The death of Agnes, widely known online as “Epic Gamer Grandma,” has prompted tributes from across the gaming and creator ecosystem after the 78-year-old Scottish TikTok personality died following months of health complications, according to statements shared by her family. Best known for gameplay clips featuring titles such as Minecraft, Skyrim, and Phasmophobia, Agnes built an audience of more than 2.4 million followers on TikTok, becoming an unlikely but influential figure in gaming’s broader digital culture.

Her passing matters beyond social media celebrity: Agnes became an example of how gaming platforms and short-form video ecosystems continue to broaden demographic participation, reinforcing industry trends around accessibility, community-led discovery, and creator-driven engagement.

Creator Legacy Extends Beyond Traditional Gaming Audiences

Agnes, from Dunfermline in Scotland, rose to prominence through straightforward gaming videos that emphasized humor, curiosity, and authentic reactions rather than competitive spectacle. Her content frequently featured mainstream sandbox and survival titles, helping publishers benefit from long-tail visibility driven by creator communities rather than formal marketing campaigns.

Her grandson, identified in reports as Culsans or Dylan in family statements, confirmed that she died peacefully on December 21 while surrounded by relatives. The family said her recent health decline followed worsening chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and a major stroke suffered in October.

From an industry perspective, her success highlighted how user-generated gaming content continues to reach audiences far outside core player demographics, a valuable dynamic for publishers seeking durable engagement cycles.

Gaming Content as a Cross-Generational Growth Driver

Agnes’s rise reflected a broader market shift in which gaming content increasingly functions as entertainment-first media, not solely as gameplay documentation. Her videos attracted younger audiences while also challenging long-held assumptions that gaming platforms primarily serve teenagers and young adults.

That wider appeal aligns with ongoing platform strategies from TikTok, YouTube, and livestreaming services, where discoverability algorithms reward personality-driven gaming clips capable of crossing into mainstream culture. For publishers, such creator ecosystems can materially extend the commercial lifespan of evergreen titles like Minecraft and Skyrim.

The case also underscores how gaming culture’s expansion now includes older creators whose authenticity strengthens community trust and retention metrics—an increasingly important factor in platform competition.

Broader Industry and Platform Implications

The tributes surrounding Agnes’s death point to gaming’s continued evolution into a socially inclusive entertainment layer spanning age groups, regions, and skill levels. While not tied to a specific studio or platform announcement, her influence demonstrates the value of creator-led ecosystem growth for both legacy game titles and short-form content platforms.

For the wider games business, her story reinforced a measurable trend: community resonance often outlasts conventional release cycles, especially when titles benefit from organic rediscovery through creators with distinctive identities.

As gaming companies continue to invest in creator partnerships, social integrations, and community tools, Agnes’s legacy stands as a reminder that audience expansion increasingly comes from unexpected voices.

Roblox Strengthens Child Safety with Mandatory Age Checks

Roblox, one of the world’s largest online gaming platforms, is rolling out mandatory age verification to prevent children from chatting with adults. The platform aims to enhance safety, comply with global regulations, and provide age-appropriate online experiences for millions of users under 18.

New Safety Measures Across Regions

Starting in December, Roblox will introduce compulsory age checks for accounts that use chat features in Australia, New Zealand, and the Netherlands. The measures will expand worldwide in January 2026.

The platform has faced ongoing criticism and legal action over children accessing inappropriate content and interacting with adults. Several U.S. states, including Texas, Kentucky, and Louisiana, have filed lawsuits citing child safety concerns.

Roblox CEO Dave Baszucki told the BBC that parents concerned about online risks should carefully monitor their children’s activity on the platform.

Industry and Regulatory Context

These changes arrive as governments increase oversight of digital platforms. Australia is considering a ban on social media for under-16s, which may extend to gaming platforms such as Roblox. Meanwhile, the UK’s Online Safety Act imposes strict obligations on tech firms to protect children online.

Anna Lucas, online safety supervision director at Ofcom, emphasized the importance of the new age verification system. “Platforms must now take steps to keep kids safe, and we’re ensuring they meet their responsibilities,” she said. “There’s more to do, but change is happening.”

How Age Verification Works

Roblox will become the first major gaming platform to require facial age estimation for accessing chat features. The technology, built into the Roblox app, estimates users’ ages using the device camera. Images are processed by an external provider and deleted immediately after verification, according to the company.

