Israel Vows Retaliation as Iranian Strikes Injure Hundreds and Hit Major Hospital

Tensions between Israel and Iran have erupted into one of the most dangerous confrontations in years, with Iranian missile strikes injuring at least 240 people across Israel and prompting a fierce Israeli response that now includes direct threats to Iran’s Supreme Leader.

Iranian Missiles Hit Hospital and Tel Aviv Homes

On Thursday, Iran launched a wave of missile attacks across Israel. One of the most alarming strikes hit Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba, Israel’s main hospital in the south. The surgical ward was heavily damaged, and hospital officials said it was only thanks to earlier evacuations that mass casualties were avoided. Dozens were still injured.

In Tel Aviv, residential buildings were struck, adding to the casualty toll and rattling civilian neighborhoods far from the front lines.

Israeli Defense Minister: “Khamenei Must Not Continue to Exist”

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz placed direct blame on Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, calling for his elimination: “In order to achieve all of our goals, this man absolutely should not continue to exist.”

Israeli forces responded with a major strike on Iran’s Arak heavy water nuclear reactor. The IAEA confirmed the facility was not active and posed no radiation threat. However, Israel released footage of the bombing, making clear it intends to severely degrade Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

Trump to Decide on U.S. Military Involvement

The White House announced that President Donald Trump will decide within two weeks whether to join Israel’s military campaign. While Trump says he still hopes for a diplomatic solution, press secretary Karoline Leavitt quoted him as saying, “There’s a substantial chance of negotiations, but I’ll make my decision within the next two weeks.”

Massive Human Toll in Gaza, Iran, and Israel

Gaza: In just the last 24 hours, 69 Palestinians were killed and 221 more injured amid continued Israeli airstrikes. Since October 2023, Gaza’s health ministry says over 55,000 have been killed and more than 130,000 injured.

Iran: Israeli strikes have killed at least 639 people across Iran, according to Human Rights Activists, a U.S.-based rights group. Iran’s last official update reported 224 deaths.

Israel: Beyond the 240 injuries from Iran’s latest barrage, multiple areas sustained damage, including hospitals, residential buildings, and key infrastructure.

Regional and Global Fallout

Air Travel Disrupted: U.S. airlines including United, American, and Delta have suspended flights to the Middle East. Ben Gurion Airport remains closed.

Evacuations Underway: Canada, Japan, China, and others are arranging for citizens to leave Israel and Iran. Cyprus has become a key transit hub.

Diplomatic Backlash: Iran summoned Germany’s envoy for supporting Israeli strikes. The country has also asked the U.N. Security Council to condemn Israel’s attacks.

Warnings from Russia, China, and Religious Leaders: Russia and China condemned Israel’s strikes and warned the U.S. not to escalate. Iraq’s Grand Ayatollah al-Sistani called a potential strike on Iran’s top leadership a “criminal act” that could unleash regional chaos.

Nuclear Tensions Rising

Israel claims to have destroyed two-thirds of Iran’s ballistic missile launchers and struck multiple nuclear-related sites. The Arak reactor strike aimed to halt any future plutonium production. Iran continues to enrich uranium at levels just short of weapons-grade.

Meanwhile, Iran’s blackout — the most severe since 2019 — has cut off internet access nationwide for over 24 hours.

International Diplomacy in Overdrive

Diplomatic talks are intensifying:

Iran’s foreign minister is meeting European officials in Geneva.

Egypt is pushing for a de-escalation dialogue.

Italy and the U.S. have reaffirmed that “Iran must not have the atomic bomb.”

The U.N. secretary-general is urging all sides to “return to diplomacy and stop the killing.”

Hezbollah and Militias Threaten U.S. Interests

Iraqi militia Harakat al-Nujaba warned it would target U.S. citizens if Khamenei is harmed. Hezbollah has praised Iran’s attacks but hasn’t confirmed whether it will join the fighting.

Final Word: A Region on the Edge

With missiles flying, leaders issuing ultimatums, and hospitals under fire, the Middle East is closer to the brink than it’s been in years. Whether Trump joins the war or finds a diplomatic offramp could determine whether this crisis becomes a full-blown regional conflict.

