Carlos Ulberg captured the vacant UFC light heavyweight championship on Saturday night, stopping former champion Jiri Prochazka at 3:45 of the opening round in the main event of UFC 327 at Kaseya Center in Miami. The finish came via a sharp left hook after Ulberg had appeared compromised by an early knee injury, making the result one of the division’s most significant recent swings.

The victory gives Ulberg the undisputed belt at 205 pounds after former champion Alex Pereira vacated the title to pursue a heavyweight opportunity, creating an immediate shift in the championship hierarchy. Entering the bout on a lengthy winning streak, Ulberg converted his first title opportunity into a definitive finish that now places the rest of the contenders under pressure in the division race.

Injury Scare Turns Into Decisive Championship Moment

The dominant competitive angle of UFC 327 centered on the decisive championship moment rather than the spectacle surrounding the event.

Ulberg appeared in trouble early when his right knee buckled awkwardly while planting. Prochazka recognized the opening and repeatedly targeted the damaged leg with kicks instead of forcing a more aggressive finish. That tactical hesitation proved decisive.

With Prochazka stepping forward late in the round, Ulberg timed the exchange perfectly and landed the counter left hook that ended the fight. The finish not only handed Prochazka another setback in title bouts, but also reinforced Ulberg’s reputation as one of the division’s most dangerous counter-strikers.

Title Landscape Shifts at Light Heavyweight

The result carries immediate implications for the division’s standings.

Ulberg’s win marks the beginning of a new championship cycle at light heavyweight, a weight class that had been defined by Pereira’s recent run. Prochazka, a former belt-holder and long-time elite contender, now faces a more difficult route back into title contention after another missed championship opportunity.

With Pereira set for a heavyweight assignment and Ulberg now champion, the UFC’s 205-pound bracket is likely to revolve around fresh challengers, potential rematches, and the positioning of top-ranked contenders over the next quarter of the schedule.

Co-Main and Heavyweight Bout Add Future Card Stakes

Elsewhere on the main card, Paulo Costa stopped Azamat Murzakanov in the third round with a head kick, a result that could push Costa into relevance in the light heavyweight rankings after his move up in weight.

In the heavyweight division, Josh Hokit earned a unanimous decision over Curtis Blaydes, a result that further deepens the upper-tier contender conversation. The bout’s aftermath already generated future matchmaking momentum, with UFC officials moving quickly toward a possible Derrick Lewis matchup.

What Comes Next

Ulberg’s title win immediately opens multiple championship pathways for the UFC.

The most likely next phase centers on whether Pereira eventually returns to light heavyweight, whether Prochazka remains near the top of the queue, or whether another rising contender is elevated into a title eliminator.

For now, the key competitive takeaway is clear: the light heavyweight belt has a new champion, and the division’s next era now runs through Carlos Ulberg.

MIAMI — Jake Paul is set to face former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua on Friday at the Kaseya Center, in a bout widely regarded as a significant test of Paul’s professional boxing career and a critical moment in Joshua’s attempt to reassert his standing in the division.

The eight-round heavyweight contest, streamed globally on Netflix without a pay-per-view model, brings together two fighters from vastly different backgrounds and levels of experience. According to reporting from the Associated Press, Joshua enters as the clear favorite based on his résumé, size, and championship pedigree, while Paul seeks what he described as “the biggest upset in the history of sport.”

Heavyweight Division Stakes and Experience Gap

Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs), a former Olympic gold medalist at the 2012 London Games, has long been a central figure in the heavyweight division. However, he has not competed since September 2024, when he was stopped in five rounds by Daniel Dubois.

In contrast, Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) has built his career through a series of unconventional matchups, including bouts against retired or crossover athletes such as Anderson Silva and Nate Díaz, as well as a unanimous decision win over former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

The physical and experiential disparity is also notable. Joshua, standing 6-foot-6, holds a six-inch reach advantage and weighed 243 pounds at Thursday’s weigh-in, compared to Paul’s 216 pounds. The bout marks one of Paul’s first tests against a fully active, elite-level heavyweight competitor.

Promotion, Audience Reach, and Boxing’s Commercial Landscape

Paul has played a central role in reshaping how boxing events are marketed and consumed, leveraging his social media following and promotional company to attract global audiences.

His 2024 exhibition-style fight against Mike Tyson reportedly drew 72,300 spectators at AT&T Stadium in Texas and generated more than 100 million global views, according to figures cited in earlier reports.

Friday’s fight continues that model, with Netflix distributing the event to a global audience, signaling a shift away from traditional pay-per-view boxing economics. The card also features nine bouts, further reinforcing its positioning as a major broadcast event.

