MIAMI, UNITED STATES — A pilot repeatedly warned that an Amazon-contracted Boeing 767 was approaching too fast before the aircraft overran a Miami airport runway, according to preliminary cockpit and flight-data information released by the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board.

The 21 Air-operated cargo flight crashed at Miami International Airport on Sept. 6 after overrunning Runway 30 during landing. Five people on the ground were killed and five others were injured. Both pilots survived.

The NTSB said Wednesday that one pilot cautioned the aircraft was too fast about 1 minute and 42 seconds before the end of the cockpit voice recording. The pilot continued making comments about excessive speed during the remainder of the recording, but investigators said there was no consistent verbal response from the other pilot.

The board stressed that the information remains preliminary and can change as the investigation continues.

Crew continued approach despite warnings

The cockpit recording shows a series of automated warnings as the aircraft descended toward the runway.

About 1 minute and 4 seconds before the end of the recording, the aircraft generated a “sink rate” warning. Another followed several seconds later. The aircraft then generated repeated “too low terrain” alerts as it continued its descent.

A pilot called for the flaps to be extended to 30 degrees about 41 seconds before the end of the recording. The aircraft touched down approximately 10 seconds later.

The flight-data recorder showed the nose and right main landing gear touched down at a groundspeed of 158 knots, or about 182 mph. The left main landing gear touched down shortly afterward at 134 knots.

The aircraft was therefore already moving rapidly when it entered the runway landing sequence.

Go-around attempt came after touchdown

About 15 seconds before the end of the cockpit recording, a pilot called for a go-around.

Flight-data recorder information indicates that the aircraft’s brakes were released and its throttles were increased to a level consistent with go-around thrust when its groundspeed was about 120 knots. Four seconds later, however, the throttles were reduced to idle power and the brakes were reapplied.

The aircraft subsequently left the paved runway.

The NTSB said there was no indication in the recorded data that either the aircraft’s speed brakes or thrust reversers were deployed before the recording ended. The final recorded groundspeed was 65 knots.

The aircraft traveled roughly 1,300 feet beyond the runway before coming to rest after striking vehicles on the ground. Five people were killed in the crash, while five others were injured.

Investigation remains open

The NTSB has not determined a probable cause.

Investigators are examining the aircraft’s performance, weather conditions, crew actions and coordination, and the circumstances surrounding the late go-around attempt. The board has also said it will examine the pilots’ experience and training as part of the investigation.

The accident occurred during unsettled weather at Miami International Airport. Investigators are examining whether wind conditions and the aircraft’s approach contributed to the unstable landing.

The aircraft was a Boeing 767-33A operated by 21 Air on behalf of Amazon Air as Flight 7598. It was flying from San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Miami when the accident occurred.

The NTSB recovered both the cockpit voice recorder and flight-data recorder. The cockpit recorder contained more than two hours of audio, while the flight-data recorder contained about 54 hours of information and more than 400 recorded parameters.

Investigators are expected to conduct additional analysis before drawing conclusions about why the crew continued the approach despite the speed warnings and other alerts.

The full cockpit transcript has not yet been released.

For now, the NTSB’s preliminary evidence establishes the sequence of warnings, the high-speed touchdown and the late attempt to go around, but it does not establish why the crew made those decisions or assign responsibility for the crash.

Reporting Credit: National Transportation Safety Board — preliminary cockpit voice recorder and flight-data recorder findings, accident sequence and investigation status.

MIAMI, Florida – Attorneys for social media influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate are scheduled to meet with federal prosecutors in Miami on Monday to establish a timetable for what is expected to be a lengthy legal battle over the brothers’ extradition to the United Kingdom, where they face allegations including rape and human trafficking.

The status conference is expected to address procedural matters, including scheduling a bond hearing, setting deadlines for court filings and establishing a date for a formal extradition hearing. The Tate brothers are not required to attend, and their attorneys said they do not plan to appear. Both remain in federal custody following their July 18 arrest.

The proceedings mark the latest phase of a legal dispute spanning multiple jurisdictions, including the United Kingdom, Romania and the United States.

Defense Challenges Extradition Request

Following the brothers’ initial court appearance last week, defense attorney Joseph McBride said they would oppose Britain’s extradition request.

“We are of course objecting to extradition because Andrew and Tristan are innocent,” McBride said. “They’ve never done nothing wrong. They shouldn’t be extradited for crimes they did not commit.”

McBride also argued that the extradition request was politically motivated and suggested it was connected to former British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s decision to step down. He did not provide evidence to support that claim.

U.K. Prosecutors Outline New Allegations

British prosecutors said the latest case is based on allegations from four new accusers after receiving evidence from police in Bedfordshire, England.

According to prosecutors, the alleged offenses occurred between 2010 and 2017 and include rape, assault, human trafficking, offenses involving indecent images of a child, and extreme pornography.

McBride said the identities of the new accusers have not been made public.