Users who complete the verification process are placed into age groups: under nine, 9–12, 13–15, 16–17, 18–20, and 21+. Chat interactions are restricted to users in the same age bracket unless they are added as “trusted connections,” which is limited to people known personally.

Children under 13 will remain blocked from private messages and certain chat functions without parental consent. Roblox already limits image and video sharing in chats and restricts links to external sites to prevent potential risks.

Addressing Existing Risks

Previously, Roblox users could circumvent age restrictions, raising safety concerns. In a BBC test earlier this year, a 27-year-old and a 15-year-old on separate devices were able to exchange messages. Roblox acknowledged that users sometimes move conversations to external platforms, highlighting the need for stronger safeguards.

Rani Govender, policy manager for child safety online at the NSPCC, welcomed the platform’s new measures but urged continued vigilance. “Young people are exposed to unacceptable risks on Roblox, leaving many vulnerable to harm and online abuse,” she said. “The platform must ensure these changes prevent adult perpetrators from targeting children in practice.”

Parental Control and Privacy

Parents will continue to manage their child’s account, including updating age information after verification. Roblox states that the new system will allow for more “age-appropriate experiences” across the platform and hopes the approach sets a precedent for other tech companies.

Matt Kaufman, Roblox’s chief safety officer, said the facial age estimation technology is accurate within one to two years for users aged five to 25.

Campaigns and Community Action

The platform’s changes coincide with virtual protests organized by advocacy groups ParentsTogether Action and UltraViolet. The campaign staged a first-of-its-kind demonstration within Roblox, delivering a digital petition signed by over 12,000 supporters demanding stronger child safety measures.

The groups called for sweeping reforms, warning that “Roblox must stop being a playground for predators.”

Global User Base

Roblox maintains more than 80 million daily active users in 2024, roughly 40% under the age of 13. By strengthening age verification and restricting adult contact, the platform aims to safeguard younger players while complying with international regulations and growing parental expectations.

Published: October 17, 2025, 22:30 EDT

The newly released Escape from Duckov, a quirky top-down looter shooter developed by Team Soda and published by Bilibili, has taken Steam by storm. Combining humor with the intensity of tactical survival gameplay, the title draws clear inspiration from the genre-defining Escape from Tarkov while offering a fresh and comedic twist.

Escape from Duckov’s Impressive Launch Performance

The game officially launched on October 16, immediately gaining traction among players and streamers. According to data from SteamDB, Escape from Duckov reached nearly 35,000 concurrent players on its first day — a remarkable achievement for Team Soda, which has only two previous titles on Valve’s platform.

Early reviews from critics place the game at 73 out of 100 on OpenCritic, while its Steam page reflects a “Very Positive” player rating, highlighting widespread community enthusiasm. The game’s accessible mechanics, fast-paced combat, and tongue-in-cheek humor appear to have struck a chord with both casual gamers and looter-shooter veterans.

A Satirical Spin on the Extraction Shooter Formula

While Escape from Tarkov revolutionized the looter-shooter genre through realistic mechanics and high-stakes extraction gameplay, Escape from Duckov adopts a more playful tone. Players control a cartoonish soldier — portrayed as a duck — who must scavenge across a vast, hostile world to survive.

Despite its comedic premise, the game maintains a deep progression system centered on crafting, survival, and exploration. Each mission, or “expedition,” unfolds dynamically, featuring randomized loot, unpredictable enemies, and shifting weather patterns. According to developer Team Soda, these procedural elements provide over 50 hours of unique gameplay, ensuring that “no two expeditions are the same.”

In between missions, players can return to their customizable base of operations, where they craft weapons, upgrade equipment, and strategize future runs. The blend of light-hearted visuals and serious tactical depth gives Escape from Duckov a distinctive place within the extraction shooter market.

Community Response and Market Reception

The enthusiastic player response underscores how indie developers continue to innovate within the looter-shooter space. Many gamers have praised Escape from Duckov for balancing intensity with humor, a contrast to the gritty realism of its predecessors.

Streamers and YouTubers have also contributed to its viral success. Clips of chaotic firefights, comedic duck antics, and unexpected encounters have circulated widely on platforms like Twitch, X (formerly Twitter), and YouTube. This organic buzz has helped push Escape from Duckov into Steam’s trending charts within just 24 hours of launch.

