Deadly Shooting in Small Mississippi Town Leaves Six Dead, Dozens Injured

Four people have been arrested following a mass shooting in Leland, Mississippi, that killed six people and left more than a dozen others injured over the weekend, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The attack, which took place during a homecoming celebration, is now among the deadliest shootings in the U.S. this year.

Suspects Charged With Capital and Attempted Murder

In a statement released Monday, the FBI’s Jackson Field Office said three men — Teviyon L. Powell, 29, William Bryant, 29, and Morgan Lattimore, 25 — have been charged with capital murder. A fourth person, Latoya A. Powell, 44, faces an attempted murder charge.

Authorities have not yet disclosed whether the suspects have legal representation. The Associated Press reported that messages left with the Washington County Public Defender’s Office seeking comment went unanswered.

Investigators said the gunfire “appears to have been sparked by a disagreement among several individuals,” though a specific motive has not yet been confirmed. Officials also noted that “other arrests are pending” as the investigation continues.

Chaos During Homecoming Celebration

The shooting unfolded late Friday night as crowds gathered in downtown Leland for homecoming festivities following a high school football game. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as gunfire erupted, sending people fleeing through the streets.

Four victims died at the scene, while two others succumbed to their injuries later. Shoes, personal items, and blood were left scattered across the pavement the following morning.

“It was the most horrific scene I’d ever seen,” said witness Camish Hopkins, who told the Associated Press she saw multiple people lying motionless on the ground while others screamed for help.

FBI Seeks Public’s Help and Identifies Suspects

Prior to the arrests, the FBI released images from surveillance footage showing one woman and three men identified as “unknown suspects.” The agency had asked the public to assist in identifying those individuals.

The announcement of arrests on Monday marked a significant development in the investigation, though federal officials emphasized that further suspects may still be at large.

One of Several Weekend Shootings in Mississippi

The Leland mass shooting was one of several violent incidents across Mississippi during the same weekend, many coinciding with homecoming celebrations at schools and universities.

In Heidelberg, a town about 85 miles southeast of Jackson, police discovered the bodies of two people — including a pregnant woman — on a high school campus Friday night. Authorities arrested an 18-year-old man who now faces two counts of murder and a firearms charge for allegedly bringing a weapon onto school property.

Meanwhile, at Alcorn State University in Claiborne County, three people were shot near a campus building on Saturday evening, killing one person, according to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. The shooting occurred hours after the school’s homecoming football game, which drew more than 7,000 spectators. No arrests have been announced in that case.

Later that same night, Jackson police responded to reports of gunfire near the tailgating area outside Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium, where Jackson State University hosted Alabama State University. Officers said a juvenile was shot in the abdomen and hospitalized. Police have not provided updates on any arrests or the victim’s condition.

Growing Concern Over Gun Violence and Mass Killings

According to the Associated Press/USA TODAY/Northeastern University Mass Killing Database, the Leland tragedy marks the 14th mass killing in the United States in 2025. The database defines such incidents as those involving four or more victims killed intentionally within a 24-hour period, excluding the perpetrator.

Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves expressed condolences to the victims’ families and urged communities to remain vigilant. State officials have pledged full cooperation with the FBI and local law enforcement agencies as investigations into the multiple shootings continue.

Investigation Ongoing as Community Mourns

The FBI has maintained an active presence in Leland as agents continue collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses. The agency is working alongside the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, and Leland Police Department.

Local officials said counseling services and community support programs are being made available for residents affected by the tragedy.

“This community is hurting deeply,” said a Leland city spokesperson. “We are working with state and federal partners to bring justice to the victims and restore a sense of safety.”

Homecoming Weekend Turned Tragic

Homecoming festivities across Mississippi are typically times of reunion and celebration, drawing students, alumni, and families to local events. However, this year’s celebrations were overshadowed by violence that left communities reeling.

Law enforcement officials have increased patrols and announced plans to review security measures for future public events. “We will not tolerate this level of violence in our towns,” said a spokesperson for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.

As of Monday night, authorities had not released the names of the victims, pending notification of next of kin.

National Response and Broader Implications

Gun violence remains a persistent challenge across the United States, particularly during large gatherings. Experts warn that the clustering of such incidents over the same weekend underscores the urgent need for stronger community outreach and prevention efforts.

