunday at the age of 100. Carter, the 39th President of the United States, leaves behind a legacy of historic achievements in diplomacy, humanitarian efforts, and the unwavering pursuit of peace.

A Legacy of Diplomatic Milestones

Jimmy Carter’s presidency (1977–1981) was marked by transformative foreign policy initiatives. Among his enduring accomplishments were the Camp David Accords, which brokered peace between Israel and Egypt, the normalization of US-China relations, and the Torrijos-Carter Treaties, which transferred control of the Panama Canal back to Panama. These efforts established Carter as a leader committed to fostering international cooperation and stability.

In recognition of his contributions to peace and human rights, Carter received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. The Nobel Committee lauded his “decades of untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development.”

However, his presidency also faced challenges, most notably the 1979 Iran hostage crisis, where 52 Americans were held captive for 444 days in Tehran. Despite the criticism surrounding his handling of the crisis, Carter’s dedication to peaceful resolutions and his humanitarian vision defined his legacy.

Global Tributes to a Humanitarian Icon

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi

“In this moment of sorrow, I extend my sincerest condolences to the family of former President Jimmy Carter and the American people. His efforts to preserve the peace agreement between Egypt and Israel will remain etched in history. His legacy of love, peace, and brotherhood will inspire future generations.”

Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino

“President Carter’s leadership during complex times enabled the negotiation of the Torrijos-Carter Treaties, restoring Panama’s sovereignty over the canal. His contributions will be forever remembered. May his soul rest in peace.”

UN Secretary-General António Guterres

“President Carter’s leadership significantly advanced international peace and security, including the Camp David Accords and the Panama Canal Treaties. His post-presidency work in conflict mediation, democracy promotion, and disease eradication earned him the Nobel Peace Prize and deep respect worldwide. His legacy will endure as a beacon of hope and humanity.”

French President Emmanuel Macron

“Jimmy Carter tirelessly championed the rights of the most vulnerable and fought for peace. France sends its heartfelt thoughts to his family and to the American people.”

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer

“President Carter’s historic Camp David Accords and lifelong dedication to peace are unparalleled. His post-presidency work in social justice and humanitarian efforts redefined public service. My thoughts are with his family and friends.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky

“Jimmy Carter’s unwavering commitment to democratic values and peace inspired us all. His legacy as a defender of human rights and an advocate for freedom remains a guiding light. May his memory be eternal.”