Affordable Entry Point for New Players

Priced at $18 USD, Escape from Duckov is positioned as an accessible entry into the extraction shooter genre. To celebrate its debut, Bilibili is currently offering a 12% launch discount, bringing the price down to roughly $15 USD until October 30.

The promotion, combined with the game’s strong word-of-mouth marketing, has fueled its rapid adoption. For fans of titles like Tarkov, Helldivers 2, and Risk of Rain, the new release offers a refreshing blend of survival mechanics and irreverent humor.

Innovation and the Future of Indie Looter Shooters

While Escape from Duckov clearly draws from established mechanics, it also reflects a broader trend in the gaming industry: the rise of humor-driven indie experiences that subvert expectations. By embracing satire and stylized art, developers like Team Soda are expanding what looter shooters can represent — not just military realism, but also creativity and absurdity.

Analysts note that this combination of familiar gameplay with a unique tone could help Escape from Duckov maintain momentum in a competitive market. As the player base grows, updates and community-driven content may further solidify its position as one of the most talked-about indie titles of 2025.

For now, the game’s launch marks an important moment for both its creators and the genre at large — proving that even in a world of gritty realism, there’s room for a duck with a mission.

Sonic the Hedgehog, Sega’s iconic blue mascot, has been speeding across screens for more than three decades. Once at the heart of a fierce rivalry with Nintendo, Sonic now exists in a gaming world dominated by live-service titles and modern franchises. Sega’s latest release, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, reflects both a nod to history and an embrace of new industry trends.

When asked about the company’s strategy, Sonic Team leader Takashi Iizuka emphasized innovation over nostalgia, while industry analysts suggested Sega is carefully balancing playful competition with modern expectations.

From Rivalry to Playful Competition

In the 1990s, Sega branded itself with the memorable slogan “Sega does what Nintendon’t,” during a period when the rivalry between Sega and Nintendo was at its height. At the time, Sonic and Mario symbolized two competing visions of gaming.

Today, the rivalry has softened. Sonic titles are now playable on Nintendo consoles, and the two mascots even share the stage in crossover games. Yet recent marketing has sparked speculation that Sega is reviving the old rivalry. The promotional campaign for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds echoed a 1992 Sega advertisement that boldly compared itself to Nintendo, while comments made at Summer Game Fest were seen as indirect jabs at Mario Kart.

Iizuka, however, declined to name competitors directly. “I didn’t call out any specific title, and there are a lot of racing games out there,” he told BBC Newsbeat.

Industry Observers See Strategy, Not Feud

According to Chris Dring, editor-in-chief of The Games Business, Sega’s approach appears more strategic than confrontational. He noted that CrossWorlds, available across multiple platforms, will likely see its strongest sales on Nintendo Switch—a testament to the platform’s dominance in family-friendly racing games.

“Sega is clearly confident in its new release, but there is an element of leveraging Mario Kart’s popularity,” Dring explained. “The Sonic versus Mario conversation very much benefits Sonic.”

This playful rivalry, he added, draws attention to Sonic without requiring Sega to directly challenge Nintendo’s franchise leader.

Competing in the Age of Live-Service Games

Beyond brand rivalry, Sega faces the broader challenge of maintaining relevance in an industry dominated by live-service titles such as Fortnite, Roblox, and Call of Duty. These games keep players engaged through constantly updated content, often holding audiences for years.

To adapt, Sega has built live-service elements into CrossWorlds. The title will feature monthly updates, a rotating cast of characters, and an optional season pass for additional content. “The goal is to refresh the game every month and make it a fun experience to constantly come back to,” Iizuka said.

Dring agreed that the strategy reflects modern development realities. “Video games can now take five years or more to create,” he noted. “Rolling content drops are an effective way to maintain interest once the initial hype fades.”

Engaging the Next Generation of Players

Introducing Sonic to younger audiences remains central to Sega’s long-term strategy. Beyond traditional releases, the franchise has reached new platforms in unexpected ways. One of the most popular recent Sonic experiences was a playable game within Roblox, exposing the character to millions of younger players.

Coupled with successful film adaptations, these projects serve as entry points into the Sonic universe. “It’s about getting younger players familiar with Sonic and then bringing them into mainline games like CrossWorlds,” Dring explained.

This approach highlights Sega’s willingness to embrace cultural shifts while maintaining Sonic as a recognizable global brand.

