WASHINGTON — A rare fusion of politics, ceremony, and combat sports unfolded Sunday as Donald Trump marked his 80th birthday with an unprecedented UFC event staged on the White House South Lawn, alongside UFC president Dana White. The night featured live cage fights under the UFC Freedom 250 banner, with fighter jets overhead and a crowd of military members and dignitaries chanting “USA” as festivities began.

The event, delayed briefly by weather concerns, proceeded with multiple bouts and heavy pageantry, transforming one of the world’s most symbolic political landmarks into a combat sports venue.

Bo Nickal Headlines Early Action With TKO Victory

One of the standout early performances came from Bo Nickal, who secured a TKO win over Kyle Daukaus in the middleweight division. Nickal immediately exited the cage to speak with Trump cageside, thanking him for hosting the event and bringing UFC to the White House grounds.

Nickal’s victory added momentum to a card designed as both a sporting showcase and a symbolic celebration tied to Trump’s birthday and broader national themes referenced during the event.

Diego Lopes Delivers Knockout as Main Card Gains Momentum

Brazilian fighter Diego Lopes also made a strong statement, defeating Steve Garcia via knockout in the second round. Garcia entered the cage draped in an American flag, while Lopes walked out to the song “La Chona,” adding to the event’s heavily stylized presentation.

The bout helped energize the crowd after a relatively quiet start to the main card atmosphere, which gradually built intensity as the fights progressed.

Pageantry Defines Unusual White House Fight Night

The UFC event featured extensive ceremonial elements, including performances from the U.S. Marine Band and singer Zac Brown performing the national anthem. Military flyovers by the Blue Angels and Air Force Thunderbirds also accompanied the evening.

UFC introduced fighters as usual, with veteran announcer Bruce Buffer leading entrances in themed attire reflecting the occasion. The event was staged under the UFC Freedom 250 banner, with organizers linking it to both Trump’s birthday and the upcoming 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

Officials involved in event logistics indicated significant resources were required to construct the temporary arena on the South Lawn, according to prior filings referenced in reporting.

Strickland Incident Adds Tension Outside Venue

Outside the main event area, UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland was escorted from the Ellipse viewing zone by police officers. The circumstances surrounding his removal were not immediately clarified.

Strickland had previously stated on social media that he was not invited to participate in White House-related festivities, though UFC leadership has denied claims of any formal ban.

Event Continues With Major Title Fights Ahead

The card remains scheduled to feature several high-profile bouts, including Alex Pereira facing Ciryl Gane for an interim heavyweight title, followed by Spanish-Georgian champion Ilia Topuria taking on interim champion Justin Gaethje in the main event.

As the White House transformed into an unprecedented combat sports venue, attention now shifts to how the remaining bouts will define the historic UFC card and its broader political and cultural implications.

Carlos Ulberg captured the vacant UFC light heavyweight championship on Saturday night, stopping former champion Jiri Prochazka at 3:45 of the opening round in the main event of UFC 327 at Kaseya Center in Miami. The finish came via a sharp left hook after Ulberg had appeared compromised by an early knee injury, making the result one of the division’s most significant recent swings.

The victory gives Ulberg the undisputed belt at 205 pounds after former champion Alex Pereira vacated the title to pursue a heavyweight opportunity, creating an immediate shift in the championship hierarchy. Entering the bout on a lengthy winning streak, Ulberg converted his first title opportunity into a definitive finish that now places the rest of the contenders under pressure in the division race.

Injury Scare Turns Into Decisive Championship Moment

The dominant competitive angle of UFC 327 centered on the decisive championship moment rather than the spectacle surrounding the event.

Ulberg appeared in trouble early when his right knee buckled awkwardly while planting. Prochazka recognized the opening and repeatedly targeted the damaged leg with kicks instead of forcing a more aggressive finish. That tactical hesitation proved decisive.

With Prochazka stepping forward late in the round, Ulberg timed the exchange perfectly and landed the counter left hook that ended the fight. The finish not only handed Prochazka another setback in title bouts, but also reinforced Ulberg’s reputation as one of the division’s most dangerous counter-strikers.

Title Landscape Shifts at Light Heavyweight

The result carries immediate implications for the division’s standings.

