Shannon Sharpe Sued for Sexual Assault in Las Vegas Lawsuit

NFL Hall of Famer and popular sports commentator Shannon Sharpe is facing serious allegations after being sued for sexual assault by a woman in Nevada. The woman, identified as Jane Doe in the lawsuit, accuses Sharpe of raping her twice over a two-month span in 2023 at her home in Las Vegas.

The civil complaint, filed Sunday in Nevada state court, alleges that Sharpe “violently sexually assaulted and anally raped Plaintiff two different times,” ignoring her repeated pleas for him to stop. The woman is seeking at least $50 million in damages for the alleged assaults and associated emotional distress.

Sharpe has denied all allegations, calling them “categorically false.” In a statement posted to X (formerly Twitter) and attributed to his attorney, Lanny Davis, Sharpe identified the woman and released what he claims are text messages that show their relationship was consensual.

He described the accusations as “a gross lie” and an “egregious attempt at blackmail,” vowing to defend his reputation.

According to the lawsuit, Sharpe and the woman first met at a gym in Los Angeles in 2023 and entered a consensual relationship. However, the plaintiff alleges the relationship turned abusive after she moved to Las Vegas — where Sharpe also relocated.

The first alleged assault reportedly occurred after Sharpe confronted her and forced his way into her home. She claims he demanded sex and then forced her to perform oral sex before raping her.

The second incident, which the lawsuit says happened in January, describes a similarly violent encounter. The complaint alleges Sharpe pulled the woman around, forced her to perform oral sex, and then penetrated her against her will.

In addition to sexual battery, the lawsuit also accuses Sharpe of intentional infliction of emotional distress, pointing to verbal abuse and threats as part of a broader pattern of misconduct.

Notably, this isn’t the only legal challenge Sharpe is facing. An ex-girlfriend has filed a separate lawsuit in New York, also accusing him of coercive sexual behavior.

Jane Doe is represented by Tony Buzbee, the attorney known for taking on high-profile figures, including rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs in recent lawsuits involving multiple accusers. Buzbee’s involvement signals this case may continue to generate significant media attention.

The lawsuit comes at a time when Sharpe is enjoying a surge in his media career. He recently signed a multi-year deal with ESPN, expanding his role on First Take, one of the network’s flagship programs.

As the legal process unfolds, both the NFL legend’s public image and professional future could hang in the balance.