Why Remakes Are Not the Priority

With the growing popularity of remakes and remasters across the gaming industry, many longtime fans have expressed hope for a revival of the Sonic Adventure series, which introduced the character’s first 3D outings. However, Iizuka has indicated that Sonic Team is not prioritizing remakes.

“Instead of using all that time and energy to remake a game people have already experienced, we could make a brand-new game,” he said. He emphasized that new technology allows developers to build richer, more complex worlds that better reflect modern expectations.

Sega’s decision mirrors its broader approach to legacy franchises. Rather than remaking older games, the company is investing in revivals of dormant series such as Crazy Taxi, Golden Axe, and Jet Set Radio. Recent releases, including Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, have been well-received by critics, demonstrating that the strategy can appeal to both nostalgia and innovation.

Balancing Past and Future

While Iizuka’s comments suggest remakes are not a priority for Sonic Team, observers note that Sega has a long history of re-releasing classic titles. Dring suggested outsourcing could be an option if the company chose to pursue remakes without diverting its core development team.

“There are plenty of talented Sonic fans and developers who could do it justice,” he said. Still, Sega seems intent on ensuring it is seen as a forward-looking company rather than one reliant solely on its past.

“The balance is about doing new things while respecting the old,” Dring explained. “That’s how Sega keeps itself relevant in an evolving industry.”

Looking Ahead

As Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds launches into a competitive marketplace, Sega is betting on a mix of nostalgia, innovation, and live-service mechanics to keep its franchise fresh. The company’s strategy reflects a recognition that Sonic cannot thrive on legacy alone—it must continue evolving to resonate with both veteran fans and new generations of players.

Whether through playful rivalries with Mario, expanding into platforms like Roblox, or introducing ongoing content updates, Sega’s approach illustrates the challenges and opportunities of sustaining a character who has been part of gaming culture for more than 30 years.

Louisiana Files Lawsuit Against Roblox Citing Child Safety Concerns

Published Time: 08-15-2025, 16:30

Louisiana has filed a lawsuit against the online gaming platform Roblox, accusing the popular service of failing to protect children from online predators. The legal action highlights growing concerns over safety on platforms widely used by minors.

Attorney General Liz Murrill argues that Roblox has not implemented effective safeguards, allowing predators to exploit the platform’s vast user base. The lawsuit claims the company prioritizes growth and revenue over the safety of children.

Allegations of Unsafe Environment for Minors

Filed in Louisiana state court on Thursday, the lawsuit states that Roblox has created a digital space where sexual predators “thrive, unite, hunt and victimize kids.” Murrill’s office asserts that the platform’s inadequate safety protocols have endangered the state’s children.

“Due to Roblox’s lack of safety protocols, it endangers the safety of the children of Louisiana,” Murrill said in a news release. “Roblox is overrun with harmful content and child predators because it prioritizes user growth, revenue, and profits over child safety.”

The company has faced similar lawsuits nationwide. In Iowa last month, a case alleged that a 13-year-old girl met an adult predator on Roblox, who then allegedly kidnapped and trafficked her across multiple states, resulting in sexual assault.

Local Law Enforcement Reports Cases Linked to Roblox

In Louisiana, Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard confirmed that his office has investigated multiple incidents involving Roblox. One case involved an adult allegedly using voice-altering technology to pose as a child. No arrests have yet been made in relation to the platform, according to Ard.

Attorney General Murrill emphasized that Roblox’s design and policies make it difficult to ensure child safety, and she has called for the platform to be shut down unless adequate protections are implemented.

An email seeking comment was sent to Roblox on Thursday.

Roblox’s Popularity and Platform Features

Roblox is a free online gaming platform boasting over 111 million monthly users. Its website describes it as “the ultimate virtual universe that lets you create, share experiences with friends, and be anything you can imagine.”

The platform restricts users from sharing images or videos in chats and attempts to block personal information such as phone numbers. Children under 13 are restricted from chatting outside of games unless parental permission is granted. Despite these measures, experts say users often find ways to bypass safeguards.

Roblox states on its website that it has “a zero-tolerance policy for the exploitation of minors” and monitors private chats for compliance. However, Attorney General Murrill contends that there is no effective age verification process, meaning young children, teens, and adults posing as children can easily sign up.

Recent Safety Measures and Age Verification

Roblox has recently introduced new features to improve child safety. The platform is testing an age verification system requiring teenagers aged 13 to 17 to submit a video selfie to verify their age if they wish to chat freely with trusted friends. This feature is part of Roblox’s “trusted connections” initiative.