Clash of Narratives: Legacy vs. Disruption

Joshua has framed the fight as a defense of traditional boxing standards, acknowledging criticism surrounding his decision to face Paul.

According to the fighters’ pre-fight remarks reported by the Associated Press, Joshua emphasized his responsibility to “carry boxing” and confront what some in the sport view as a challenge to its legitimacy.

Paul, meanwhile, has positioned himself as a transformative figure in the sport, arguing that his influence and promotional reach have expanded boxing’s global audience. He also acknowledged the competitive disadvantage heading into the bout, citing disparities in experience, height, and strength.

Post-Fight Implications and Division Outlook

The result of Friday’s bout carries implications beyond a single matchup. A victory for Joshua would reinforce the established hierarchy in the heavyweight division and potentially reopen pathways toward title contention following his recent loss.

For Paul, a win over a former unified heavyweight champion would mark a significant step in his transition from influencer-driven events to legitimate high-level competition. It would also further complicate ongoing discussions within boxing governance regarding crossover fights and rankings.

Looking Ahead to Career Trajectories

Both fighters enter the bout at pivotal points in their careers. Joshua seeks to rebound from recent setbacks and reestablish momentum within the division, while Paul attempts to validate his claims as a serious competitor against elite opposition.

The outcome at the Kaseya Center is expected to influence future matchmaking decisions, promotional strategies, and the broader conversation around the evolving business model of professional boxing.

The UFC capped 2025 with a run of events that reshaped several divisions, delivered multiple stoppages, and clarified championship pictures heading into the new year. From a decisive flyweight main event in Las Vegas to a title change at bantamweight and a record-setting night at Madison Square Garden, the promotion closed the calendar with sustained momentum.

Across recent Fight Nights and numbered cards, contenders strengthened their cases, prospects announced themselves, and champions either defended their status or saw their reigns end. The results, taken together, offered a snapshot of where the roster stands as 2026 approaches.

Kape stops Royval in flyweight main event

At UFC Fight Night: Royval vs Kape inside the UFC Apex, Manel Kape delivered a first-round stoppage of former title challenger Brandon Royval, reinforcing his position among the flyweight elite.

After a measured opening exchange, Kape landed a right hand that dropped Royval. As Royval attempted to recover along the fence, Kape pressed forward with follow-up strikes, prompting the referee to halt the bout. The win strengthens Kape’s case in a division awaiting clarity around the championship picture.

Elsewhere on the card, Kevin Vallejos earned a notable victory at featherweight by stopping Giga Chikadze in the second round. After a competitive first frame, Vallejos backed Chikadze to the fence with consecutive right hands before landing a spinning backfist that sent him to the canvas. The stoppage marked the first knockout loss of Chikadze’s career.

On the prelims, Steven Asplund and Sean Sharaf produced a high-paced heavyweight contest that concluded in the second round. Asplund’s sustained pressure along the fence led to a referee intervention after a flurry of strikes.

Yan regains bantamweight title at UFC 323

At UFC 323, Petr Yan reclaimed the bantamweight championship with a unanimous decision victory over Merab Dvalishvili. Yan applied steady pressure across five rounds, mixing body work with controlled exchanges to secure his second reign in the division.

The co-main and undercard bouts added further shifts across weight classes. Manuel Torres stopped Grant Dawson in the opening round with a counter left uppercut followed by ground strikes. Iwo Baraniewski recorded a first-round knockout of Ibo Aslan in a brief exchange-heavy bout that ended inside 90 seconds.

The event, staged at Madison Square Garden, drew an announced attendance of 20,664 and generated more than $13.6 million in revenue, ranking among the venue’s highest-grossing combat sports events.

Tsarukyan headlines UFC’s Qatar debut

UFC Fight Night: Tsarukyan vs Hooker marked the promotion’s first event in Doha, Qatar. In the main event, Arman Tsarukyan submitted Dan Hooker in the second round after reversing a grappling exchange and securing the finish.

The victory extended Tsarukyan’s win streak and reinforced his standing near the top of the lightweight division. Waldo Cortes Acosta added to his 2025 campaign with a first-round stoppage of Shamil Gaziev, while Kyoji Horiguchi capped his UFC return with a third-round submission of Tagir Ulanbekov.

On the same card, unbeaten featherweight Luke Riley recorded a second-round knockout in his promotional debut, maintaining his undefeated record.