Ulberg’s win marks the beginning of a new championship cycle at light heavyweight, a weight class that had been defined by Pereira’s recent run. Prochazka, a former belt-holder and long-time elite contender, now faces a more difficult route back into title contention after another missed championship opportunity.

With Pereira set for a heavyweight assignment and Ulberg now champion, the UFC’s 205-pound bracket is likely to revolve around fresh challengers, potential rematches, and the positioning of top-ranked contenders over the next quarter of the schedule.

Co-Main and Heavyweight Bout Add Future Card Stakes

Elsewhere on the main card, Paulo Costa stopped Azamat Murzakanov in the third round with a head kick, a result that could push Costa into relevance in the light heavyweight rankings after his move up in weight.

In the heavyweight division, Josh Hokit earned a unanimous decision over Curtis Blaydes, a result that further deepens the upper-tier contender conversation. The bout’s aftermath already generated future matchmaking momentum, with UFC officials moving quickly toward a possible Derrick Lewis matchup.

What Comes Next

Ulberg’s title win immediately opens multiple championship pathways for the UFC.

The most likely next phase centers on whether Pereira eventually returns to light heavyweight, whether Prochazka remains near the top of the queue, or whether another rising contender is elevated into a title eliminator.

For now, the key competitive takeaway is clear: the light heavyweight belt has a new champion, and the division’s next era now runs through Carlos Ulberg.

LOS ANGELES (Journos News) – The long-awaited Mayweather Pacquiao rematch is officially on. More than a decade after their record-setting 2015 showdown, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao have agreed to meet again on Sept. 19 in Las Vegas, marking one of the most high-profile returns in recent boxing history.

The bout will be staged at Sphere, the immersive arena just east of the Las Vegas Strip, and streamed live on Netflix. Organizers say it will be the first boxing event held at the venue, which opened in 2023 and has hosted major concerts and a UFC event.

The announcement revives one of the defining rivalries of modern boxing, a pairing that once commanded global attention and shattered pay-per-view revenue records.

A Rematch More Than a Decade in the Making

When Mayweather defeated Pacquiao by unanimous decision in May 2015, the contest was billed as the “Fight of the Century.” It delivered historic commercial returns but drew mixed reactions from fans who had waited years for the matchup. Many had hoped for a more aggressive exchange between two fighters widely considered the leading figures of their era.

Mayweather, who turns 49 this week, retired in 2017 with a 50-0 professional record after defeating UFC star Conor McGregor. Pacquiao, now 47, has also stepped away and returned multiple times in recent years.

In statements announcing the rematch, both fighters struck familiar tones. Mayweather pointed to his prior victory as proof of what he expects in September. Pacquiao, meanwhile, framed the second meeting as unfinished business and an opportunity to rewrite the narrative of their first encounter.

No weight class or round structure has yet been disclosed, leaving open questions about the competitive format. Given the fighters’ ages and years removed from their athletic primes, the details could shape expectations around pace and intensity.

Context of the First Fight

The 2015 bout came after years of stalled negotiations, public exchanges and shifting timelines. Both camps at times blamed the other for delays. Critics argued the fight materialized after both men had moved past their physical peaks, potentially diminishing the spectacle.

Pacquiao later disclosed he entered that contest with a shoulder injury, which required surgery soon after. He said at the time he chose not to withdraw because of the magnitude of the event. Mayweather relied on his trademark defensive style, controlling distance and tempo to secure a points victory.

Despite debate over its entertainment value, the fight remains one of the most profitable in boxing history, generating massive pay-per-view sales and gate revenue. It also underscored the commercial power of individual boxing stars in an era increasingly defined by fragmented titles and promotional disputes.

Careers Since 2015

Mayweather’s official retirement followed his 2017 win over McGregor, cementing his undefeated record. In the years since, he has participated in a series of lucrative exhibition matches against social media personalities and other non-traditional opponents, events that blurred the line between sport and spectacle.

He has also faced legal disputes involving alleged creditors over financial matters, including property and luxury goods. Mayweather has separately announced an exhibition bout against 59-year-old Mike Tyson later this year, though that event has not been finalized.