In addition, the company has deployed an artificial intelligence system designed to detect early signs of possible child exploitation, including inappropriate or sexually explicit language. According to Roblox, the AI system led to 1,200 reports of potential child exploitation to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in the first half of 2025.

Despite these efforts, critics like Murrill argue that the measures are insufficient, pointing to the platform’s massive user base and previous incidents as evidence that children remain at risk.

Broader Implications for Online Safety

The Louisiana lawsuit is part of a growing national focus on online safety for minors. Experts warn that gaming and social platforms with large audiences of children face unique challenges in monitoring interactions and preventing exploitation.

Roblox, widely used by children and teenagers, sits at the center of this debate. The platform’s combination of creative freedom, social interaction, and a large user base makes it a prime target for regulators concerned about online child protection.

What Comes Next

The case will proceed in Louisiana state court, with potential implications for how Roblox and similar platforms implement safety measures. Regulators and lawmakers are increasingly scrutinizing digital platforms, balancing the benefits of online interaction with the urgent need to protect minors.

If the court sides with Louisiana, Roblox could face substantial legal obligations, including stricter age verification, enhanced monitoring, and additional protections to prevent predator activity.

Published Time: 08-11-2025, 16:45

Bithell Games, an independent video game developer renowned for Thomas Was Alone and John Wick: Hex, has announced major layoffs, affecting most of its full-time employees. The reductions come as the studio struggles to secure funding for a new large-scale project. Despite the staff cuts, Bithell Games confirmed that support for its current self-published titles will continue uninterrupted.

Funding Challenges Lead to Staff Reductions

In a transparent statement posted on Bluesky, studio founder Mike Bithell revealed that eleven full-time positions were made redundant due to difficulties securing investment partners for an upcoming ambitious game.

“Leading up to the release of our latest title, Tron: Catalyst, it became evident that we were not immune to the funding challenges many game developers face in 2024 and 2025,” Bithell explained.

He acknowledged the emotional and professional toll of the decision, stressing the studio’s efforts to provide severance packages and open communication to support the departing staff. “This was an incredible team of exceptionally talented people,” Bithell added, highlighting their contributions.

Impact on Existing Games and Studio Operations

Bithell reassured players and fans that the layoffs would not disrupt access to or support for the studio’s existing games. Titles such as Thomas Was Alone, Tron: Identity, John Wick: Hex, and The Banished Vault remain fully supported and available to the community.

“Our commitment to our current games and their players remains strong despite these difficult changes,” Bithell emphasized.

Staff Perspectives: A Senior Animator’s Reflection

Among those affected by the layoffs is Rich Stubbs, a senior animator at Bithell Games. On LinkedIn, Stubbs shared his sentiments, expressing pride in his work, especially his role as the sole animator on a Disney-affiliated project.

“Like many in the industry today, I have been made redundant,” Stubbs wrote.

He described his tenure at Bithell Games as “a genuinely great ride” and considers his contributions a source of pride. “Being the sole animator on a Disney project is a badge of honour I will wear with immense pride,” Stubbs said.

He also extended heartfelt thanks and respect to his colleagues and the studio for the opportunities and experiences over the years.

Bithell Games: A History of Innovation

Founded in 2013 after the success of Thomas Was Alone, Bithell Games has gained recognition for its narrative-driven indie titles and creative approach to game design. The studio’s portfolio includes Tron: Identity, a story-rich adventure, and John Wick: Hex, a tactical action game.

The recent layoffs at Bithell Games mirror a broader trend within the video game industry, where many independent developers face funding difficulties amid changing market conditions in 2024 and 2025.

Battlefield 6 Beta Surges to Record-Breaking Numbers on Steam

Written on: August 7, 2025, 14:00 (U.S. Time)

The open beta for Battlefield 6 has rapidly climbed the Steam charts, drawing over 300,000 concurrent players within hours of launch. With this surge, the game has become the most-played Battlefield title on Steam and the platform’s 44th most-played title of all time.

Battlefield 6 Overtakes Previous Franchise Records

Battlefield 6 has officially become the most successful Battlefield title on Steam based on concurrent player counts during its open beta. According to data from SteamDB, the game reached a peak of 308,310 concurrent players just hours after the beta became available. This milestone not only places it above all previous Battlefield entries but also ranks it as the 44th most-played game on Steam by concurrent users.