Zelensky Slams US ‘Silence’ as Russia Launches Record-Breaking Air Assault on Ukraine

Russia unleashed its most massive aerial attack since the war began, bombarding Kyiv and multiple regions across Ukraine with missiles and drones overnight — marking the second consecutive night of heavy bombardment. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky didn’t hold back, sharply criticizing the United States for what he called a damaging “silence” amid the escalating attacks.

Deadly Strikes and Heartbreaking Losses

At least 12 people lost their lives in the recent missile and drone strikes, including three children from the same family in Ukraine’s Zhytomyr region, west of Kyiv. Ukraine’s Internal Affairs Minister Ihor Klymenko reported that the parents were hospitalized, with the mother still in critical condition. The children’s school expressed deep sorrow on Facebook, saying, “We are in pain. The whole school family… We bow our heads in sorrow.”

The attacks damaged civilian buildings in several districts of Kyiv and other cities, forcing residents to endure long hours in shelters under the continuous drone and missile onslaught.

A War That Shows No Signs of Letting Up

Ukraine’s Air Force revealed the staggering scale of the assault — 367 aerial weapons were launched overnight, including 69 missiles and nearly 300 drones targeting 22 locations. Ukrainian defenses managed to intercept most of these, shooting down 47 missiles and 266 drones.

Just last weekend, Russia set a previous record by launching 273 drones in a single night, underscoring how the Kremlin continues to ramp up its aerial campaign as diplomatic efforts falter.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha described Sunday as “a difficult morning after a sleepless night,” highlighting the relentless pressure Ukrainian civilians and forces face.

Zelensky’s Call to Action: Don’t Look Away

President Zelensky took to Telegram to call out the global community, especially the US, for what he sees as a dangerous lack of response. “The world may go on vacation, but the war continues, despite weekends and weekdays. This cannot be ignored. America’s silence, and the silence of others in the world, only encourages Putin,” he said.

He urged stronger sanctions, condemning Russia’s attacks as terrorist acts that prolong the war and cost innocent lives every day.

Mixed Messages from the US

US President Donald Trump expressed frustration with Putin’s actions, saying, “We’re in the middle of talking, and he’s shooting rockets into Kyiv and other cities.” Trump acknowledged a personal connection with Putin but criticized the escalation, saying, “He’s killing a lot of people… I don’t like it at all.”

At the same time, Trump’s Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, condemned the attacks as a blatant violation of international protocols meant to protect civilians.

A Glimmer of Hope Amid the Violence: Prisoner Swap

In a rare moment of cooperation, over 600 Russian and Ukrainian prisoners were exchanged on Sunday, concluding a larger 1,000-for-1,000 prisoner swap agreed upon during talks in Istanbul last week. Videos shared by Ukrainian officials showed released Ukrainian soldiers, many with shaved heads and draped in national flags, joyfully reconnecting with loved ones.

Zelensky thanked the team behind the exchange, calling it a success. Yet, despite this humanitarian step, the violence shows no sign of easing.

Diplomatic Talks Face Harsh Reality

The Istanbul meeting came after European allies pressed Moscow with an ultimatum demanding a ceasefire or sanctions. Many observers viewed Putin’s proposal for talks as a tactic to delay and distract from the mounting pressure.

Since the talks, Russia has only intensified its bombardment. Zelensky warned that without stronger pressure from the US and Europe, the brutal attacks would continue unchecked.

Russia Reports Ukrainian Drone Attacks in Return

Meanwhile, Russia claimed to have intercepted or destroyed about 100 Ukrainian drones over its own territory, mainly in central and southern regions, including near Moscow. Reports from Russian officials noted injuries in some areas from these attacks.

What’s Next?

With the war dragging into its third year, the latest massive Russian aerial assault starkly highlights the ongoing human cost and geopolitical deadlock. As Kyiv calls for stronger international action and fresh sanctions, the world watches closely — the silence or response of global powers may shape the conflict’s next chapter.

UK, France, and Canada Threaten Sanctions Over Israel’s Renewed Gaza Offensive

International outrage grows as humanitarian crisis worsens in Gaza

As Israel pushes forward with a new ground offensive in Gaza, the leaders of the United Kingdom, France, and Canada are warning of possible sanctions if the military campaign continues and humanitarian aid remains blocked.