Pacquiao’s path has included both political and sporting pursuits. He ran unsuccessfully for president of the Philippines and later lost a bid for a return to the Philippine Senate. After those political setbacks, he resumed boxing competition, fighting WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios to a majority draw in a bid to become the oldest titleholder at 147 pounds.

Pacquiao is also scheduled to face Ruslan Provodnikov on April 18 as part of his ongoing comeback.

The Sphere and Streaming Strategy

Holding the rematch at Sphere signals an emphasis on presentation as much as competition. The venue’s wraparound LED interior and advanced audio technology have made it a high-profile addition to the Las Vegas entertainment landscape. A UFC event held there in 2024 reportedly required significantly higher production costs than a standard pay-per-view card.

For Netflix, the event continues an expansion into live sports programming. The streaming platform has recently secured high-profile boxing content, including Terence Crawford’s victory over Canelo Álvarez, and is set to present heavyweight champion Tyson Fury’s comeback bout in April.

The addition of the Mayweather Pacquiao rematch reinforces the strategy of pairing established global names with a distribution model aimed at broad digital reach. Unlike the pay-per-view structure that defined their first fight, streaming could widen accessibility while shifting revenue dynamics.

A Fight Framed by Legacy

Both fighters enter the rematch well beyond their competitive peaks, and the outcome is unlikely to alter their places in boxing history. Mayweather is widely regarded as one of the most technically accomplished defensive fighters of his generation. Pacquiao remains one of the sport’s most dynamic offensive champions, with titles across multiple weight divisions.

Yet the appeal of this second meeting lies as much in narrative closure as in athletic stakes. The first fight resolved years of anticipation but left lingering debate about timing and performance. A rematch, even years later, offers a renewed focal point for fans who followed their intertwined careers.

Whether it delivers the intensity some felt was missing in 2015 will depend on conditioning, format and tempo. What is certain is that the names alone still carry weight in global boxing circles.

As September approaches, the rematch stands as a reminder of an era when two singular figures dominated discussion across the sport — and of how boxing, even in a changing media landscape, continues to rely on its most recognizable stars.

LOS ANGELES (Journos News) – Floyd Mayweather says he will return to professional boxing nearly a decade after he last competed in an officially sanctioned bout, marking another unexpected chapter in one of the sport’s most lucrative careers.

The 50-0 former world champion, who turns 49 this week, confirmed he plans to re-enter the professional ranks this summer under a promotional agreement with CSI Sports/Fight Sports. The announcement follows years of exhibition appearances that kept him active but outside official competition.

Mayweather’s planned comeback revives attention around a fighter who retired in 2017 after defeating mixed martial artist Conor McGregor in Las Vegas. That bout, one of the most commercially successful events in combat sports history, capped his third declared retirement and preserved his unbeaten record.

A Return to Sanctioned Competition

Mayweather has remained visible in boxing through a string of exhibition matches staged around the world. He has faced social media personalities and crossover fighters including Logan Paul, Mikuru Asakura and John Gotti III in events designed primarily for entertainment and global streaming audiences rather than rankings or titles.

He has also announced another exhibition bout against former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, now 59, though no venue or broadcast details have been formally confirmed.

In a statement accompanying his latest announcement, Mayweather said he believes he can still “set more records in the sport of boxing,” adding that his events continue to draw major live gates and international viewership.

The comeback will mark his first sanctioned professional fight since the McGregor bout. No opponent or specific date has yet been disclosed.

Commercial Power and Legacy

Mayweather’s name has long been synonymous with boxing’s pay-per-view era. A five-division world champion, he spent more than a decade as one of the sport’s most recognizable figures. His 2015 victory over Manny Pacquiao generated what was then the highest revenue in boxing history, underscoring his drawing power.

Inside the ring, Mayweather built his reputation on defensive precision, tactical discipline and speed. Outside it, his self-styled “Money” persona — emphasizing wealth, luxury and calculated bravado — helped him transcend the sport and cultivate a global following.

Even after stepping away from official competition, he maintained a steady presence in the ring through exhibitions that capitalized on nostalgia and crossover appeal. Those events, while not counted on his professional record, reinforced his commercial value in a changing combat sports landscape increasingly shaped by influencers and hybrid promotions.