This achievement marks a significant leap over Battlefield 2042, which peaked at 156,665 players during its own open beta. Even at full launch, Battlefield 2042 only reached 107,376 concurrent players—well below what Battlefield 6 has accomplished within its first day of beta testing.

A New Era for Battlefield on Steam

One contributing factor to Battlefield 6‘s Steam success is Electronic Arts’ relatively recent return to the platform. Prior to 2020, EA games were primarily distributed through its own launcher (formerly Origin, now EA App), which limited the visibility and player base on Steam. With Battlefield 6, EA has embraced a more open distribution strategy, including day-one availability on Steam—an important factor in its strong start.

Still, industry observers note that this record should be considered within context. While the numbers are impressive, comparisons to earlier Battlefield games on Steam are not entirely equal due to EA’s previous platform exclusivity.

Key Features Driving Player Interest

Part of the game’s success stems from developer and publisher decisions that have resonated positively with the community:

Return of Classic Class Weapons: Unlike recent entries that shifted toward specialized loadouts, Battlefield 6 brings back the traditional class-based weapon system—a move praised by long-time fans.

No EA App Requirement for Steam Users: PC players can now bypass the often-criticized EA App and launch the game directly through Steam, simplifying access and improving user experience.

Balanced Gameplay and Visual Appeal: Early feedback from players and reviewers suggests that Battlefield 6 captures the chaotic, large-scale battles the series is known for, with significant improvements in performance and visual fidelity.

Comparison to Other Popular Titles

At its current peak, Battlefield 6 has surpassed well-known titles like Skyrim and sits just below Elden Ring Nightreign in terms of peak concurrent players. With interest continuing to rise, industry analysts expect it could overtake other heavy hitters such as Destiny 2, Mecha Break, and possibly even the original Counter-Strike.

This momentum indicates not only a strong launch but also suggests sustained interest, particularly if EA continues to respond to player feedback.

Critical Reception and Community Response

According to Morgan Park, FPS editor at PC Gamer, the new entry signals a potential “return to form” for the Battlefield franchise. The early access version has impressed many in the gaming press, thanks in part to EA’s uncharacteristic approach of aligning its development decisions with core fan expectations.

On platforms like Reddit, X (formerly Twitter), and Steam forums, community sentiment appears more positive compared to previous entries. Players have praised the stability of the beta, map design, and improved gunplay mechanics.

Future Expectations and Launch Outlook

If the current pace continues, Battlefield 6 is poised to set new benchmarks not only within the franchise but across the multiplayer shooter genre. EA’s strategy of delivering a smoother user experience and returning to beloved gameplay mechanics seems to be paying off.

As the beta continues and the full launch nears, all eyes will be on how EA handles post-beta feedback, final optimizations, and potential monetization features.

Final Thoughts

David Dastmalchian prepares for M. Bison role in upcoming Street Fighter film

July 27, 2025, 14:00 EDT

Actor David Dastmalchian is stepping into one of the most iconic villain roles in video game history—M. Bison—in the upcoming live-action Street Fighter movie. While the film’s release has been delayed beyond its original March 2026 target, Dastmalchian is already diving deep into the character through research, gameplay, and discussions with the creative team.

In a recent interview with IGN, the seasoned actor spoke about how he’s preparing to embody the notorious antagonist and what fans might expect from the film’s take on the Street Fighter universe.

A new face for a legendary villain

David Dastmalchian has built a reputation for bringing unique and often eccentric characters to life. Best known for his role as Polka-Dot Man in The Suicide Squad, he has also appeared in major titles like Ant-Man, Dune: Part One, Oppenheimer, Late Night with the Devil, and Twin Peaks. With such a versatile résumé, fans are curious to see how he will portray the menacing and power-hungry M. Bison.

In his IGN interview, Dastmalchian described the process of mentally and physically preparing for the role. Rather than relying solely on scripts and director guidance, the actor said he’s been “going to the arcade and playing a lot of Street Fighter II” to understand the nuances of Bison’s persona. He jokingly added that he “never loses,” perhaps a nod to the character’s dominance in the game.

Staying true to the character’s origins

While Dastmalchian’s comments reflect a humorous approach, they also show his commitment to capturing the spirit of M. Bison, the ruthless dictator of the Shadaloo organization in the Street Fighter lore.