UFC 322 delivers championship stakes in New York

VeChain UFC 322 at Madison Square Garden featured two high-profile championship matchups. In the welterweight division, Jack Della Maddalena defended his title against former lightweight champion Islam Makhachev in a closely watched contest. The co-main event saw women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko face Zhang Weili in a clash between two of the sport’s most accomplished titleholders.

Among the notable finishes, Carlos Prates stopped former champion Leon Edwards with a second-round knockout, marking the first knockout loss of Edwards’ career. Benoît Saint Denis recorded a 16-second finish of Beneil Dariush in the lightweight division, while Michael Morales secured a first-round TKO over Sean Brady.

Bo Nickal also delivered a third-round head-kick knockout of Rodolfo Vieira, rebounding from an earlier setback in the year and reaffirming his status as a developing middleweight prospect.

Fight Nights in Las Vegas maintain finishing trend

Back-to-back Fight Nights in Las Vegas continued the pattern of decisive outcomes. At UFC Fight Night: Bonfim vs Brown, all five main card bouts ended inside the distance. Gabriel Bonfim finished Randy Brown with a second-round knee, while Josh Hokit and Christian Leroy Duncan each recorded stoppage victories.

Zach Reese secured a comeback finish despite absorbing significant damage early in his bout, underscoring the volatility that defined the evening.

At UFC Fight Night: Garcia vs Onama, Steve Garcia extended his winning streak with a main-event victory over David Onama. Waldo Cortes Acosta added another stoppage win to his résumé, while Allan Nascimento and Donte Johnson each earned submission victories.

UFC 321 ends in No Contest after eye poke

UFC 321 in Abu Dhabi concluded with an anticlimactic main event when an accidental eye poke halted the heavyweight bout between Tom Aspinall and Ciryl Gane in the opening round, resulting in a No Contest. The outcome left the title situation unresolved.

Earlier on the card, Ludovit Klein edged Mateusz Rebecki by majority decision in a competitive lightweight contest. Valter Walker secured a first-round heel hook submission, extending his streak of early finishes, and Quillan Salkilld delivered a first-round head-kick knockout.

A year defined by movement

Taken together, the closing stretch of 2025 reflected both consolidation and change across the UFC landscape. Established names such as Yan regained championship status, while contenders including Kape, Tsarukyan and Vallejos strengthened their positions in crowded divisions.

Multiple events ended with stoppages rather than scorecards, reinforcing the promotion’s emphasis on decisive outcomes. As 2026 approaches, several title pictures remain fluid, particularly at flyweight and heavyweight, where recent results have intensified competition near the top.

With sold-out arenas, international expansion, and shifting championship hierarchies, the UFC enters the new year with momentum built on a series of consequential nights inside the Octagon.

Khamzat Chimaev claimed the UFC middleweight championship on Saturday night at UFC 319 in Chicago, defeating former champion Dricus Du Plessis by unanimous decision. The victory keeps Chimaev undefeated in his professional career and cements his status as one of the sport’s most dominant forces.

Chimaev’s Ground Game Defines the Fight

From the opening bell, Chimaev (15-0) displayed his trademark wrestling and relentless pace. Just seconds into the first round, he took Du Plessis (23-3) to the canvas, controlling nearly the entire frame from top position. Although Du Plessis managed to avoid heavy damage early, the tone was set: Chimaev was going to dictate the fight on the ground.

Through the second and third rounds, Chimaev continued to score takedowns and smother his opponent. By the third round, the champion-in-waiting was landing clean strikes from top control, slowly wearing Du Plessis down.

In the fourth, Chimaev once again executed his game plan flawlessly, maintaining positional dominance and preventing any momentum shift from the South African fighter.

Du Plessis Shows Heart but Falls Short

Despite being outclassed for most of the contest, Du Plessis showed flashes of resilience. In the final round, he managed a late takedown and attempted a guillotine choke, but Chimaev defended well and maintained composure until the closing horn.

After the fight, Chimaev praised his opponent’s toughness:

“That guy is tough to finish. Respect that guy. He was the only champion to say, ‘I’m in.’ This guy has a big heart,” Chimaev said in his post-fight interview.

Du Plessis accepted defeat with grace, acknowledging Chimaev’s superiority on the night:

“At the end, I went for it, had the back. I could almost taste the victory. He beat me fair and square tonight; he was the better man. I’ll be back,” Du Plessis said.

All three judges scored the contest 50-44 in favor of Chimaev, reflecting the challenger’s dominance.

Dana White on Chimaev’s Performance

UFC President Dana White did not mince words when assessing Chimaev’s performance:

“Nobody wants to be in a crucifix getting punched in the head like that. It’s got to be the most frustrating thing, to get dominated on the ground the way he did. It’s no fun for anybody,” White said.