Ongoing Legal and Financial Disputes

Mayweather’s renewed push into professional boxing comes amid a series of legal disputes.

Earlier this year, he filed a lawsuit against Showtime Networks and Stephen Espinoza, the former president of Showtime Sports, alleging he is owed more than $300 million. The suit centers on financial arrangements tied to previous fights and claims the network failed to safeguard him from alleged misconduct involving his longtime financial adviser, Al Haymon. The defendants have not publicly detailed their response.

Separately, Mayweather has faced civil claims over alleged unpaid rent on a Manhattan apartment and has been involved in financial disagreements with at least two jewelers. The matters are being handled in court and remain unresolved.

While such disputes have not diminished his public profile, they form part of the broader context surrounding his return to competition.

A Familiar Rival Also Returns

Mayweather’s announcement follows the decision by Manny Pacquiao to resume his own professional career. Pacquiao, now 47, returned to the ring last year and is scheduled to face Ruslan Provodnikov in Las Vegas on April 18 in what will be the second fight of his comeback.

The parallel returns of two fighters whose rivalry defined an era underscore the sport’s enduring reliance on established names. Boxing has struggled at times to consistently produce crossover stars with comparable mainstream appeal.

For now, Mayweather’s return raises questions about how a nearly decade-long absence from sanctioned competition — albeit offset by regular exhibitions — will translate into competitive readiness. At 49, he would be entering rare territory for lighter-weight champions, where speed and reflexes traditionally define success.

Still, his record, commercial record-setting history and ability to command global attention suggest that any official comeback bout is likely to attract significant interest.

Mayweather has not indicated whether his return will involve a pursuit of titles or a series of showcase fights. What remains clear is that even after nine years away from professional boxing, his presence continues to command headlines — and potentially reshape the sport’s immediate commercial landscape.

The result reaffirmed the former champion’s standing in the division while marking a setback for Paul’s developing professional career.

The fight, staged at heavyweight despite differing experience levels, saw Anthony Joshua secure a knockout victory after six rounds. According to post-fight reports and ringside observations, the stoppage followed sustained pressure from Joshua in the later rounds, culminating in a final knockdown that Paul could not recover from before the count.

Jake Paul, who entered the bout with momentum from previous wins, was competitive early but faded as Joshua imposed his physical and technical advantages.

Late Surge Decides Outcome After Even Opening Rounds

The opening rounds reflected a cautious approach, with Paul relying on movement to disrupt Joshua’s rhythm. His lateral footwork limited clean connections from the British heavyweight, keeping the contest relatively balanced through the early exchanges.

However, the dynamic shifted midway through the fight. Joshua increased his output and began landing more consistently, targeting Paul with heavier combinations. In the fifth round, Joshua dropped Paul twice, signaling a turning point as fatigue began to affect the American fighter.

Paul managed to beat the count on both occasions, but the sustained damage carried into the sixth round. A subsequent knockdown proved decisive, with the referee ending the contest after Paul failed to rise in time.

Performance Highlights Reinforce Experience Gap

Joshua’s victory highlighted the disparity in elite-level experience between the two fighters. A former unified heavyweight champion and Olympic gold medalist, Joshua demonstrated composure and ring control as the fight progressed.

Official measurements underscored the physical differences. Joshua entered at 6-foot-4 and over 243 pounds, compared to Paul’s 6-foot-1, 216-pound frame. The reach advantage also played a role, allowing Joshua to dictate distance in the latter rounds.

Following the bout, both fighters acknowledged the outcome. Joshua stated he achieved his objective of securing a stoppage, while also noting the performance was not at his peak level. Paul, meanwhile, indicated he sustained a jaw injury during the fight but expressed willingness to continue competing in professional boxing.

Heavyweight Landscape Implications Take Shape

The result carries implications for the broader heavyweight division. Joshua’s win strengthens his position for potential high-profile matchups, with discussions expected to continue around a possible bout with Tyson Fury, one of the division’s leading figures.

For Paul, the defeat moves his professional record to 12-2 and represents a step up in competition that exposed areas for development. Despite the loss, he has indicated intentions to remain active in the sport.