In a joint statement Monday, the three countries demanded that Israel halt its latest military operation and allow full access for humanitarian relief. If not, they say “concrete actions,” including targeted sanctions, will follow.

Ground Offensive Escalates After Failed Ceasefire Talks

The Israeli military launched its renewed campaign, dubbed “Gideon’s Chariots,” just as former U.S. President Donald Trump left the region without securing a ceasefire or hostage release deal. Israeli troops have since advanced into both northern and southern parts of the Gaza Strip following days of heavy airstrikes.

On Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel intends to “take control of the entire Gaza Strip.” The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) say the goal is to defeat Hamas and free the remaining Israeli hostages.

But the toll has been staggering.

More than 400 Palestinians have been killed and over 1,000 injured since last Thursday, according to Gaza health officials.

Entire families have been wiped out in overnight strikes, including 49 people killed just between Monday and Tuesday.

The last hospital in northern Gaza has reportedly shut down amid the onslaught.

Since the war began in October 2023, over 53,000 people have died in Gaza, the majority of them women and children.

Gaza Becomes a War Zone

About 71% of Gaza’s territory is now designated a militarized zone or under evacuation orders, leaving much of the population without safe shelter. Nearly half a million people are now facing starvation, according to food security projections.

Israel’s partial lifting of its blockade on food aid has done little to ease concerns. On Monday, just five aid trucks were allowed through the Kerem Shalom crossing—a mere fraction of the 500 trucks needed daily, according to Gaza officials.

UN aid chief Tom Fletcher called the effort a “drop in the ocean,” warning that famine is imminent without immediate action.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot echoed that sentiment, calling Israel’s easing of aid access “totally insufficient.”

Allies Grow Impatient

Pressure is now coming from Israel’s closest allies.

Netanyahu admitted Monday that his government risks losing international support—even from long-time pro-Israel U.S. lawmakers—if images of starving children continue to circulate.

“We are giving you weapons and political backing,” Netanyahu quoted U.S. senators as saying, “but we cannot support mass starvation.”

The joint warning from the UK, France, and Canada was followed by another statement from 23 foreign ministers, including those from Germany, Italy, and the EU, urging Israel to immediately allow unrestricted humanitarian access.

They warned that food and medicine stocks are depleted and that Gaza’s population faces mass starvation.

Controversy Over New U.S.-Backed Aid Mechanism

Amid mounting criticism, a new organization—the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF)—is preparing to oversee aid deliveries. Backed by the U.S. and approved by Israel, the foundation aims to prevent aid from falling into Hamas’ hands.

But critics, including UN officials, say the plan would militarize humanitarian aid and potentially encourage forced displacement of civilians from northern Gaza.

UNICEF spokesperson James Elder condemned the plan as “unworkable,” saying Israel, as the occupying power, has a legal duty to ensure aid reaches civilians.

Tom Fletcher added bluntly: “We already have a plan. Let’s not waste time.”

Trump’s Role and Reactions

Former President Trump visited Gulf nations last week, including Qatar, where his team was involved in ceasefire negotiations. While he didn’t visit Israel, Trump insisted the trip was good for the region and claimed the U.S. would soon “take care of” the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

He also stirred controversy by suggesting the U.S. should “take” Gaza and turn it into a “freedom zone.”

U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff said the real problem with aid is logistical, citing dangerous conditions on the ground.

Where Do Ceasefire Talks Stand?

Negotiations have resumed in Doha, Qatar, but progress remains murky.

Hamas initially indicated it was willing to release a handful of hostages in exchange for a 60-day ceasefire and the release of Palestinian prisoners. However, within hours, another Hamas spokesperson denied that agreement, saying there would be no hostage release unless Israel commits to a full cessation of hostilities.

Israel has said it is open to ending the war—but only if Hamas surrenders, a demand that analysts say is unlikely to be accepted.

Final Thoughts

With the death toll rising, aid still limited, and diplomatic tensions running high, the situation in Gaza remains on a knife’s edge. Whether the international community’s pressure will alter Israel’s military course—or Hamas’ negotiating stance—remains uncertain.