The IGN interview touched on fan-favorite features, such as whether M. Bison will have his signature glowing white eyes in the film. Dastmalchian diplomatically declined to confirm specifics but hinted that conversations around the character’s look are ongoing. “I’m not going to weigh in on those sorts of discussions,” he said, though he appeared open to the idea. His tone suggested he may already have insider knowledge about the film’s visual direction but is choosing to stay tight-lipped.

Creative input and character development

Dastmalchian revealed that he’s been in private talks with key decision-makers—whom he referred to as “the boss”—about how M. Bison should be portrayed on screen. These discussions suggest that the actor is not just playing a role but also helping shape its development in collaboration with the production team.

Though he did not share details about the film’s script or production progress, his involvement at this stage indicates a level of creative engagement that fans of the franchise may find promising.

What we know about the new Street Fighter movie

The live-action Street Fighter film is being developed by Legendary Entertainment, which acquired the rights in 2023. The studio initially targeted a March 2026 release, but that timeline has since been pushed back, with no confirmed date as of July 2025.

As of now, few plot details have been made public, and the full cast has not been officially announced. However, the inclusion of Dastmalchian as M. Bison has already generated buzz among gaming fans and film enthusiasts alike.

Given the mixed reception of past Street Fighter adaptations—including the 1994 Jean-Claude Van Damme version—there’s a strong incentive for this reboot to strike a more faithful and compelling tone. Legendary has yet to confirm a director or reveal how closely the film will align with the game’s established storylines.

Why Dastmalchian may be the right choice

Casting Dastmalchian as M. Bison is a bold and intriguing move. Unlike past portrayals that leaned into over-the-top villainy, Dastmalchian brings a more cerebral and character-driven approach to his roles. His performances often explore the psychological depth of outcast or morally gray characters, which could offer a fresh interpretation of Bison’s ruthless ambition and troubled backstory.

His track record in both blockbuster and indie projects shows he has the range to adapt to the unique tone of a Street Fighter film—whether the filmmakers aim for stylized action, darker themes, or a faithful homage to the original games.

Fan expectations and what’s next

With no official release window currently announced, fans will likely have to wait a while before seeing Dastmalchian’s M. Bison in action. However, his early involvement and attention to detail are signs that the production is aiming to deliver a serious and character-rich take on the Street Fighter universe.

In the meantime, the IGN interview offers a small glimpse into the actor’s dedication and enthusiasm for the project. While he avoided giving away spoilers, Dastmalchian’s comments suggest that the filmmakers are treating this reboot with care—and that his version of M. Bison may surprise both longtime fans and new audiences.

Conclusion

David Dastmalchian’s casting as M. Bison marks a promising new chapter for the Street Fighter franchise on screen. With a thoughtful approach to character development and a clear passion for the source material, Dastmalchian is laying the groundwork for a compelling performance. As fans eagerly await more news about the production and cast, his involvement is a strong sign that the project may live up to its high expectations.

AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme Benchmark Leak Suggests Major CPU Gains for Handheld Gaming

A new benchmark leak for AMD’s Ryzen Z2 Extreme hints at a notable performance boost that could power the next wave of handheld gaming devices.

Benchmark Appears on Geekbench

A listing on Geekbench has revealed early CPU performance scores for the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme, the highly anticipated chip expected to feature in upcoming flagship handhelds such as the Lenovo Legion Go 2 and Asus ROG Ally X.

The benchmark was reportedly run on an MSI Claw A8 BZ2EM, a device that has not yet been publicly announced. While it’s still possible that the listing was spoofed, Geekbench leaks have historically proven reliable.

Performance Gains Over Z1 Extreme

The leaked Geekbench results suggest a 22% gain in single-core performance compared to the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme found in the current-gen Asus ROG Ally. The Z2 Extreme scored 2,748 points in the single-threaded test, up from the Z1 Extreme’s average of around 2,250.

In the multi-threaded test, the Z2 Extreme reached 12,182 points, offering an 11% increase over its predecessor’s roughly 11,000-point performance.

This performance leap is likely due to the shift from AMD’s Zen 4 architecture to the newer Zen 5 design, which powers the Z2 Extreme.