Originally, Paul had been scheduled to face Gervonta Davis, but that bout was canceled, leading to Joshua stepping in on short notice. The late change did not prevent the fight from drawing significant attention, given the contrasting backgrounds of the two competitors.

Next Steps for Both Fighters

Joshua is expected to pursue elite-level opposition as he looks to re-enter the title picture, with future bouts likely to carry direct championship implications.

Paul, meanwhile, faces a reassessment phase as he considers his next opponent and adjusts following his first loss against a top-tier heavyweight.

The outcome reinforces the competitive divide between established championship contenders and emerging crossover fighters, while shaping the next phase of matchmaking in the heavyweight division.

UFC 317 Predictions: Best Bets, Smart Picks, and Sleeper Value Heading Into International Fight Week

The biggest MMA event of the summer is here—UFC 317 touches down in Las Vegas this Saturday to cap off International Fight Week with a stacked card and two major title fights. From rising contenders to proven champions, there’s no shortage of action—or betting intrigue—on the main card.

Whether you’re looking to lock in a wager or just get a better feel for what’s at stake, we’ve broken down the five main card matchups with smart plays and odds (via DraftKings) to guide your picks. Let’s dive in.

Main Event: Ilia Topuria vs. Charles Oliveira

Pick: Charles Oliveira moneyline (+350)

This one’s all about value. Yes, Ilia Topuria is the rightful favorite. He’s undefeated, explosive, and moving up in weight after vacating the featherweight belt. But this is Charles Oliveira—the most prolific finisher in UFC history—we’re talking about, and he’s being offered at +350?

Sure, Oliveira has taken some damage lately (notably losses to Islam Makhachev and a razor-thin decision to Arman Tsarukyan), but that’s no reason to count him out. If this fight goes to the mat, or even if it just becomes a war of attrition, Oliveira has the tools to shock Topuria. At these odds, betting on the underdog isn’t just a gamble—it’s smart value.

Alternative angle: Topuria by KO/TKO/DQ at -175 if you’re backing the favorite.

Co-Main Event: Alexandre Pantoja vs. Kai Kara-France (Flyweight Title Bout)

Pick: Alexandre Pantoja moneyline (-238)

Pantoja isn’t just the reigning flyweight champ—he’s one of the most dominant fighters in the division’s history. With wins over most of the 125-pound elite, his mix of relentless pressure, takedowns, and submission threats has made him a nightmare to prepare for.

Kara-France is dangerous on the feet and comes in with heavy hands, but he’s 1-2 in his last three and hasn’t faced a grappler on Pantoja’s level. Unless Kara-France lands something fight-ending, this feels like another dominant performance for the champ.

Bonus stat: Pantoja averages 2.74 takedowns per 15 minutes, and Kara-France’s 88% takedown defense might not hold up against that volume.

Brandon Royval vs. Joshua Van

Pick: Brandon Royval +3.5 point spread (-200)
(Alternate value: Royval moneyline -102)

Joshua Van is just 23 but already showing huge promise. He’s on a four-fight win streak with a recent TKO just three weeks ago—a lightning-fast turnaround. But now he’s facing Royval, a veteran with a deep résumé and only three UFC losses, all to current or former champs.

Royval’s unorthodox striking and experience give him the edge in a fast-paced fight. The +3.5 spread bet covers you if Royval wins or even if he loses a competitive decision. He’s too good to be blown out.

Beneil Dariush vs. Renato Moicano

Pick: Fight to NOT go the distance (-165)

This is one of those “something’s got to give” matchups. Dariush, once a top contender, has been knocked out in back-to-back fights. Moicano, meanwhile, has been quietly climbing with a dangerous ground game and underrated striking.

Both men are extremely capable—but also extremely vulnerable. Dariush has been finished six times, Moicano five. That’s a recipe for fireworks, and it’s hard to see this one going all three rounds.

Payton Talbott vs. Felipe Lima

Pick: Payton Talbott +3.5 point spread (-150)

Talbott got humbled in January as a -1050 favorite when he was outwrestled by Raoni Barcelos. But don’t jump off the hype train just yet. He’s still a talented striker with a high ceiling, and every round starts on the feet—a good place for him to shine.

