Retired Providence Municipal Court Judge and former TV star Frank Caprio has shared a heartfelt update on his health, asking fans to pray as he faces a setback in his pancreatic cancer treatment. Known for his compassion both on and off the bench, Caprio continues to inspire a global audience.

Judge Caprio Shares Health Update from Hospital

Frank Caprio, 88, the retired Providence Municipal Court Judge and popular host of the syndicated show Caught in Providence, announced on social media that he is back in the hospital due to a setback in his ongoing battle with pancreatic cancer.

In a video posted to Facebook, Caprio said, “Last year, I asked you to pray for me, and it’s very obvious that you did, because I came through a very difficult period. Unfortunately, I’ve had a setback. I’m back in the hospital now. I’m coming to you again, asking you to remember me in your prayers.”

Caprio emphasized his belief in the power of prayer, saying, “I’m a great believer in the power of prayer.”

A Life of Service and Compassion

Caprio served as a Providence Municipal Court judge for 38 years, gaining a reputation for fairness and empathy. His warmth and understanding extended beyond the courtroom when he became a household name through the television series Caught in Providence. The show offered viewers an inside look at Caprio’s courtroom as he adjudicated cases involving parking and traffic violations. Many recall his gentle conversations with defendants and his thoughtful consideration of their circumstances.

Earlier this year, Caprio published Compassion in the Court, a memoir highlighting his life story and the values that shaped his career. The book details the influence of his immigrant parents, his Federal Hill neighborhood, and the lessons of kindness he learned from his father, a milkman who often went above and beyond to help customers in need.

Social Media Outpouring of Support

Caprio’s recent Facebook post reached millions, reflecting the widespread admiration he continues to receive. As of mid-morning on the day of his announcement, 882,000 Facebook users had reacted, 180,000 left comments, and 26,000 shared the post. With 3.2 million followers on his page, Caprio’s message of hope and prayer resonated globally, showing the deep connection between the judge and his audience.

Continuing the Fight Against Pancreatic Cancer

Caprio first revealed his pancreatic cancer diagnosis in December 2023, requesting prayers and support from the public. Pancreatic cancer is known for its aggressive nature, making early detection and ongoing treatment critical. While Caprio faced a challenging period last year, his resilience and positive outlook helped him endure.

Even during this latest setback, Caprio’s message reflects his enduring spirit. He encourages supporters to keep him in their thoughts and prayers as he continues treatment, highlighting the importance of community and faith in difficult times.

Legacy of Compassion

Frank Caprio’s career and personal philosophy emphasize empathy and understanding. Viewers of Caught in Providence often praised his ability to balance justice with humanity. His actions, both on the bench and in his personal life, demonstrate a commitment to fairness, kindness, and the belief that small gestures—like those he witnessed from his father—can leave a lasting impact.

Through his book, media appearances, and social media engagement, Caprio has inspired millions to approach life with empathy, illustrating that compassion is a powerful force, even amid personal struggles.