Federal officials said the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is assisting in tracing the weapons used in the Leland shooting to determine their origins and whether they were legally obtained.

Nightclub Shooting Claims Three Lives, Nine Others Injured

Published Time: 08-18-2025, 09:45

A shooting at the Taste of the City Lounge in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood early Sunday left three dead and nine wounded, in one of the rare mass violence incidents in New York City this year. Police say the attack may be gang-related, prompting calls for public assistance in identifying the shooters.

Shooting Incident and Immediate Response

The shooting occurred just before 3:30 a.m. at a crowded nightclub in Crown Heights. Police believe that up to four shooters opened fire following a dispute inside the venue. Authorities recovered at least 42 shell casings from 9 mm and .45-caliber firearms and found a gun in a nearby street.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch described the incident as “a tragic, senseless act of violence” and confirmed that, at the time of reporting, no arrests had been made.

Three victims—aged 19, 27, and 35—lost their lives, including a 19-year-old who died at the scene. The nine others injured, aged between 19 and 61, were treated at local hospitals for non-life-threatening wounds.

Context: Record-Low Gun Violence in New York

This incident is the second mass shooting in New York City in recent weeks, despite the city experiencing historically low levels of gun violence this year. On July 29, a shooting in a Manhattan office tower resulted in four fatalities and one injury, including the death of a New York City police officer.

Mayor Eric Adams highlighted the unusual nature of these events, stating, “This is the second within weeks, and we don’t want this to turn into a normal course of doing business of violence in our city.” He emphasized ongoing efforts to remove illegal firearms from the streets.

Investigation and Law Enforcement Response

Crisis management teams have been mobilized to provide trauma support and mediate with the victims’ families and friends to prevent retaliatory violence. Tisch stressed that the city’s overall gun crime remains at a record low during the first seven months of 2025.

Mayor Adams urged witnesses to come forward: “If you were inside the club, if you heard individuals talking about this shooting, if you witnessed someone fleeing the location, every piece of information will allow us to put the puzzle together.” Residents with information are encouraged to contact NYPD’s crime stoppers line at 800-577-TIPS.

Authorities Seek Public Assistance

Law enforcement continues to review surveillance footage, witness statements, and ballistic evidence to identify suspects and determine motives. The involvement of multiple shooters and the apparent gang-related dispute underscore the complexity of the investigation.

Authorities hope that community cooperation will accelerate progress in solving the case while deterring further violence. Tisch reiterated: “Something like this is, of course, thank God, an anomaly and it’s a terrible thing that happened this morning, but we’re going to investigate and get to the bottom of what went down.”

Community Impact and Response

The Crown Heights neighborhood, known for its vibrant nightlife, has been left shaken by the shooting. Local officials and law enforcement are working to reassure residents and prevent further incidents. Support services, including counseling and mediation, are being offered to victims and their families.

Mayor Adams stressed the importance of community vigilance in curbing violence: “We must continue to work together, report what we see, and ensure that our city does not normalize acts like this.”

CDC Shooting Suspect Had History of Suicidal Reports, Used Father’s Guns in Attack

Published Time: 08-13-2025, 15:45

Authorities have released new details about the man accused of carrying out a deadly shooting at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) headquarters in Atlanta last week. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Patrick Joseph White, reportedly had prior police contacts over suicidal thoughts and used firearms taken from his father’s locked safe during the attack.

Incident Overview

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), the shooting occurred on Friday, shortly before 5 p.m., and resulted in the death of DeKalb County Police Department Officer David Rose, 33. White allegedly fired approximately 200 rounds at six CDC buildings before taking his own life.

Officer Rose, a former U.S. Marine who served in Afghanistan, had joined the DeKalb County Police Department in September 2024. He was fatally wounded while responding to the incident.

Investigators recovered five firearms from the scene, primarily long guns, and collected more than 500 shell casings.

Prior Police Contacts and Mental Health Concerns

GBI Director Chris Hosey confirmed that White had no prior criminal history but had recently expressed suicidal thoughts. Law enforcement officers had been contacted about his mental health several times in the past year.

“Evidence in this investigation indicates that the shooter had recently verbalized thoughts of suicide, which even led to law enforcement being contacted several weeks prior to the incident,” Hosey said at a Tuesday press briefing.