The win gives Chimaev his first UFC title since joining the promotion in 2020, fulfilling years of speculation about his championship potential.

UFC 319: Chicago’s Historic Return

The event marked the UFC’s first return to Chicago in six years and became the highest-grossing card in United Center history, according to the promotion. The atmosphere matched the significance of the night, with fans witnessing multiple highlight-reel finishes across the main card.

Co-Main Event: Lerone Murphy’s Spinning Elbow Stuns Aaron Pico

In the featherweight co-main event, Lerone Murphy (17-0-1) stepped up on just three weeks’ notice and delivered one of the night’s most memorable knockouts. Facing UFC newcomer Aaron Pico (13-5), Murphy survived an early flurry before landing a perfectly timed spinning elbow that ended the fight in the first round.

With the win, Murphy positioned himself as a serious contender for a future title shot against featherweight champion Alex Volkanovski.

Carlos Prates Delivers Rare Knockout Finish

Welterweight contender Carlos Prates (22-7) also produced fireworks, landing the ninth spinning elbow knockout in UFC history against Geoff Neal (16-7). The spectacular finish came in the first round and marked the first time Neal had ever been knocked out.

The victory was especially important for Prates, who bounced back after a tough loss to Ian Machado Garry earlier this year. Dana White later confirmed that Prates would fight again in his home country of Brazil on October 11 in Rio de Janeiro.

Other Main Card Highlights

Michael Page (24-3) scored a unanimous decision victory over Jared Cannonier (19-10), dropping his opponent with a right hand in the opening round before sealing the win with a second-round combination.

Timothy Elliott (22-13-1) pulled off an upset in the flyweight division, submitting Kai Askura (21-6) with a guillotine choke in the second round. Askura had dominated early with striking but could not maintain control once Elliott shifted the fight to the ground.

What’s Next for the New Champion?

Chimaev’s win raises immediate questions about the future of the middleweight division. With Du Plessis defeated, potential challengers such as Sean Strickland, Israel Adesanya, and Jared Cannonier could line up for a shot at the newly crowned champion.

For now, however, Chimaev stands as the undefeated and undisputed UFC Middleweight Champion, fulfilling the promise he carried into the promotion five years ago.

Paramount Secures Exclusive U.S. Rights to UFC Events in Seven-Year Deal With TKO Group

Published Time: 08-12-2025, 14:30

NEW YORK — Paramount will become the exclusive U.S. broadcaster for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) events beginning in 2026, under a landmark seven-year agreement with TKO Group announced Monday. The deal marks a significant shift in UFC’s U.S. distribution strategy, moving away from ESPN’s pay-per-view model toward a more accessible streaming and broadcast approach.

The agreement comes just days after Paramount completed its $8 billion merger with Skydance, creating a major new force in the entertainment industry.

Expanded UFC Access for U.S. Fans

Under the new arrangement, Paramount will distribute all 13 annual UFC numbered events and 30 “Fight Nights” exclusively through its streaming platform, Paramount+. Selected marquee events will also be simulcast on CBS, expanding their reach to a national broadcast audience.

Currently, UFC events are available in the U.S. through a mix of ESPN television broadcasts and ESPN+ streaming subscriptions, often with additional pay-per-view fees for top-tier fights. Starting in 2026, fans will be able to access the entire UFC lineup with a Paramount+ subscription, which currently ranges from $7.99 to $12.99 per month.

David Ellison, chairman and CEO of Paramount, said the deal is a strategic win for the company’s sports portfolio.

“Paramount’s advantage lies in the expansive reach of our linear and streaming platforms,” Ellison stated. “Live sports continue to be a cornerstone of our strategy — driving engagement, subscriber growth, and long-term loyalty. Adding UFC’s year-round must-watch events to our platforms is a major win.”

TKO Group Sees Opportunity for Growth

Mark Shapiro, president and COO of TKO Group, called the deal a major step toward expanding UFC’s U.S. fan base.

“This agreement means deeper engagement for UFC’s passionate audience,” Shapiro said. “Our athletes will love the increased visibility and accessibility this new platform provides.”

TKO Group, which owns both UFC and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), has been actively pursuing major media deals to strengthen its global presence in sports entertainment.

The companies disclosed that the seven-year agreement carries an average annual value of $1.1 billion — roughly double the reported $550 million ESPN currently pays per year for UFC rights. Paramount also expressed interest in exploring UFC broadcasting opportunities outside the U.S. as rights become available.

