Swedish entrepreneur and early backer of file-sharing website The Pirate Bay, Carl Lundström, died in a plane crash in the Slovenian mountains on Monday. Slovenian media reported that a propeller plane crashed into a cabin on Velika Planina mountain, splitting the structure in two. Bad weather conditions and the remote location delayed rescue efforts. Lundström’s Role in The Pirate Bay

Lundström was a crucial financial supporter of The Pirate Bay in its early days. From 2003 to 2005, his company, Rix Telecom, provided essential services and equipment to the controversial file-sharing platform.

In 2009, he was one of four defendants charged with being an “accessory to breaching copyright law” when The Pirate Bay was put on trial for facilitating copyright infringement.