Local reports from Fox Atlanta indicate that police responded to at least three separate calls about White’s mental state in the past year. In a September 2024 incident, White told officers that his health had declined after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine, contributing to his suicidal thoughts. He reportedly took a gun from his father’s locker during that episode, which he later described as “a cry for help.”

Following that event, White was transported to Kennestone Hospital but declined further mental health treatment in later encounters. Additional police contacts occurred in April and July 2025.

Access to Firearms

Officials stated that the firearms used in the attack were stored securely in a locked safe at White’s father’s home. Hosey said the suspect forcibly accessed the safe before the shooting.

“All indications in our investigation were that the weapons were secure and that he forced his way into the safe,” Hosey explained.

The recovered firearms included several long guns used to fire into CDC buildings.

Suspect’s Writings and Motivation

During a search of White’s residence, authorities found written material expressing his discontent with COVID-19 vaccinations. Hosey described the writings as personal documents aimed at raising “public awareness” of his views, without making direct threats.

“I would describe it as more of a public awareness. There was no direct threat… but it was his making the public aware, in his words, of his discontent with the vaccines,” Hosey said.

The materials are being reviewed by behavioral analysts and shared with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Sequence of Events

Authorities reported that before the shooting began, CDC security personnel stopped White near the facility. He then drove to a pharmacy across the street, where he opened fire from the sidewalk. The rounds struck blast-resistant windows on the CDC campus, forcing employees to shelter in place.

More than 500 shell casings were later recovered from the crime scene, according to the GBI.

Security Response and Federal Visit

In the aftermath of the attack, CDC officials are reviewing security measures and working closely with law enforcement to address potential threats.

On Monday, U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. visited the CDC campus with Deputy Secretary Jim O’Neill and CDC Director Susan Monarez. The group also visited the DeKalb County Police Department and met privately with Officer Rose’s widow.

Kennedy recently announced changes to federal vaccination guidelines, stating that the CDC will no longer recommend COVID-19 vaccinations for healthy children or pregnant individuals. He also said the government had canceled 22 mRNA vaccine development contracts, totaling about $500 million, citing data indicating limited protection against upper respiratory infections.

Community Impact

The shooting has drawn national attention to issues of mental health, firearm access, and security at federal facilities. Authorities emphasized that early intervention and secure firearm storage remain critical in preventing similar tragedies.

The investigation remains active, with the GBI, FBI, and local law enforcement continuing to examine the suspect’s actions, motivations, and prior contacts with police.

Authorities in Austin, Texas, say a man opened fire in the parking lot of a Target store Monday afternoon, killing two adults and a child before fleeing in stolen vehicles. The suspect was later captured following a multi-location pursuit. Police are investigating the motive behind the attack.

Incident Overview

AUSTIN, Texas — A shooting at a Target store in north Austin on Monday afternoon left three people dead and a community reeling. According to Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis, the suspect, a man in his 30s with a known history of mental health issues, opened fire in the store’s parking lot at approximately 2:15 p.m.

Emergency responders found two adults and one child with gunshot wounds. An adult and the child were pronounced dead at the scene, while the second adult died at a local hospital, Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services confirmed.

A fourth individual was treated for a non-traumatic medical complaint unrelated to the shooting.

Suspect’s Flight and Arrest

Police say the shooter initially fled the scene in a stolen car belonging to one of the victims. That vehicle was later involved in a crash, prompting the suspect to steal a second car from a nearby dealership.

Authorities tracked the man to south Austin, roughly 20 miles (32 kilometers) from the scene. Officers used a Taser to subdue and arrest him without further injuries.

Chief Davis told reporters the suspect’s motive remains under investigation, noting that his mental health history is a key factor police are reviewing.

Witness Accounts

Several witnesses described chaotic scenes in the moments following the gunfire.

Lonnie Lee, 22, said she and her sister had been shopping at the Target earlier in the day before leaving for lunch. When they returned to the area, they were confronted by police barricades and emergency vehicles.

“We got really, really lucky,” Lee said. “And some people didn’t.”

At a nearby Jiffy Lube, employees locked the doors after learning of the shooting. Paul Smith, who works at the auto service shop, recalled returning from the Target moments before the incident.

“I had just gotten back from the Target like a minute before,” Smith said.

Community and Official Responses

Austin Mayor Kirk Watson addressed the tragedy on social media, calling it “a sickening, cowardly act of gun violence” and expressing condolences to the victims’ families.