Lima will try to replicate Barcelos’ game plan and grind out a win on the mat. But we like Talbott to keep it close, possibly even take a round. The +3.5 spread gives you cover in case he loses on the cards but doesn’t get dominated.

Quick Recap of Picks

Oliveira (+350) — Too much value to ignore against Topuria

Pantoja (-238) — The champ should roll, especially if it hits the mat

Royval +3.5 (-200) — Veteran savvy vs. fast-rising prospect

Dariush vs. Moicano: Fight doesn’t go the distance (-165)

Talbott +3.5 (-150) — Bet on the bounce-back with room for error

Final Word

After a 2–3 showing at UFC 316, our 2025 record stands at a respectable 16–12. The key this week? Smart risk-taking. From underdog plays like Oliveira to point-spread hedges with Royval and Talbott, this is a card where the sharp money lies in nuance, not chalk.

So whether you’re betting big or just watching for the thrill, UFC 317 promises a night of high-stakes drama in Las Vegas. Let’s see how the chips fall.

Jon Jones Retires, Crowning Tom Aspinall as UFC Heavyweight Champion and Ending a Prolonged Saga

It’s official: Jon Jones is out, and Tom Aspinall is in.

UFC president Dana White confirmed Saturday night that Jones has retired from mixed martial arts, finally bringing an end to one of the most dragged-out standoffs in recent UFC history. The announcement came after the promotion’s card in Baku, where White told reporters, “Jon Jones called us last night and retired. Jon Jones is officially retired. Tom Aspinall is the heavyweight champion of the UFC.”

And just like that, the interim label is gone. Aspinall is now the undisputed heavyweight champion — but the road to get here was anything but straightforward.

A Retirement Months in the Making

In reality, Jones had one foot out the door for months. After dominating the UFC light heavyweight scene for over a decade, “Bones” made the move to heavyweight in 2023, winning the vacant title against Ciryl Gane after Francis Ngannou left the promotion. That victory was supposed to launch a new chapter in his storied career.

The UFC immediately lined up a legacy matchup between Jones and former champ Stipe Miocic — a clash of titans on paper. But when Miocic got injured, the bout was postponed again and again. Meanwhile, Tom Aspinall was tearing through the rest of the division, clearly earning his shot at the title.

Instead, Jones eventually fought Miocic in November 2024 and dispatched him with ease. Aspinall, sidelined from the title picture despite winning and defending an interim belt — something rarely done — had already beaten Sergei Pavlovich and Curtis Blaydes. Fans and pundits alike agreed: Jones vs. Aspinall was the fight to make.

A Championship Game of Hide-and-Seek

But Jones never seemed eager to make that fight happen. Months passed. No contract. No training updates. Just social media posts of Jones enjoying life, while Aspinall waited — and waited — growing more vocal and frustrated.

Jones dismissed talk that he was dodging the younger, hungrier contender. But let’s call it what it was: ducking. The UFC enabled it, with Dana White repeatedly backing Jones and allowing the division to stall. Even earlier this month, White teased that a fight might finally be coming together.

Instead, Jones disappeared from the title picture with a quiet phone call — the MMA equivalent of an Irish goodbye.

So, What’s Next for Aspinall?

Now officially the champion, Aspinall is expected to get his first true title defense lined up quickly. The 31-year-old Brit has already taken out most of the top contenders — including Pavlovich, Blaydes, and Alexander Volkov — which makes Ciryl Gane the most logical opponent on paper.

However the matchmaking plays out, this moment marks the beginning of a new era in the UFC heavyweight division. Aspinall has all the tools to be a dominant, long-reigning champ — but his rise will always be marked by a frustrating, awkward handoff of the crown.

And for Jon Jones? For all the greatness he achieved inside the cage, his final chapter may be remembered not for a triumphant send-off, but for the fight he never took.

Source: Yahoo Sports – Jon Jones retires, making Tom Aspinall new UFC heavyweight champion as drawn-out saga finally ends

UFC 316 Recap: Dvalishvili vs. O’Malley 2 – A Night of Redemption, Dominance, and Rising Stars

Live from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, UFC 316 delivered in every way — from brutal knockouts to jaw-dropping submissions. Headlined by two blockbuster title fights, this stacked card kept fans on the edge of their seats all night.

