										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>TROY, Ohio</strong> – Former “American Idol” contestant and pastor Caleb Flynn was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole Monday after an Ohio jury convicted him of murdering his wife, Ashley Flynn.</p>
<p>Miami County Common Pleas Judge Jeannine Pratt imposed the sentence after Flynn was found guilty on nine charges, including aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault and tampering with evidence. The aggravated-murder conviction carried the life-without-parole sentence. Additional sentences were imposed for firearm specifications and tampering with evidence.</p>
<p>Flynn addressed the court before sentencing and continued to deny that he killed his wife. He told his daughters and other family members that he loved them and said he would continue to fight for his innocence.</p>
<p>The sentence follows Flynn’s Sept. 29 conviction, when a 12-person jury deliberated for a little more than two hours before finding him guilty on all nine charges.</p>
<h3>Judge imposes life without parole</h3>
<p>Judge Pratt said the jury’s verdict left her with what she described as a clear conclusion about Flynn’s responsibility for the killing.</p>
<p>The judge sharply criticized Flynn’s conduct, describing his actions as abhorrent and referring to what she characterized as layers of deceit, manipulation and cruelty. She also said Flynn had used his faith to manipulate others.</p>
<p>Family members of Ashley Flynn delivered emotional victim-impact statements during the sentencing hearing. Statements from the couple’s daughters were also read in court, describing the loss of their mother and the effect of her death on the family.</p>
<p>Flynn apologized to his daughters and acknowledged that he had failed the vows he made to Ashley, but he maintained that he did not kill her.</p>
<h3>Conviction followed allegations of a staged break-in</h3>
<p>The case centered on the Feb. 16 killing of Ashley Flynn, 37, at the couple’s home in Tipp City, Ohio.</p>
<p>Prosecutors argued that Flynn shot his wife twice in the back of the head while she was asleep and then staged the home to make it appear that an intruder had entered. Flynn had called 911 and reported that an unknown burglar was responsible.</p>
<p>The jury ultimately rejected the defense case and convicted Flynn on all nine counts. The aggravated-murder conviction was the basis for the life-without-parole sentence.</p>
<p>Prosecutors also presented evidence concerning Flynn’s relationship with Alleigha Botner, a former church intern. During the trial, Botner testified about an affair with Flynn and messages in which he expressed hostility toward his wife. Those allegations formed part of the prosecution’s case but should not be treated as a separate judicial finding beyond the convictions entered by the jury.</p>
<p>The murder weapon was not recovered, according to trial reporting.</p>
<p>The <strong>earlier Flynn murder trial</strong> ended with the Sept. 29 verdict after an eight-day trial.</p>
<h3>Flynn plans to challenge conviction</h3>
<p>Flynn’s defense has maintained his innocence and said it plans to appeal the conviction. The defense position remained unchanged at Monday’s sentencing, when Flynn again told the court that he did not kill Ashley.</p>
<p>The planned appeal means the case is not necessarily at the end of its judicial process, although Monday’s sentencing establishes the current trial-court judgment.</p>
<p>There is no indication in the available reporting that an appeal had already been filed at the time of sentencing.</p>
<h3>‘American Idol’ connection</h3>
<p>Flynn became known outside Ohio after appearing on “American Idol” in 2013. He auditioned in Chicago but did not advance to the Hollywood stage. He later worked as a pastor and worship leader.</p>
<p>His television appearance provides context for his public profile, but it was unrelated to the criminal case. The central development is the Ohio court’s life-without-parole sentence following his conviction for Ashley Flynn’s murder.</p>
