Updated – February 23, 2026 – Newly released dashcam footage shows former wrestling executive Vince McMahon driving at speeds exceeding 100 mph before colliding with another vehicle on a Connecticut highway last July. Authorities said no serious injuries were reported, and McMahon later entered a pretrial diversion program related to the charges.

WESTPORT, Connecticut (Journos News) – Newly released police footage has shed light on a high-speed crash involving former World Wrestling Entertainment executive chairman Vince McMahon, who was recorded driving at speeds of up to 115 miles per hour before striking another vehicle on a Connecticut highway.

The incident occurred on the morning of July 24, 2025, along Route 15 near Exit 15 in Westport, roughly 30 miles southwest of New Haven. According to dashcam video released by authorities, McMahon’s Bentley Continental GT Speed weaved through traffic before rear-ending a BMW and colliding with a guardrail.

Police said the 80-year-old was traveling northbound when a Connecticut State Trooper attempted to catch up to him after observing the high rate of speed. The trooper can be heard on the recording telling McMahon that he had nearly reached 115 mph.

Dashcam footage details

The video shows McMahon’s Bentley continuing briefly after the impact, smoke visible from the front of the vehicle before it eventually pulled over. Airbags had deployed inside the car when the trooper approached.

When asked why he was driving at such speed, McMahon said he was on his way to visit his granddaughter for her birthday. He told the trooper he was not attempting to evade law enforcement and added that he had not driven the car in some time, describing the sports vehicle as “too fast.”

At one point, McMahon appeared to admonish himself, using profanity while handing over his insurance and registration documents. After exiting the vehicle, he asked officers whether anyone had been injured. Police informed him that no serious injuries had been reported.

The driver of the BMW, identified by authorities as Barbara Doran, later wrote in a social media post that she felt fortunate to have survived the crash. She said her vehicle was struck from behind at high speed, causing her to lose control and veer off the roadway before regaining stability.

Charges and court outcome

McMahon was charged with reckless driving and following too closely resulting in an accident, according to state authorities. He declined medical attention at the scene.

In October, a judge ruled that McMahon could participate in a pretrial diversion program. Under the terms outlined in court, he was required to make a $1,000 charitable contribution and ensure that he drives only while properly licensed and insured. If the program is completed successfully, the charges will be dismissed after one year.

Mark Sherman, McMahon’s attorney, told media outlets at the time that the outcome was appropriate. “Not every car accident is a crime,” Sherman said, adding that they were grateful for the court’s decision.

Context and background

McMahon, long associated with the rise of modern professional wrestling through World Wrestling Entertainment, stepped away from his executive role in recent years amid broader corporate changes within the company. The July crash drew renewed attention because of his public profile and the severity of the reported speeds involved.

Traffic safety advocates note that speeds above 100 mph significantly increase both stopping distance and the risk of fatal injury, particularly on parkway-style highways such as Connecticut’s Route 15, also known as the Merritt Parkway. The roadway is known for its narrow lanes and limited shoulders compared with interstate highways.

No fatalities were reported in the incident. Authorities have not indicated that alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.

The release of the dashcam footage offers a clearer timeline of events, showing the moments leading up to the collision and the immediate aftermath. While the legal matter remains subject to the terms of the diversion program, the video underscores the potential consequences of excessive speed on public roads.

Former WWE CEO Vince McMahon Reaches Settlement with SEC Over Undisclosed Agreements

Key Highlights:

Charges by the SEC: Former WWE CEO Vince McMahon faced charges from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for failing to disclose two settlement agreements worth $10.5 million. These agreements were intended to prevent two women from revealing potential claims against McMahon and WWE.

Timeline of Allegations:

2019 Agreement: McMahon paid a former employee $3 million in exchange for her agreement not to disclose their relationship or file claims against WWE or himself.

2022 Agreement: A former independent contractor was paid $7.5 million under similar terms.

Internal Financial Misstatements: McMahon’s nondisclosure of these agreements circumvented WWE’s internal accounting controls. This caused material misstatements in WWE’s financial reports, overstating the company’s 2018 net income by 8% and its 2021 net income by 1.7%. WWE subsequently restated its financials in August 2022.

McMahon’s Resignations and Investigations:

McMahon first stepped down as WWE CEO in 2022 amid investigations into allegations mirroring those in a federal lawsuit.

In January 2024, he resigned from TKO Group Holdings (WWE’s parent company) after a former employee filed a lawsuit accusing him of sexual misconduct.

McMahon has consistently denied the allegations but faced mounting scrutiny.

SEC Settlement:

McMahon agreed to:

Civil Penalty: Pay $400,000.

Reimbursement: Repay WWE approximately $1.3 million.

Cease-and-Desist Order: Comply with SEC rules prohibiting such violations.

Without admitting or denying the SEC’s findings, McMahon labeled the issues as “minor accounting errors” in a prepared statement. “Today ends nearly three years of investigation… I’m thrilled that I can now put all this behind me,” he said.

Legal Developments:

Civil Case: Ann Callis, attorney for Janel Grant (a former WWE employee accusing McMahon of sexual battery and trafficking), stated the SEC charges confirm McMahon’s unlawful behavior. Callis argued that McMahon coerced Grant into signing a non-disclosure agreement, violating the law.

Criminal Investigation: Prosecutors in the Southern District of New York are continuing their investigation but declined to comment.

McMahon’s Legacy at WWE:

McMahon transformed WWE from a regional operation into a global entertainment giant. After acquiring the World Wrestling Federation in 1982, he elevated wrestling to mainstream popularity, securing professional sports stadiums and launching successful programs like “Raw”.

WWE’s latest milestone includes the debut of “Raw” on Netflix, which garnered 4.9 million views globally and reached 2.6 million U.S. households, according to VideoAmp.

Trump Expected to Appoint Linda McMahon as Education Secretary

President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly set to nominate Linda McMahon as his Secretary of Education in the upcoming Cabinet. McMahon, co-founder of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) alongside her husband, Vince McMahon, is well-known for her previous role as the Administrator of the Small Business Administration during Trump’s first term.

Two sources confirmed the selection to Fox News on Tuesday evening. McMahon, who served in the Small Business Administration from 2017 to 2019, stepped down after two years, stating that the role had been “immensely rewarding.” She expressed her gratitude for the opportunity, noting that it was “an honor of a lifetime” to serve, and she planned to return to the private sector. Despite her departure, McMahon remained a strong supporter of President Trump and his policies.

Linda McMahon is married to Vince McMahon, a central figure in the creation and success of WWE in 1980. While her professional background is largely rooted in business, her potential appointment to the Department of Education signals a significant shift, especially given Trump’s previous comments about potentially disbanding the agency.

The Department of Education was established in 1980 with the mission to promote student achievement and global competitiveness through fostering educational excellence and ensuring equal access for all students. However, Trump has suggested in the past that the department may not be necessary, and former Education Secretary Betsy DeVos recently expressed similar sentiments.

DeVos, in an interview with Fox News, stated that the Department of Education “doesn’t really add any value” and suggested that the department’s resources should be redirected to local levels. She recommended block-granting funds to allow more localized decision-making, emphasizing that the department has failed for decades to close educational achievement gaps and has, in fact, widened them.

With McMahon’s potential nomination, it appears that Trump may pursue a more decentralized approach to education, further supporting DeVos’ call for reducing the federal government’s role in education policy.