The brothers also face separate criminal charges in the United Kingdom involving three other accusers. Those allegations, dating from 2012 to 2015, include rape, causing bodily harm, human trafficking and controlling prostitution for gain.

Andrew and Tristan Tate have denied all allegations against them.

White House Says It Will Not Intervene

The Tate brothers, who hold dual U.S. and U.K. citizenship, have built large online followings by promoting content centered on wealth, male dominance and misogynistic views. They have also publicly expressed support for President Donald Trump.

Last week, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt rejected suggestions that Trump would intervene in the extradition proceedings.

“No, we’ve already answered that question,” Leavitt said when asked whether the administration would become involved.

International Legal Proceedings Continue

The extradition case follows years of legal scrutiny involving multiple countries.

The brothers moved to Romania in 2016 and were arrested there in 2022 on accusations of recruiting women for sexual exploitation. They denied those allegations, and the Romanian criminal case has not proceeded because of legal and procedural issues.

After travel restrictions were lifted last year, the brothers traveled to Florida.

Andrew Tate, 39, first gained public attention as a contestant on the U.K. reality television program Big Brother before being removed after a video appeared to show him assaulting a woman.

He has since amassed more than 10 million followers on X but has been banned from YouTube, TikTok and Instagram for violating platform policies related to hate speech. He has also drawn widespread criticism for comments about women and sexual assault, which he has said were taken out of context or intended as jokes.

Monday’s hearing is expected to establish the procedural schedule that will guide the extradition proceedings in the months ahead.

This report is based on reporting by The Associated Press.

MIAMI GARDENS, Florida – A late strike from Maxi Araújo earned Uruguay a 1-1 draw against Saudi Arabia in their opening World Cup Group H match on Monday in Miami Gardens, Florida.

Saudi Arabia had taken a first-half lead through Abdulelah Al-Amri, but Uruguay responded in the second half and rescued a point after sustained pressure in a match that remained finely balanced until the closing stages.

The result also came amid a tightly contested Group H, where all teams finished the opening round with one point after draws across the group.

Saudi Arabia Strike First After Defensive Breakthrough

Saudi Arabia took the lead in the 41st minute when Abdulelah Al-Amri finished from close range following a rebound inside the box. The goal came after Uruguayan goalkeeper Fernando Muslera initially denied an earlier effort but could not prevent the follow-up.

Abdulelah Al-Amri reacted quickly to convert the chance, giving his side a surprise advantage against the two-time world champions.

Muslera’s involvement carried historical weight, as the 39-year-old became the oldest player to represent Uruguay in a World Cup match, surpassing Diego Godín’s previous record from Qatar 2022.

Uruguay Pressure Builds Before Late Equaliser

Uruguay dominated large portions of the second half under coach Marcelo Bielsa, pushing Saudi Arabia deep into their own half but struggling to convert chances.

Saudi goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais produced several key interventions, including a close-range save from Federico Viñas and a stop against Manuel Ugarte in the 61st minute.

Uruguay’s persistence finally paid off in the 80th minute when Maxi Araújo reacted quickest to a rebound after a header was saved by Al-Owais, tapping in from close range to level the match.

Maxi Araújo ensured Uruguay avoided defeat in a match where they had significantly more attacking output.

Valverde Reflects on Missed Opportunities

Uruguay midfielder Federico Valverde acknowledged the pressure of the opening match and the team’s inability to fully capitalize on their dominance.

“The nerves of the debut worked against us,” said Federico Valverde. “As captain, I’m very happy with my teammates’ performance… the fans’ support gave us a lot of energy… we’re going to keep fighting.”

Valverde also noted Uruguay’s control of possession and chances, despite failing to secure all three points.

Bielsa Admits Uruguay Needed More

Coach Marcelo Bielsa was direct in his assessment after the final whistle, pointing to missed opportunities and early lapses.

“We couldn’t overcome our opponent, and we conceded minutes in the first half that don’t indicate we played well,” Bielsa said. “We had to win this match.”

Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, showed defensive resilience throughout, with Al-Owais playing a central role in maintaining their first-half advantage.

Group H Tightens After Opening Round

The draw contributed to an unusual start in Group H, where all four teams finished level on one point after opening matches.

Spain were held to a 0-0 draw by debutants Cape Verde in Atlanta, completing a balanced opening round across the group.

The situation leaves qualification wide open heading into the next set of fixtures.

Context: A Meeting of World Cup History

The match also carried symbolic significance, featuring a meeting between nations representing different eras of World Cup history. Uruguay, champions of the inaugural 1930 tournament, continue preparations for the tournament’s centenary celebrations in 2030.

Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, are set to host the World Cup in 2034, adding another layer of long-term narrative to the encounter.

Among the attendees were FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Miami Heat player Bam Adebayo, former NFL player Chad Ochocinco, and Uruguay legend Luis Suárez.

Conclusion: Everything Still to Play For in Group H

Both sides now turn their attention to their next Group H fixtures, with qualification still wide open after a fully balanced opening round.
