San Antonio Spurs’ Stephon Castle Wins 2024-25 NBA Rookie of the Year

San Antonio Spurs guard Stephon Castle has been named the recipient of the prestigious Wilt Chamberlain Trophy as the 2024-25 Kia NBA Rookie of the Year.

Castle’s win marks an exciting achievement for the Spurs, making them the first team in NBA history to have back-to-back Rookie of the Year winners since the Minnesota Timberwolves did so in 2014-15 (Andrew Wiggins) and 2015-16 (Karl-Anthony Towns). He joins an elite list of Spurs players to win the honor, including David Robinson (1989-90), Tim Duncan (1997-98), and last season’s standout rookie, Victor Wembanyama (2023-24).

In his remarkable 2024-25 regular season, Castle delivered an impressive performance across the board, averaging 14.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 0.91 steals in 26.7 minutes per game. Notably, he led all rookies in points per game, while also ranking fourth in assists and sixth in steals. Castle finished the season with the most total points (1,190), steals (74), and free throws made (249) among first-year players.

Castle’s stellar performance didn’t go unnoticed, as he earned the Kia NBA Western Conference Rookie of the Month title twice, for the months of January and March. His post-All-Star break play was especially impressive, where he averaged 17.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.0 assists in 30 games.

At the 2025 NBA All-Star Weekend in San Francisco, Castle took home the Most Valuable Player award for the Castrol Rising Stars game, showcasing his growing talent and leadership on a national stage.

The winner was selected by a global media panel of 100 voters, with the balloting tabulated by the independent accounting firm Ernst & Young LLP.

This award adds to Castle’s bright future with the Spurs and solidifies his place as one of the league’s rising stars.
