Kentucky Boy Accidentally Orders 70,000 Dum-Dum Lollipops, Leaving Mom in a Sticky Situation

LEXINGTON, Ky. — A Kentucky mother found herself in a sticky situation when stacks of lollipop boxes started arriving on her doorstep, all thanks to a simple mistake made by her 8-year-old son, Liam.

Holly LaFavers, who initially thought she could stop the order, was shocked to discover her son had used her phone to place an Amazon order for a whopping 70,000 Dum-Dum suckers. The unexpected delivery included 22 cases of the lollipops before LaFavers realized what had happened.

Liam explained that he had ordered the sweets for a “carnival” he wanted to throw, planning to use them as prizes for his friends. “He was being friendly, he was being kind to his friends,” LaFavers said. But his good intentions came with an eye-popping price tag — nearly $4,000.

“When I saw what the number was, I just about fainted,” she admitted. While the shock didn’t end there, LaFavers later discovered that eight more cases were still missing from the order. Fortunately, after a trip to the post office, those additional cases were sent back.

LaFavers quickly sprang into action, working with the bank and news outlets to try to resolve the situation. “After a long day of working with the bank and talking to a few news stations, Amazon called and they are refunding my money,” she shared on social media, offering relief after the stressful ordeal.

The experience was a wake-up call for LaFavers, who has now taken steps to prevent any future surprise deliveries by adjusting the settings on her phone.

While the mix-up left her with quite a mess to handle, LaFavers can now breathe a sigh of relief — and perhaps a little less candy on her doorstep.
