Jay-Z Denies Allegations of Assaulting Teenager, Calls for Criminal Investigation
High-Profile Lawsuit Adds Jay-Z to Allegations Against Diddy
Jay-Z has firmly denied allegations of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl at a party in 2000, allegations that were recently added to an ongoing lawsuit against Sean “Diddy” Combs. The woman, identified as Jane Doe, initially filed the lawsuit against Combs in October but amended it on Sunday to include Shawn Carter, better known as Jay-Z.
The lawsuit accuses Carter of assaulting Doe at an afterparty following the 2000 Video Music Awards. Doe claims she felt disoriented after drinking and was allegedly assaulted by Carter first, followed by Combs. According to the lawsuit, she managed to escape after striking Combs and fleeing the room.
Jay-Z’s Strong Response
In a statement to CNN, Carter called the allegations “heinous” and urged the accuser to file criminal charges instead of a civil lawsuit. “Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree?” he stated.
Carter also criticized Doe’s legal team, calling their mediation request a “blackmail attempt.” He accused attorney Tony Buzbee of using theatrical tactics, stating, “This lawyer, who I have done a bit of research on, seems to have a pattern of these types of theatrics.”
Diddy’s Legal Troubles
Combs, who has been indicted on charges of sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and prostitution-related offenses, has pleaded not guilty and denied all wrongdoing. The lawsuit against him is one of approximately 30 civil cases filed, alleging similar misconduct.
Allegations of Harassment and Intimidation
According to the amended lawsuit, Carter’s team allegedly engaged in harassment and intimidation to silence Jane Doe and discredit her attorneys. The legal filing claims Carter orchestrated a “conspiracy of harassment, bullying, and intimidation against Plaintiff’s lawyers, their families, employees, and former associates.”
Impact on Carter’s Family
Carter expressed heartbreak over the effect of the allegations on his family, particularly his children. “My wife and I will have to sit our children down and explain the cruelty and greed of people. I mourn yet another loss of innocence,” he stated.
Counterclaims of Extortion
In November, CNN reported that an unnamed celebrity had filed a lawsuit against Buzbee, accusing him of attempting to extort large sums of money by threatening to publicly file fabricated allegations of sexual assault. Buzbee denied the extortion claims, asserting that his firm is committed to representing survivors of sexual violence.
Buzbee’s Defense
Responding to Carter’s statements, Buzbee emphasized that Jane Doe “never demanded a penny” from Jay-Z and sought only confidential mediation. “She is emboldened,” Buzbee wrote on social media. “I’m very proud of her resolve.”
What’s Next?
As both Carter and Combs deny the allegations, the lawsuit raises critical questions about power, accountability, and justice in high-profile cases. The court proceedings are expected to shed more light on the claims and counterclaims surrounding this controversial case.