End of an Era With ESPN

UFC’s current U.S. broadcast partnership with Disney-owned ESPN runs through the end of 2025. Since 2019, ESPN has offered a tiered pricing model combining cable coverage with streaming on ESPN+, often charging separate pay-per-view fees for headline fights.

UFC CEO Dana White welcomed the new arrangement, saying it will make the sport more affordable and accessible for American audiences.

“This deal puts UFC amongst the biggest sports in the world,” White posted on X. “The exposure from Paramount and CBS under this new structure is a huge win for our athletes and anyone who loves this sport.”

Paramount–Skydance Merger Context

The UFC agreement follows the high-profile merger between Paramount and Skydance, finalized after months of negotiations and regulatory review. The $8 billion deal faced political and legal scrutiny, including a July settlement in which Paramount agreed to pay $16 million to then-President Donald Trump to resolve a dispute involving CBS’s “60 Minutes.”

Trump, a longtime friend of UFC’s Dana White, frequently attends UFC events and recently floated the idea of staging a UFC fight at the White House in 2026 to mark the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence.

WWE’s Streaming Future With ESPN

The UFC deal is part of a broader wave of media rights activity for TKO Group. Last week, Disney announced a separate agreement to make ESPN the exclusive U.S. streaming home for WWE’s premium live events starting in 2026.

The five-year deal, reported by The Wall Street Journal to be worth over $1.6 billion, will bring events such as WrestleMania, Royal Rumble, SummerSlam, and Survivor Series to ESPN’s upcoming streaming service, with select events also airing on ESPN’s cable channels.

Financial Impact and Market Reaction

Shares of TKO Group rose more than 7% in midday trading Monday following the UFC announcement, signaling investor optimism about the company’s expanded media partnerships.

For Paramount, the move aligns with its push to grow Paramount+ subscriptions and compete in the increasingly competitive live sports streaming market. For UFC, the deal represents both a financial boost and a chance to further entrench the sport in mainstream U.S. viewership.

A five-round battle closes Poirier’s UFC career as Holloway wins by unanimous decision

Max Holloway Defeats Dustin Poirier in Emotional UFC 318 Main Event

In an unforgettable night at UFC 318, Max Holloway defeated Dustin Poirier by unanimous decision, ending Poirier’s legendary career on a high note—even if not with a win. The fight took place in Poirier’s home state of Louisiana, making the moment even more emotional for fans and fighters alike.

Holloway, a former UFC featherweight champion, came out on top after five action-packed rounds, earning the judges’ scores of 48-47, 49-46, and 49-46. The fight not only closed out a personal trilogy between the two but also served as the latest defense of Holloway’s BMF (Baddest Motherf***er) title.

A Trilogy Ends with Respect and Fireworks

This was the third time Holloway and Poirier met in the Octagon. Poirier had won their first two fights, but Holloway flipped the script this time around.

Both fighters are known for their striking, and they gave fans exactly what they expected—nonstop action on the feet. Holloway knocked Poirier down in the first round and looked close to finishing him again in the second. But Poirier came back strong, nearly locking in a guillotine choke that shifted the energy in the arena.

The momentum continued to swing throughout the fight. Holloway’s speed and volume gave him the edge in the middle rounds, but Poirier kept pushing forward, trying to turn the tide in the fifth. With just seconds left, Holloway called Poirier into the center of the Octagon for a final exchange, showing why both men are considered fan favorites.

Holloway Pays Tribute, Then Hands the Spotlight to Poirier

After the decision was announced, Holloway gave a quick and humble interview. He apologized to the Louisiana crowd for beating their hometown hero and used the moment to invite future challengers to step up for the BMF belt.

But then he stepped aside to let Poirier have his moment. When the crowd didn’t cheer loudly enough, Holloway called them out, urging more applause for Poirier—and they delivered.

Poirier Reflects on a Career of Impact

Fighting back tears, Poirier took the mic to share how deeply touched he felt during his final week as a UFC fighter.

“It’s been overwhelming, honestly. I feel appreciated, I feel seen. I didn’t know I touched as many people as I did just by chasing my dreams,” he said.

The UFC played a tribute video that moved Poirier to tears. Following tradition, he removed his gloves and left them in the Octagon before walking out to Frank Sinatra’s “My Way.” He took his time exiting, hugging team members, staff, and fellow fighters—marking the end of a remarkable MMA journey.

UFC 318 Main Card Results

What’s Next?

With Holloway’s win, he strengthens his case in the lightweight division while continuing to defend the BMF title. He also hinted at a possible showdown with new lightweight champion Ilia Topuria.

