Protests Disrupt Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC

Pro-Palestinian Protesters Arrested for Disrupting Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

More than two dozen Pro-Palestinian protesters were arrested for blocking the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City on Thursday.

For the second year in a row, protesters jumped over the barriers and ran onto West 55th Street just before 9:30 a.m. They sat on the ground, locked arms, and chanted, “Free, free Palestine!” Some held a banner reading, “Don’t celebrate genocide! Arms embargo now.”

The interruption lasted about five minutes, with spectators initially booing, but then cheering as NYPD officers moved in to remove the protesters.

The parade was briefly delayed while the protesters were cleared from the road.

This protest comes amid growing international calls for a ceasefire in Gaza, as efforts to end the conflict have been unsuccessful. More than 40,000 people have died in Gaza since the war began on October 7, 2023.

The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, a holiday tradition since 1927, continued after the brief disruption.