Specs Snapshot

While the benchmark doesn’t reveal anything new about the chip’s specifications, it confirms previous reports. The AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme features:

8 CPU cores, with 16 threads

Base clock of 2.0 GHz

Boost clock of 4.44 GHz (slightly below AMD’s official spec of 5.3 GHz)

Codename: Strix Point

Integrated RDNA 3.5 GPU with 16 compute units (not tested in this leak)

GPU and Battery Life Still Unknown

Although CPU performance shows promise, the leak doesn’t provide insights into GPU power or battery efficiency—both crucial for handheld gaming. The RDNA 3.5 GPU integrated into the Z2 Extreme remains untested in real-world scenarios.

Gamers will be watching closely to see if AMD can pair these CPU gains with improved graphics and better battery life in compact handhelds.

What’s Next for Handheld Gaming?

The Z2 Extreme is expected to become the go-to processor for premium gaming handhelds launching later in 2025. Devices like the Lenovo Legion Go 2, rumored for a September release, could set a new benchmark for portable performance.

Until then, readers can check out our reviews of current top-tier handhelds, including the Asus ROG Ally X and AOKZOE A1X, to compare what’s available now.

ESL Pro Tour Unveils Major Updates for 2025/2026 Dota 2 Season

ESL Pro Tour 2025/2026: A Fresh Chapter for Competitive Dota 2

Big changes are on the horizon for Dota 2 fans and teams alike. ESL has officially announced key updates to the 2025/2026 ESL Pro Tour (EPT) season, including a revamped calendar, an expanded ESL One, and new opportunities for rising talent through Tier 2 events.

Here’s a closer look at what’s ahead for the Dota 2 competitive scene.

A New Structure: ESL One and DreamLeagues Lead the Way

The EPT calendar will now center around ESL One Spring, which becomes the flagship mid-season event. As part of the changes, ESL One will expand to 16 teams, up from the previous 12, giving more squads a shot at glory on the big stage.

Each EPT season moving forward will feature:

3 DreamLeague tournaments

1 redesigned ESL One event

To keep things fresh, each DreamLeague will use a unique format, designed to offer variety and excitement for players and fans throughout the season.

Adapting With the Community in Mind

ESL is placing a stronger emphasis on community feedback. The team plans to continually refine event formats based on fan and player input, ensuring the EPT remains both innovative and true to the spirit of Dota 2.

Raising the Stakes as the Season Progresses

The new ecosystem is structured to give more teams a chance at the start of the season, with gradually fewer spots available as the year progresses. This design raises the stakes at every stage—by season’s end, only the most consistent and battle-tested teams will remain atop the EPT leaderboard.

But don’t worry—open qualifiers aren’t going anywhere. Miracle runs are still part of the story, and new contenders will always have a shot to break through.

DreamLeague Division 2: Rebuilding the Tier 2 Bridge

One of the most exciting additions to the EPT is the launch of Tier 2 support through DreamLeague Division 2, which will run across the EU regions.

For too long, the gap between Tier 1 and Tier 2 Dota has left rising teams without a clear path forward. ESL aims to close that gap. DreamLeague Division 2 will:

Feature 4 tournaments in the 2025/2026 season

Offer a combined $200,000 prize pool

Provide direct qualification paths to million-dollar EPT events

This expansion doesn’t replace the existing qualifier system—instead, it adds more opportunities for teams to prove themselves and earn their place at the top.

A Nod to Dota’s Global Roots

From the very first DreamLeague, the goal has been clear: deliver top-tier inter-regional matchups that showcase the best of global Dota 2. With these upcoming changes, ESL is doubling down on that mission—ensuring top teams from all regions continue to clash on the world stage.

What’s Next

More details will be announced as we approach the start of the 2025/2026 season, including tournament formats, dates, and qualifier information. ESL is committed to keeping the Dota 2 scene dynamic, competitive, and open to the next wave of rising stars.

What’s New in 2025/2026?

ESL One Spring becomes the central mid-season event, expanded to 16 teams

3 unique-format DreamLeagues per season

Community-driven format updates throughout the season

DreamLeague Division 2 brings Tier 2 teams into the spotlight with $200K in prizes

More teams invited early in the season; higher stakes later on

Open qualifiers continue, keeping miracle runs alive

Final Thoughts

The 2025/2026 EPT season promises to be one of the most ambitious yet, with a focus on competitive integrity, fresh content, and community connection. Whether you’re a top-tier team or an up-and-coming squad hungry for your shot, there’s more reason than ever to be excited for what’s next in the world of Dota 2.