As for Poirier, the night marked the end of a storied career filled with heart, grit, and unforgettable fights. Though he didn’t get the fairytale ending, the standing ovation, tribute video, and love from the crowd proved just how much he’s meant to the sport.

Poirier may be stepping away from the cage, but his impact will be felt for years to come.

UFC 317 Predictions: Best Bets, Smart Picks, and Sleeper Value Heading Into International Fight Week

The biggest MMA event of the summer is here—UFC 317 touches down in Las Vegas this Saturday to cap off International Fight Week with a stacked card and two major title fights. From rising contenders to proven champions, there’s no shortage of action—or betting intrigue—on the main card.

Whether you’re looking to lock in a wager or just get a better feel for what’s at stake, we’ve broken down the five main card matchups with smart plays and odds (via DraftKings) to guide your picks. Let’s dive in.

Main Event: Ilia Topuria vs. Charles Oliveira

Pick: Charles Oliveira moneyline (+350)

This one’s all about value. Yes, Ilia Topuria is the rightful favorite. He’s undefeated, explosive, and moving up in weight after vacating the featherweight belt. But this is Charles Oliveira—the most prolific finisher in UFC history—we’re talking about, and he’s being offered at +350?

Sure, Oliveira has taken some damage lately (notably losses to Islam Makhachev and a razor-thin decision to Arman Tsarukyan), but that’s no reason to count him out. If this fight goes to the mat, or even if it just becomes a war of attrition, Oliveira has the tools to shock Topuria. At these odds, betting on the underdog isn’t just a gamble—it’s smart value.

Alternative angle: Topuria by KO/TKO/DQ at -175 if you’re backing the favorite.

Co-Main Event: Alexandre Pantoja vs. Kai Kara-France (Flyweight Title Bout)

Pick: Alexandre Pantoja moneyline (-238)

Pantoja isn’t just the reigning flyweight champ—he’s one of the most dominant fighters in the division’s history. With wins over most of the 125-pound elite, his mix of relentless pressure, takedowns, and submission threats has made him a nightmare to prepare for.

Kara-France is dangerous on the feet and comes in with heavy hands, but he’s 1-2 in his last three and hasn’t faced a grappler on Pantoja’s level. Unless Kara-France lands something fight-ending, this feels like another dominant performance for the champ.

Bonus stat: Pantoja averages 2.74 takedowns per 15 minutes, and Kara-France’s 88% takedown defense might not hold up against that volume.

Brandon Royval vs. Joshua Van

Pick: Brandon Royval +3.5 point spread (-200)
(Alternate value: Royval moneyline -102)

Joshua Van is just 23 but already showing huge promise. He’s on a four-fight win streak with a recent TKO just three weeks ago—a lightning-fast turnaround. But now he’s facing Royval, a veteran with a deep résumé and only three UFC losses, all to current or former champs.

Royval’s unorthodox striking and experience give him the edge in a fast-paced fight. The +3.5 spread bet covers you if Royval wins or even if he loses a competitive decision. He’s too good to be blown out.

Beneil Dariush vs. Renato Moicano

Pick: Fight to NOT go the distance (-165)

This is one of those “something’s got to give” matchups. Dariush, once a top contender, has been knocked out in back-to-back fights. Moicano, meanwhile, has been quietly climbing with a dangerous ground game and underrated striking.

Both men are extremely capable—but also extremely vulnerable. Dariush has been finished six times, Moicano five. That’s a recipe for fireworks, and it’s hard to see this one going all three rounds.

Payton Talbott vs. Felipe Lima

Pick: Payton Talbott +3.5 point spread (-150)

Talbott got humbled in January as a -1050 favorite when he was outwrestled by Raoni Barcelos. But don’t jump off the hype train just yet. He’s still a talented striker with a high ceiling, and every round starts on the feet—a good place for him to shine.

Lima will try to replicate Barcelos’ game plan and grind out a win on the mat. But we like Talbott to keep it close, possibly even take a round. The +3.5 spread gives you cover in case he loses on the cards but doesn’t get dominated.

Quick Recap of Picks

Oliveira (+350) — Too much value to ignore against Topuria

Pantoja (-238) — The champ should roll, especially if it hits the mat

Royval +3.5 (-200) — Veteran savvy vs. fast-rising prospect

Dariush vs. Moicano: Fight doesn’t go the distance (-165)

Talbott +3.5 (-150) — Bet on the bounce-back with room for error

Jon Jones Retires, Crowning Tom Aspinall as UFC Heavyweight Champion and Ending a Prolonged Saga

It’s official: Jon Jones is out, and Tom Aspinall is in.