Main Event: Dvalishvili Silences the Hype Again

(C) Merab Dvalishvili vs. Sean O’Malley
UFC bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili (19-4) once again proved he has Sean O’Malley’s number. In their highly anticipated rematch, Dvalishvili defended his title in dominant fashion, shutting down the flashy striker’s offense with relentless pressure and grappling.

It’s his second title defense in 2025 and a performance that further cements his place atop the 135-pound mountain. For O’Malley (18-2, 1 NC), it’s back to the drawing board.

Co-Main Event: Peña Holds Off the Storm

(C) Julianna Peña vs. Kayla Harrison
In her toughest test yet, two-time champ Julianna Peña (13-5) stood her ground against Olympic judoka and rising contender Kayla Harrison (18-1).

The bout was a gritty battle between Peña’s scrappy volume and Harrison’s powerhouse grappling. In the end, Peña dug deep and did just enough to earn a hard-fought decision, silencing critics and holding onto her bantamweight belt.

Main Card Highlights

Mario Bautista Hands Patchy Mix First UFC Loss

Result: Bautista def. Mix via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)

Mario Bautista extended his win streak to eight in a clinical performance against the debuting Patchy Mix. From the opening bell, Bautista was sharp, slick, and in control, out-landing Mix and exploiting defensive holes.

This was a big statement for Bautista, especially after his controversial win over Jose Aldo. Beating a former Bellator champ this decisively could finally earn him a top-tier name next.

Kevin Holland Submits Luque With His Own Move

Result: Holland def. Luque via Submission (D’arce choke) – Round 2, 1:03

Kevin Holland pulled off one of the night’s most poetic finishes, tapping Vicente Luque with a D’arce choke — Luque’s signature submission. After landing a nasty elbow in Round 1, Holland capitalized in Round 2, taking Luque down and locking in the choke.

That’s back-to-back wins for “Trailblazer,” who seems back in form after a rocky start to the year.

More Main Card and Prelim Results

Joshua Van def. Bruno Silva via TKO (strikes), Round 3, 4:01

Azamat Murzakanov def. Brendson Ribeiro via TKO (strikes), Round 1, 3:25

Waldo Cortes-Acosta def. Serghei Spivac via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

Andreas Gustafsson def. Khaos Williams via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-26, 30-26)

Wang Cong def. Ariane da Silva via Unanimous Decision (30-27 across the board)

JooSang Yoo def. Jeka Saragih via KO (left hook), Round 1, 0:28

Quillan Salkilld def. Yanal Ashmouz via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

MarQuel Mederos def. Mark Choinski via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

How to Watch the Replay

If you missed the action, you can still catch all the fights:

Main Card Replay: Available on ESPN+ PPV

Prelims & Early Prelims: Stream on ESPN, ESPN Deportes, and UFC Fight Pass

Final Word

UFC 316 wasn’t just a night of fights — it was a showcase of what makes this sport so compelling: heart, grit, and unforgettable moments. Dvalishvili continues his reign, Peña holds the line, and rising names like Bautista and Holland make serious moves up the ladder.

Keep an eye on these fighters — the second half of 2025 is already looking wild.

Rising MMA Star Ibragim Ibragimov Extends Undefeated Streak With Help From Dagestani Legends

At just 20 years old, Ibragim Ibragimov is quickly becoming one of MMA’s most talked-about rising stars. His recent victory over Kenny Mokhonoana brought his professional record to a perfect 9-0—but the young fighter is quick to credit his success to the team behind him.

After the fight, Ibragimov took to Instagram to share a photo with his elite training crew in Dubai, which notably included MMA legends Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev. With those two icons guiding him, it’s no surprise Ibragimov’s career is skyrocketing.

Ibragimov is part of a new generation of fighters hailing from Dagestan, a small republic in Russia that’s earned global respect for producing some of MMA’s toughest athletes. Despite a population of just over three million, Dagestan has become a factory for elite-level fighters known for their wrestling grit, discipline, and relentless drive.

