Sha’Carri Richardson Arrested at Seattle Airport in Domestic Incident Involving Fellow Sprinter

Writing Time: August 3, 2025, 18:15 (U.S. Eastern Time)

U.S. track star Sha’Carri Richardson, the reigning world champion in the women’s 100 meters, was arrested over the weekend at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident involving fellow sprinter Christian Coleman.

Authorities confirmed that Richardson was booked on a fourth-degree domestic violence offense. She was released from custody the following day. The incident occurred just days before her participation in the U.S. Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, where she competed in the opening round of the women’s 100 meters.

Incident Reported at Sea-Tac Airport

According to a police report obtained by the Associated Press, a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) supervisor alerted airport police to a disturbance involving Richardson and her boyfriend, Coleman.

The responding officer reviewed surveillance footage, which reportedly showed Richardson grabbing Coleman’s backpack with her left hand and yanking it. She then appeared to obstruct his path as he tried to walk away. The footage also showed Coleman being pushed into a wall and an object—possibly a pair of headphones—being thrown in his direction.

Arrest and Booking Details

Richardson, 25, was booked at the South Correctional Entity (SCORE) facility in Des Moines, Washington, at 6:54 p.m. on Sunday. She was released the following afternoon, Monday at 1:13 p.m., without bond.

Authorities stated that Christian Coleman declined to press charges and opted not to cooperate further with the investigation.

“I was told Coleman did not want to participate any further in the investigation and declined to be a victim,” the report noted.

USATF and Agent Responses

USA Track and Field (USATF) issued a brief statement acknowledging the incident but declined to provide further comment:

“USATF is aware of the reports and is not commenting on this matter.”

Richardson’s agent did not respond to an emailed request for comment as of publication time.

Legal Context: What Is Fourth-Degree Domestic Violence?

In the state of Washington, fourth-degree domestic violence is a gross misdemeanor, typically applied to physical acts that result in minimal or no injury but are deemed harmful or threatening under domestic relations law. Convictions can result in fines, mandatory counseling, or up to 364 days in jail, though outcomes often depend on the specifics of the case and the willingness of the alleged victim to cooperate.

At this point, it is unclear whether prosecutors will pursue the case without Coleman’s cooperation. No formal charges beyond the arrest have been publicly confirmed.

A Complicated Timeline for a Star Athlete

Richardson’s arrest comes at a critical time in her athletic career. The 100-meter champion recently competed in the 2025 U.S. Track and Field Championships, where she ran in the opening round. As the defending world champion, she has already secured an automatic qualification for the 2025 World Athletics Championships set to take place this September in Tokyo.

Her athletic resume remains impressive. She claimed gold in the 100 meters at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest and followed that with a silver medal performance at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, where she also contributed to a gold medal victory in the women’s 4×100-meter relay.

Past Controversies and Public Profile

Richardson is no stranger to controversy. In 2021, she tested positive for marijuana following the U.S. Olympic Trials, a result that led to her suspension and absence from the Tokyo Olympics. The incident sparked widespread public debate on marijuana policies in sports and elevated her profile beyond track and field.

Since then, Richardson has been both celebrated for her resilience and athleticism and criticized for her occasionally polarizing social media presence. Her arrest is likely to prompt renewed scrutiny, particularly given her role as one of the most visible female sprinters in the sport today.

Legal Uncertainty and Upcoming Competitions

At this time, it remains uncertain whether Richardson’s arrest will affect her participation in upcoming international events. Neither World Athletics, the sport’s global governing body, nor U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) has issued statements regarding her eligibility.

Should the situation escalate legally, it could potentially impact her travel permissions or disrupt her athletic calendar. However, under current circumstances—with no formal charges and the alleged victim declining to cooperate—it appears unlikely that immediate disciplinary action will be taken.

Public and Media Reactions

Public reaction to the arrest has been mixed across social media platforms. Supporters have emphasized due process and the athlete’s right to privacy, while critics have called for accountability, particularly given Richardson’s status as a high-profile public figure.

Sports media outlets and legal analysts caution against premature conclusions, noting that domestic violence cases—especially those involving public figures—often undergo extended investigations before definitive legal outcomes are reached.

Looking Ahead

Sha’Carri Richardson remains a central figure in American athletics, known for her speed, outspoken personality, and resilience. As the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo approach, all eyes will be on how this incident unfolds—both legally and professionally.

