Rihanna Attends A$AP Rocky’s Trial as Crucial Testimony Unfolds

Rihanna, the superstar singer and partner to rapper A$AP Rocky, sat in the courtroom as crucial moments of the trial surrounding her partner’s alleged involvement in a 2021 shooting were unveiled. The rapper, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, faces charges of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, with a maximum potential sentence of 24 years if convicted.

Rihanna’s Support at the Trial

Rihanna, who shares two young children with Rocky, made her appearance at the trial for a third day. She entered discreetly about 30 minutes after testimony began, sitting next to Rocky’s mother. After the lunch break, she entered with Rocky for the first time. When asked by reporters how she was holding up, Rihanna responded simply, “I’m good, thank you,” before leaving separately in an SUV. Her earlier visits to the courtroom had been made under heavy secrecy.

Key Testimony in Cross-Examination

A$AP Relli, a former friend of Rocky and the accuser in the case, spent a second day under cross-examination. His testimony about the 2021 Hollywood street incident, where he alleges Rocky fired a gun at him, became a point of intense scrutiny for the defense.

Relli claimed his hand was grazed during the shooting and that it felt “hot.” He showed the court a photo of his knuckles, which had scrapes, though he did not seek medical help until two days later in New York. The defense questioned his delayed treatment, with attorney Joe Tacopina asking, “You waited to fly all the way across the country before seeking medical attention?”

Relli explained that he had wrapped his hand that night, but Tacopina pressed him, suggesting that Relli only sought medical attention because his lawyer in a separate civil case, in which he’s seeking money from Rocky, advised him to do so.

At one point, Tacopina asked, “You really don’t care about getting the police involved, your endgame was getting money from Rocky, correct?” Relli denied it, stating he wanted protection because he feared further violence.

Testimony and Frustration in the Courtroom

Throughout the day, Relli became visibly frustrated and angry. He frequently challenged the relevance of questions, muttered under his breath, and was ordered by the judge to answer questions with “yes” or “no.” When asked about phone calls that were allegedly recorded by someone named Wally, Relli initially denied knowing the person but later contradicted himself, stating that Wally frequently reached out to him.

Tacopina also questioned Relli about a phone call in which he allegedly mentioned walking away from the criminal case if he was paid millions. Relli denied that it was his voice in the recording. Tacopina pushed back, calling the recordings fake. The defense ended its cross-examination after scoring some points, with Relli scheduled to return to the stand on Monday for further questioning.

Rocky’s Defense and the Prop Gun Claim

In a surprising move, Rocky’s defense team revealed that they believe the gun involved in the incident was a starter pistol that only discharged blanks, which Rocky allegedly kept for security purposes. The defense argued that Relli was aware of this.

Relli testified under prosecution questioning that he had never known Rocky to carry a gun, though when pressed by Tacopina, Relli admitted uncertainty. Tacopina then quipped, “Well, one thing you know, is for sure, he doesn’t carry a prop gun.”

The defense’s theory about the prop gun led to an intense argument between Tacopina and Deputy District Attorney John Lewin during a break. Lewin criticized the defense’s focus on the prop gun issue, calling it irrelevant, and Tacopina fired back, accusing Relli of perjury and calling out the prosecutors for enabling his behavior. The exchange became heated, with the judge walking out of the courtroom in frustration.

The Stakes for A$AP Rocky

The outcome of this trial holds significant implications for Rocky, whose career is on the line. Despite the charges, he is nominated for his third Grammy Award this weekend, just two miles away from the courthouse. If convicted, the rapper could face up to 24 years in prison.

Rihanna, who has been a constant presence in the courtroom, continues to support Rocky throughout this tumultuous time, with the couple’s two young sons, RZA and Riot, also at the center of the emotional stakes in this high-profile case.