UFC president Dana White confirmed Saturday night that Jones has retired from mixed martial arts, finally bringing an end to one of the most dragged-out standoffs in recent UFC history. The announcement came after the promotion’s card in Baku, where White told reporters, “Jon Jones called us last night and retired. Jon Jones is officially retired. Tom Aspinall is the heavyweight champion of the UFC.”

And just like that, the interim label is gone. Aspinall is now the undisputed heavyweight champion — but the road to get here was anything but straightforward.

A Retirement Months in the Making

In reality, Jones had one foot out the door for months. After dominating the UFC light heavyweight scene for over a decade, “Bones” made the move to heavyweight in 2023, winning the vacant title against Ciryl Gane after Francis Ngannou left the promotion. That victory was supposed to launch a new chapter in his storied career.

The UFC immediately lined up a legacy matchup between Jones and former champ Stipe Miocic — a clash of titans on paper. But when Miocic got injured, the bout was postponed again and again. Meanwhile, Tom Aspinall was tearing through the rest of the division, clearly earning his shot at the title.

Instead, Jones eventually fought Miocic in November 2024 and dispatched him with ease. Aspinall, sidelined from the title picture despite winning and defending an interim belt — something rarely done — had already beaten Sergei Pavlovich and Curtis Blaydes. Fans and pundits alike agreed: Jones vs. Aspinall was the fight to make.

A Championship Game of Hide-and-Seek

But Jones never seemed eager to make that fight happen. Months passed. No contract. No training updates. Just social media posts of Jones enjoying life, while Aspinall waited — and waited — growing more vocal and frustrated.

Jones dismissed talk that he was dodging the younger, hungrier contender. But let’s call it what it was: ducking. The UFC enabled it, with Dana White repeatedly backing Jones and allowing the division to stall. Even earlier this month, White teased that a fight might finally be coming together.

Instead, Jones disappeared from the title picture with a quiet phone call — the MMA equivalent of an Irish goodbye.

So, What’s Next for Aspinall?

Now officially the champion, Aspinall is expected to get his first true title defense lined up quickly. The 31-year-old Brit has already taken out most of the top contenders — including Pavlovich, Blaydes, and Alexander Volkov — which makes Ciryl Gane the most logical opponent on paper.

However the matchmaking plays out, this moment marks the beginning of a new era in the UFC heavyweight division. Aspinall has all the tools to be a dominant, long-reigning champ — but his rise will always be marked by a frustrating, awkward handoff of the crown.

And for Jon Jones? For all the greatness he achieved inside the cage, his final chapter may be remembered not for a triumphant send-off, but for the fight he never took.

UFC 316 Recap: Dvalishvili vs. O’Malley 2 – A Night of Redemption, Dominance, and Rising Stars

Live from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, UFC 316 delivered in every way — from brutal knockouts to jaw-dropping submissions. Headlined by two blockbuster title fights, this stacked card kept fans on the edge of their seats all night.

Main Event: Dvalishvili Silences the Hype Again

(C) Merab Dvalishvili vs. Sean O’Malley
UFC bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili (19-4) once again proved he has Sean O’Malley’s number. In their highly anticipated rematch, Dvalishvili defended his title in dominant fashion, shutting down the flashy striker’s offense with relentless pressure and grappling.

It’s his second title defense in 2025 and a performance that further cements his place atop the 135-pound mountain. For O’Malley (18-2, 1 NC), it’s back to the drawing board.

Co-Main Event: Peña Holds Off the Storm

(C) Julianna Peña vs. Kayla Harrison
In her toughest test yet, two-time champ Julianna Peña (13-5) stood her ground against Olympic judoka and rising contender Kayla Harrison (18-1).

The bout was a gritty battle between Peña’s scrappy volume and Harrison’s powerhouse grappling. In the end, Peña dug deep and did just enough to earn a hard-fought decision, silencing critics and holding onto her bantamweight belt.

Main Card Highlights

Mario Bautista Hands Patchy Mix First UFC Loss

Result: Bautista def. Mix via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)

Mario Bautista extended his win streak to eight in a clinical performance against the debuting Patchy Mix. From the opening bell, Bautista was sharp, slick, and in control, out-landing Mix and exploiting defensive holes.

This was a big statement for Bautista, especially after his controversial win over Jose Aldo. Beating a former Bellator champ this decisively could finally earn him a top-tier name next.