Whether or not this arrest will affect her competition schedule or sponsorship standing remains to be seen. For now, Richardson continues to compete, and the legal process is still unfolding.

Ex-NBA Player Ben McLemore Sentenced to Over 8 Years for Rape at 2021 Party

PORTLAND, Ore. — Former NBA shooting guard Ben McLemore has been sentenced to more than eight years in prison following his conviction for raping a 21-year-old woman at a private party in Oregon in 2021. The case marks a stunning legal downfall for the former lottery pick, once seen as one of the most promising prospects in professional basketball.

Clackamas County Judge Issues 100-Month Prison Term

Clackamas County Circuit Court Judge Michael Wetzel handed down the 100-month sentence on Wednesday after a jury last week found the 32-year-old guilty on three felony counts: rape, unlawful sexual penetration, and sexual abuse. He was acquitted of a second sexual abuse charge.

The assault took place at a party hosted in Lake Oswego, a Portland suburb, at the home of McLemore’s then-teammate, Robert Covington. At the time, both players were members of the Portland Trail Blazers.

Victim Testifies She Was Too Intoxicated to Consent

During the trial, prosecutors argued that McLemore engaged in sexual activity with the victim while she was incapacitated from alcohol consumption and unable to give consent. The woman took the stand and testified that she had no recollection of the sexual encounter until later being informed by others.

McLemore admitted to having sex with the woman but claimed it was consensual, despite acknowledging that both had been drinking heavily at the party. The jury ultimately sided with the prosecution’s argument that the encounter constituted rape under Oregon law due to the victim’s intoxication and inability to consent.

The case drew attention for its complexity, hinging not on physical evidence or witness testimony of force, but on the legal definition of consent and impairment due to alcohol — a growing focal point in sexual assault law.

NBA Career and Rapid Rise to Fame

Ben McLemore first gained national attention as a standout player at the University of Kansas, where his athleticism and shooting ability made him a projected top-10 pick. In 2013, the Sacramento Kings selected him seventh overall in the NBA Draft.

Over nearly a decade in the league, McLemore played for multiple teams including the Memphis Grizzlies, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, and the Portland Trail Blazers. While he never fully lived up to his draft-day expectations, he carved out a solid role as a perimeter shooter and bench contributor.

His final NBA season was with Portland during the 2021–2022 campaign — the same year the sexual assault took place. After that, McLemore transitioned to international leagues, signing short-term contracts with professional teams in China, Turkey, and various European countries.

From Court to Courtroom: A Career Derailed

The sentencing caps a fall from grace for a player once celebrated for his poise and potential. While McLemore’s NBA career had already appeared to be winding down, the conviction effectively ends any remaining prospects of returning to the league or signing lucrative contracts overseas.

Though Clackamas County prosecutors did not push for the maximum possible sentence, they emphasized that justice for the victim — whose identity is protected under law — remained the priority.

Legal experts note that the case reflects broader cultural and judicial shifts in how consent is evaluated, especially in situations involving alcohol and high-profile defendants.

Public and Legal Reactions

The Portland Trail Blazers have not issued a public comment regarding McLemore’s conviction or sentencing. Nor has the NBA. However, advocates for sexual assault survivors have applauded the outcome, calling it a rare example of accountability for a professional athlete accused of sexual violence.

McLemore’s defense team has not announced whether they plan to appeal the conviction.

The case adds to a growing list of former athletes facing criminal charges after their playing careers, spotlighting the intersection of fame, power, and the criminal justice system.

Shannon Sharpe Sued for Sexual Assault in Las Vegas Lawsuit

NFL Hall of Famer and popular sports commentator Shannon Sharpe is facing serious allegations after being sued for sexual assault by a woman in Nevada. The woman, identified as Jane Doe in the lawsuit, accuses Sharpe of raping her twice over a two-month span in 2023 at her home in Las Vegas.

The civil complaint, filed Sunday in Nevada state court, alleges that Sharpe “violently sexually assaulted and anally raped Plaintiff two different times,” ignoring her repeated pleas for him to stop. The woman is seeking at least $50 million in damages for the alleged assaults and associated emotional distress.

Sharpe has denied all allegations, calling them “categorically false.” In a statement posted to X (formerly Twitter) and attributed to his attorney, Lanny Davis, Sharpe identified the woman and released what he claims are text messages that show their relationship was consensual.