Target Corporation released a statement expressing deep sorrow and confirming that grief counseling will be made available to employees in the Austin area.

“Our hearts are with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives, our team in Austin, and all those impacted by this tragedy,” the company said.

Broader Context

The incident occurred during the busy back-to-school shopping season, a period when stores often experience increased foot traffic.

The shooting also comes less than three weeks after an unrelated attack at a Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan, where 11 people were injured in a stabbing spree. Authorities in that case have charged the suspect with terrorism and multiple counts of attempted murder.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities are working to determine what led to Monday’s violence in Austin. Police have not released the names of the victims or the suspect, pending notification of family members.

Chief Davis emphasized the department’s commitment to a thorough investigation. “This is a very sad day for Austin. It’s a very sad day for us all,” she said. “My condolences go out to the families.”

Investigators are reviewing security footage, interviewing witnesses, and examining evidence from multiple locations across the city.

Three Injured in Early Morning Shooting at Times Square, New York City

Published Time: 08-10-2025, 02:30 (U.S. Eastern Time)

Three individuals were injured in a shooting incident that took place in New York City’s bustling Times Square early Saturday morning. The New York Police Department (NYPD) responded swiftly, detaining one person for questioning, while the investigation into the circumstances of the shooting remains ongoing.

Incident Overview and Police Response

At approximately 1:20 a.m., emergency services were alerted to gunfire reported near Times Square, one of the city’s most frequented tourist destinations and entertainment hubs. Eyewitness videos circulating on social media showed scenes of panic, with crowds quickly dispersing and police officers surrounding a vehicle at the scene.

Officers administered aid to the wounded individuals, who were subsequently transported to local hospitals. According to NYPD officials, while multiple victims sustained injuries, none are reported to be life-threatening. At present, authorities have detained one individual related to the incident, but no formal charges have been filed.

Impact on New York City and Gun Violence Trends

New York City has experienced a notable decline in gun-related violence throughout 2025, with shootings down 23% compared to the same period last year, marking one of the lowest rates in decades. This shooting stands out as a significant event amid the broader positive trend.

Times Square is designated as a sensitive location under New York’s strict firearms regulations, which prohibit the possession of guns in specific public areas such as schools, hospitals, public transportation, and this iconic district. Additionally, the state enforces rigorous requirements for handgun ownership, including background checks emphasizing the applicant’s “good moral character.”

These laws have withstood recent legal scrutiny, with the U.S. Supreme Court declining to challenge New York State’s firearm regulations earlier this year in April, signaling continued support for stringent gun control measures within the state.

What Authorities Are Saying

NYPD spokespersons have stated that the investigation is ongoing, with officials reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the shooting. Police urge anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation.

Community Reaction and Safety Measures

The shooting has caused concern among residents and visitors in Times Square, an area usually bustling with tourists and locals late into the night. City officials reaffirm their commitment to maintaining public safety and have increased patrols in high-traffic areas as a precautionary measure.

Summary and Looking Ahead

While the recent shooting in Times Square has raised immediate alarm, the prompt police response and ongoing investigation reflect New York City’s dedication to controlling gun violence and ensuring safety in public spaces. As details emerge, authorities continue to emphasize the importance of community cooperation to prevent future incidents.

Third suspect arrested in Cincinnati street brawl that sparked viral outrage

Written: July 30, 2025, 18:00 EST

A third individual has been arrested in connection with a violent street assault in downtown Cincinnati, bringing the total number of suspects in custody to three. The incident, captured on video and widely circulated online, showed two individuals being attacked by a crowd, prompting widespread condemnation and a multi-agency investigation.

Suspect Jermaine Matthews charged with assault and riot

Cincinnati police confirmed that Jermaine Matthews was taken into custody and charged with aggravated riot and assault. Matthews joins two other suspects — 34-year-old Montianez Merriweather and 24-year-old Dekyra Vernon — who were arrested earlier this week on similar charges.

Court records show that Matthews was booked overnight and is being held on a $100,000 bond. Merriweather and Vernon were held on bonds of $500,000 and $200,000, respectively. During Matthews’ court appearance, prosecutors presented footage allegedly showing him chasing a victim into the street and kicking the individual repeatedly after they fell.