Kevin Holland Submits Luque With His Own Move

Result: Holland def. Luque via Submission (D’arce choke) – Round 2, 1:03

Kevin Holland pulled off one of the night’s most poetic finishes, tapping Vicente Luque with a D’arce choke — Luque’s signature submission. After landing a nasty elbow in Round 1, Holland capitalized in Round 2, taking Luque down and locking in the choke.

That’s back-to-back wins for “Trailblazer,” who seems back in form after a rocky start to the year.

More Main Card and Prelim Results

Joshua Van def. Bruno Silva via TKO (strikes), Round 3, 4:01

Azamat Murzakanov def. Brendson Ribeiro via TKO (strikes), Round 1, 3:25

Waldo Cortes-Acosta def. Serghei Spivac via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

Andreas Gustafsson def. Khaos Williams via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-26, 30-26)

Wang Cong def. Ariane da Silva via Unanimous Decision (30-27 across the board)

JooSang Yoo def. Jeka Saragih via KO (left hook), Round 1, 0:28

Quillan Salkilld def. Yanal Ashmouz via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

MarQuel Mederos def. Mark Choinski via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

How to Watch the Replay

If you missed the action, you can still catch all the fights:

Main Card Replay: Available on ESPN+ PPV

Prelims & Early Prelims: Stream on ESPN, ESPN Deportes, and UFC Fight Pass

Final Word

UFC 316 wasn’t just a night of fights — it was a showcase of what makes this sport so compelling: heart, grit, and unforgettable moments. Dvalishvili continues his reign, Peña holds the line, and rising names like Bautista and Holland make serious moves up the ladder.

Keep an eye on these fighters — the second half of 2025 is already looking wild.

Rising MMA Star Ibragim Ibragimov Extends Undefeated Streak With Help From Dagestani Legends

At just 20 years old, Ibragim Ibragimov is quickly becoming one of MMA’s most talked-about rising stars. His recent victory over Kenny Mokhonoana brought his professional record to a perfect 9-0—but the young fighter is quick to credit his success to the team behind him.

After the fight, Ibragimov took to Instagram to share a photo with his elite training crew in Dubai, which notably included MMA legends Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev. With those two icons guiding him, it’s no surprise Ibragimov’s career is skyrocketing.

Ibragimov is part of a new generation of fighters hailing from Dagestan, a small republic in Russia that’s earned global respect for producing some of MMA’s toughest athletes. Despite a population of just over three million, Dagestan has become a factory for elite-level fighters known for their wrestling grit, discipline, and relentless drive.

“In Dagestan, guys really want to be fighters,” Ibragimov told CNN Sports. “In Europe, a lot of guys just want the hype. But where I’m from, we live for this.”

According to Michael Lyubimov, general manager at the famed Jackson Wink MMA Academy, many Dagestani fighters are shaped by poverty and hardship from a young age.

“Most of them have been fighting since they were six,” Lyubimov shared. “By the time they get to the U.S., they’ve already had hundreds of fights under their belt.”

He recalled the story of Ismail Israilov, a Chechen fighter who recently won a bout after dislocating his shoulder. Israilov grew up fighting on the streets and training on pavement. For him and many others, fighting wasn’t a sport—it was survival.

The Dagestani culture, according to Lyubimov, is steeped in respect, discipline, and faith. Most fighters abstain from drinking or partying, instead devoting themselves entirely to their craft.

“In Dagestan, if Khabib or his father walked into a gym, everyone stands, everyone shows respect,” said Lyubimov. “You don’t talk back to elders. If you do, your peers will check you.”

This strict environment creates mentally tough athletes who don’t fold under pressure. Lyubimov says many will hide injuries just to sign contracts, delaying treatment until after they’ve secured a fight deal.

Khabib Nurmagomedov paved the way. The former UFC champion, known for his humility and dominance, became a global icon—especially after his explosive rivalry with Conor McGregor. Since retiring in 2020, Khabib has turned to coaching, mentoring the next wave of Dagestani stars, including current UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev.

Magomed Ankalaev also recently made headlines by becoming UFC light heavyweight champion, further cementing Dagestan’s dominance in the sport.

Training under Khabib and Makhachev in Dubai, Ibragimov says the intensity is next level. “Sometimes Khabib doesn’t even set a timer—we just keep rolling until he says stop,” he said.

Now based in Manchester, England, Ibragimov has not only elite mentors but also a roadmap to success already laid out by the legends before him.

“They already showed us the road we have to follow,” he said.

As his star continues to rise, Ibragimov is not just chasing victory—he’s carrying the pride of Dagestan with him into every fight.
