Guilty but Free: Kim Kardashian Robbery Suspects Sentenced After Trial - Piroschka Van De Wouw/Reuters

‘Grandpa Robbers’ Behind Kim Kardashian’s 2016 Paris Heist Sentenced — But Will Walk Free

After a tense, weeks-long trial, eight people involved in the shocking 2016 armed robbery of reality star Kim Kardashian in her Paris rental apartment have been found guilty. Dubbed the “Grandpa robbers” due to the older age of many accused, the group’s ringleader received an eight-year prison sentence — but most will walk free after time already served.

Key Sentences and Verdict

Aomar Aït Khedache, the alleged mastermind, was handed an eight-year sentence, with five years suspended. His seven co-defendants faced various charges, including organized gang robbery, kidnapping, possession of weapons, and aggravated theft. Most also received prison sentences, partially suspended, but the court ruled that all would be released given the time they have already spent in custody.

Two other defendants were acquitted of complicity charges, though one was ordered to pay 5,000 euros in compensation to Kim Kardashian and others affected by the crime.

“The sentences are quite lenient,” Judge David De Pas acknowledged, “but the impact on the victims cannot be overlooked. Even without physical harm, you caused fear and trauma.”

Kim Kardashian Speaks Out

In a heartfelt statement after the verdict, Kardashian expressed her gratitude to the French authorities for pursuing justice. She called the robbery “the most terrifying experience” of her life, one that continues to affect her and her family.

“While I’ll never forget what happened, I believe in growth and accountability,” Kardashian said. “I pray for healing for all involved and remain committed to advocating for justice and a fair legal system.”

Her legal team echoed her sentiments, thanking the French courts for their respect and professionalism throughout the process. They noted how far Kardashian has come — from that terrifying night during Paris Fashion Week in 2016 to confronting her attackers in court. She now hopes to move forward while continuing her work to improve the criminal justice system for victims and those seeking redemption.

Defense Reaction and Trial Highlights

Gabriel Dumenil, lawyer for Yunice Abbas (sentenced to seven years with five suspended), called the verdict “fair and just” and expressed happiness that his client could return home to family.

During the trial, Kardashian gave a powerful testimony describing the moment armed men broke into her hotel room. She recalled pleading for her life, terrified for her safety and fearing sexual assault.

“I have babies, I have to make it home, I have babies,” she said, pleading with the robbers as they manhandled her while she wore only a robe.

Although mostly composed, Kardashian was visibly emotional at times, describing how the robbery forever changed her life and security arrangements.

Additional Case Details

Of the original 12 suspects, one has died, and another was deemed unfit for trial due to Alzheimer’s disease.

In a dramatic moment near the trial’s end, the judge read a letter from Aït Khedache apologizing for the pain caused. Though present in court, the 68-year-old ringleader, partially deaf and unable to speak, expressed regret through his lawyer.

Kardashian, moved by the apology, said she forgave him but noted, “It doesn’t change the emotion and the trauma.”