Prosecutors described Matthews as appearing “visibly enraged” after the attack and claimed he attempted to hit another person shortly after. In one video clip, prosecutors noted that Matthews may have been initially struck in the face, which could have escalated the situation.

According to court records, Matthews has three prior felony convictions, all involving drug-related offenses.

Prosecutors describe violent conduct in court

In addition to Matthews, prosecutors focused on the role of Dekyra Vernon, who they said was also caught on video actively participating in the violence. Though Vernon reportedly has no prior criminal record aside from traffic violations and an outstanding traffic-related warrant, prosecutors argued for a significant bond.

A still image presented in court allegedly shows Vernon watching the fight unfold from the sidewalk. In the same video, prosecutors claim Vernon punched a woman who was attempting to assist one of the victims. That victim reportedly required multiple hospital visits due to injuries sustained in the incident.

Vernon’s defense attorney argued that she was in a “very different situation” than her co-defendants, emphasizing her clean record and lack of prior violent behavior.

Incident occurred near downtown nightlife hotspot

The assault took place early Saturday morning near LoVe, a well-known nightclub in Cincinnati, and a nearby late-night eatery. Footage of the incident shows a man and a woman being attacked by multiple individuals. The woman was knocked unconscious in what appeared to be a surprise punch.

According to Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge, five individuals have been formally charged so far. During a press conference on Monday, Theetge expressed concern over the public’s lack of response, noting that despite a crowd of roughly 100 people witnessing or engaging in the altercation, only one person called 911.

“That is unacceptable,” she said. “People saw this happening in front of traffic and still did not report it. We rely on community engagement to respond effectively to these events.”

FBI joins investigation alongside local police

The FBI confirmed to Fox News Digital that it is assisting with the investigation and working closely with the Cincinnati Police Department.

In a statement, an FBI spokesperson said:

“The FBI has been and will continue closely coordinating with the Cincinnati Police Department on this matter.”

The federal agency’s involvement reflects the severity of the assault and the potential for broader legal implications as authorities review whether the attack involved hate crimes or other federal offenses.

Victim receives public support, criticism of local response grows

The woman knocked unconscious in the video, identified only as Holly, has since become the face of public concern over the assault. Ohio Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy spoke with Holly on Monday and criticized what he described as a lack of local law enforcement presence during the attack.

“She’s a single working mom who went to a friend’s birthday party,” Ramaswamy said in a statement. “It’s unconscionable that no police or ambulance were present on a busy Friday night.”

He also criticized what he sees as inadequate leadership in urban areas, saying, “Hard-working Americans shouldn’t have to worry for their safety while enjoying a night out.”

Ramaswamy’s remarks sparked a broader debate about crime and policing in urban centers, particularly in cities like Cincinnati where local resources may be stretched thin.

Cincinnati mayoral candidate voices concern

Cory Bowman, a mayoral candidate and half-brother of Ohio Senator JD Vance, also spoke out following the attack. He expressed frustration at what he sees as a growing public disillusionment with law enforcement.

“People don’t even see the sense in calling 911 anymore,” Bowman told Fox News Digital. He criticized the city’s leadership for allowing crime to escalate to such a public and violent degree.

The remarks reflect increasing political pressure on city officials to address public safety concerns and rebuild trust in emergency response systems.

Public reaction highlights broader safety concerns

The viral nature of the video has prompted both outrage and deep concern among residents and online viewers. Many have called for stricter enforcement and improved street patrols in entertainment districts known for late-night activity.

The Cincinnati Police Department has urged anyone with additional video or information about the incident to come forward to assist with the investigation.

So far, authorities have not ruled out further arrests as they continue reviewing footage and gathering statements from witnesses.

Conclusion

The brutal assault in downtown Cincinnati has sparked an urgent conversation about urban safety, law enforcement responsiveness, and the role of bystanders during violent incidents. With three suspects in custody and a broader investigation underway, city and federal officials are working to determine accountability and prevent similar violence in the future.

Reno casino shooting: Three killed, suspect critically injured after gunfire outside Grand Sierra Resort

Written July 29, 2025, 14:00 EDT

A tragic shooting outside one of Reno, Nevada’s largest casino resorts has left three people dead and several others injured. Authorities say the gunman opened fire early Monday morning near the valet area of the Grand Sierra Resort before being shot by responding officers. The motive remains unclear, and the suspect is currently in critical condition.