“In Dagestan, guys really want to be fighters,” Ibragimov told CNN Sports. “In Europe, a lot of guys just want the hype. But where I’m from, we live for this.”

According to Michael Lyubimov, general manager at the famed Jackson Wink MMA Academy, many Dagestani fighters are shaped by poverty and hardship from a young age.

“Most of them have been fighting since they were six,” Lyubimov shared. “By the time they get to the U.S., they’ve already had hundreds of fights under their belt.”

He recalled the story of Ismail Israilov, a Chechen fighter who recently won a bout after dislocating his shoulder. Israilov grew up fighting on the streets and training on pavement. For him and many others, fighting wasn’t a sport—it was survival.

The Dagestani culture, according to Lyubimov, is steeped in respect, discipline, and faith. Most fighters abstain from drinking or partying, instead devoting themselves entirely to their craft.

“In Dagestan, if Khabib or his father walked into a gym, everyone stands, everyone shows respect,” said Lyubimov. “You don’t talk back to elders. If you do, your peers will check you.”

This strict environment creates mentally tough athletes who don’t fold under pressure. Lyubimov says many will hide injuries just to sign contracts, delaying treatment until after they’ve secured a fight deal.

Khabib Nurmagomedov paved the way. The former UFC champion, known for his humility and dominance, became a global icon—especially after his explosive rivalry with Conor McGregor. Since retiring in 2020, Khabib has turned to coaching, mentoring the next wave of Dagestani stars, including current UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev.

Magomed Ankalaev also recently made headlines by becoming UFC light heavyweight champion, further cementing Dagestan’s dominance in the sport.

Training under Khabib and Makhachev in Dubai, Ibragimov says the intensity is next level. “Sometimes Khabib doesn’t even set a timer—we just keep rolling until he says stop,” he said.

Now based in Manchester, England, Ibragimov has not only elite mentors but also a roadmap to success already laid out by the legends before him.

“They already showed us the road we have to follow,” he said.

As his star continues to rise, Ibragimov is not just chasing victory—he’s carrying the pride of Dagestan with him into every fight.

UFC 314 Results & Highlights: Volkanovski Faces Lopes for Featherweight Gold

UFC 314 brought the heat to Miami, Florida on Saturday night (April 12), delivering a stacked card with high-stakes fights, breakout performances, and a fresh face set to be crowned the new UFC featherweight champion.

In the main event, former champion Alexander Volkanovski stepped into the Octagon looking to reclaim the featherweight title—but he faced stiff opposition in rising star Diego Lopes.

Volkanovski entered the bout on unfamiliar ground, coming off the first two-fight losing streak of his career after tough losses to Ilia Topuria and Islam Makhachev. Lopes, hungry for gold, saw this as his biggest opportunity yet to cement himself as the future of the division.

In the co-main event, crowd favorite Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett took on the seasoned Michael Chandler in a lightweight clash full of anticipation and energy.

Pimblett, still undefeated in the UFC, entered with plenty of hype, while Chandler came in as the underdog with something to prove—setting the stage for a thrilling showdown.

The rest of the main card didn’t disappoint either:

Yair Rodriguez vs. Patricio Pitbull – Former interim champ Rodriguez welcomed Bellator legend Pitbull to the UFC in a high-level featherweight clash.

Bryce Mitchell vs. Jean Silva – A heated grudge match between two featherweights on the rise.

Nikita Krylov vs. Dominick Reyes – The light heavyweights kicked off the main card with fireworks.

The preliminary card was packed with action:

Dan Ige battled Sean Woodson in a tactical featherweight bout.

Chase Hooper met veteran Jim Miller in a clash of youth vs. experience.

Virna Jandiroba took on Yan Xiaonan in a high-stakes women’s strawweight matchup.

One small hiccup before fight night: Nora Cornolle missed weight and forfeited 20% of her purse to opponent Haley Cowan—but the show went on.

Prelims Start: 6:00 PM ET

Main Card: Followed immediately after

As the night unfolded, fight fans were treated to finishes, drama, and standout performances across the board. From future champions to rising prospects, UFC 314 proved why it’s one of the most talked-about cards of the year.