He described the accusations as “a gross lie” and an “egregious attempt at blackmail,” vowing to defend his reputation.

According to the lawsuit, Sharpe and the woman first met at a gym in Los Angeles in 2023 and entered a consensual relationship. However, the plaintiff alleges the relationship turned abusive after she moved to Las Vegas — where Sharpe also relocated.

The first alleged assault reportedly occurred after Sharpe confronted her and forced his way into her home. She claims he demanded sex and then forced her to perform oral sex before raping her.

The second incident, which the lawsuit says happened in January, describes a similarly violent encounter. The complaint alleges Sharpe pulled the woman around, forced her to perform oral sex, and then penetrated her against her will.

In addition to sexual battery, the lawsuit also accuses Sharpe of intentional infliction of emotional distress, pointing to verbal abuse and threats as part of a broader pattern of misconduct.

Notably, this isn’t the only legal challenge Sharpe is facing. An ex-girlfriend has filed a separate lawsuit in New York, also accusing him of coercive sexual behavior.

Jane Doe is represented by Tony Buzbee, the attorney known for taking on high-profile figures, including rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs in recent lawsuits involving multiple accusers. Buzbee’s involvement signals this case may continue to generate significant media attention.

The lawsuit comes at a time when Sharpe is enjoying a surge in his media career. He recently signed a multi-year deal with ESPN, expanding his role on First Take, one of the network’s flagship programs.

As the legal process unfolds, both the NFL legend’s public image and professional future could hang in the balance.

Braves’ Jurickson Profar Suspended 80 Games for PED Use, Calls It ‘Most Difficult Day’ of His Career

Atlanta Braves outfielder Jurickson Profar has been handed an 80-game suspension without pay after testing positive for a banned performance-enhancing drug, Chorionic Gonadotrophin (hCG), Major League Baseball (MLB) announced Monday. The hormone, known to aid in testosterone production, violates the league’s drug prevention and treatment program.

The suspension is effective immediately, making Profar ineligible to return until June 29 against the Philadelphia Phillies—barring any postponements. Additionally, he will forfeit $5.8 million of his $12 million salary and will be barred from postseason play.

This marks the second PED-related suspension for the Braves, following pitcher Andrew McKirahan’s 80-game ban in 2015.

In a heartfelt statement, Profar described this as the most difficult day of his baseball career, expressing disbelief over the test result:

“Anyone who knows me and has seen me play knows I am deeply passionate about the game. There is nothing I love more than competing with my teammates and being a fan favorite. I want to apologize to the entire Braves organization, my teammates, and the fans.”

Profar also emphasized that he has never knowingly taken a banned substance:

“I have been tested my entire career, including eight times last season alone, and have never tested positive. I would never willingly take a banned substance, but I take full responsibility and accept MLB’s decision.”

Braves’ Response and Team Outlook

Braves manager Brian Snitker addressed the situation but declined to share details of his conversation with Profar:

“He hated it, and we hate it for him.”

Despite the setback, Snitker sees this as an opportunity for another player to step up:

“It’s an opportunity for somebody else to step in and do something really good.”

The Braves have faced significant adversity in recent years, including the devastating loss of four-time All-Star Ronald Acuña Jr. to an ACL tear last May. However, Snitker remains confident in his team’s resilience:

“They’ve been tasked with handling a lot of things over the last few years, and they’re a really good group about doing it. They’re going to keep fighting and working.”

At 32 years old, Profar is coming off a career-best season with the San Diego Padres, where he hit .280 with 24 home runs and 85 RBIs, earning an All-Star selection and a Silver Slugger Award. He signed a three-year, $42 million deal with the Braves in the offseason.

In response to Profar’s absence, the Braves traded for outfielder Stuart Fairchild from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for cash. Fairchild, 29, hit .215 with eight homers and 30 RBIs last season.

Profar is now the fourth player suspended under MLB’s performance-enhancing substance policy this year, following suspensions under both the minor league and international programs.

Last year, two MLB players were also suspended:

Noelvi Marté (Cincinnati Reds) – 80 games for Boldenone.

Orelvis Martínez (Toronto Blue Jays) – 80 games for Clomiphene, just two days after his MLB debut.

Profar’s suspension is a major blow to the Braves’ lineup, but with a history of overcoming challenges, the team is determined to push forward. As Profar serves his suspension, the Braves will rely on their depth to maintain their competitive edge in the 2024 MLB season.