Gunman opens fire near casino entrance

The shooting occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. local time outside the Grand Sierra Resort, a prominent hotel and casino complex just northeast of Lake Tahoe and near the California border. According to police, the suspect approached the valet area, pulled out a handgun, and aimed at a group of people.

Although the weapon initially malfunctioned, the gunman quickly managed to fire multiple shots, hitting several individuals before fleeing on foot through the parking lot.

“There was incredible, swift action that took place,” said Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve, crediting law enforcement and security staff with preventing the gunman from entering the resort building and causing further harm.

Multiple casualties and critical injuries

According to Chris Crawforth, police chief of the neighboring city of Sparks, the attack left three people dead and three more wounded, two of whom remain in critical condition. One injured victim has already been released from the hospital, and additional minor injuries were reported inside the casino, including cases of anxiety and injuries sustained while fleeing the scene.

During the incident, the suspect encountered an armed security guard and exchanged gunfire before fleeing again. The shooter later fired at a passing vehicle, fatally striking the driver.

Police respond within minutes

Authorities arrived on the scene within three minutes of the first shots being fired. Reno Police Chief Kathryn Nance confirmed that the suspect fired at officers, hitting a patrol car before multiple officers returned fire and struck him. The suspect, whose identity has not yet been made public, was transported to a local hospital and remains in critical condition.

Chief Nance also noted that one officer sustained a non-life-threatening injury, likely from glass fragments.

“Tragedies like this are horrific for any community to endure,” Nance said during a press briefing.

Investigators confirmed that the suspect was carrying multiple firearm magazines, suggesting the potential for an even larger-scale attack had it not been interrupted.

Eyewitness accounts describe chaos

Witnesses who were inside the Grand Sierra Resort at the time of the attack described scenes of confusion and fear. Michael Sisco, 60, said he was preparing to head to the valet when he heard what sounded like popping noises.

“I looked out my window and saw people screaming and running,” he said. “I saw a man holding his stomach and then collapse next to a car. A half hour after the incident I started shaking because I realized I could’ve been there. That’s exactly where I was going.”

Another guest, Christina Martinez, was stepping onto an elevator just as gunfire erupted. She had been getting coffee moments earlier near the resort’s main entrance—close to where the shooting began.

“I feel very blessed, but that’s kind of why I had a panic attack,” Martinez said. “I was like, ‘Oh my God. I was just there.’”

Casino releases statement, security tightened

Following the attack, access to the valet area was restricted, and privacy screens were installed inside the casino to block the view of the crime scene. In a public statement, the Grand Sierra Resort expressed sorrow over the tragedy:

“We are heartbroken by the senseless violence that occurred in our parking area earlier today. Our thoughts are with the victims and all those affected by this tragic incident.”

The casino, which boasts nearly 2,000 hotel rooms and the largest gaming floor in northern Nevada, has become a major entertainment and tourist hub. It has hosted concerts, sports events, and political rallies—including a campaign event by former President Donald Trump ahead of the 2024 election.

Community responds as investigation continues

Authorities continue to investigate the suspect’s background and possible motives. At this time, police say there is no known connection between the shooter and the victims, and it remains unclear whether the gunman was a guest, employee, or visitor at the Grand Sierra Resort.

Devon Reese, Chair of the Board of Health in northern Nevada, confirmed that three additional individuals were treated for minor injuries: one person grazed by a bullet, one with anxiety symptoms, and another who was hurt while escaping the scene.

This is not the first violent incident at the Grand Sierra. In January 2024, two men were charged with fatally shooting a guest at the same location, raising broader concerns about public safety at large-scale resort venues.

Renewed concerns over public safety

The Reno shooting comes amid a broader national conversation about gun violence, mass shootings, and security in public spaces. While the quick response by local authorities and casino security likely prevented greater loss of life, the incident has prompted calls for enhanced security and mental health screenings at major venues.

Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information or video footage of the event to contact local authorities. The public is also encouraged to remain alert and report any suspicious behavior in crowded venues.

Gunman in NYC skyscraper shooting targeted NFL, mayor says

Written July 29, 2025, 18:00 EDT

A deadly shooting at a Manhattan skyscraper left multiple people dead and others injured, as investigators now reveal the suspect may have intended to target the National Football League (NFL) headquarters. The gunman, identified as Shane Tamura, reportedly entered the wrong elevator bank and mistakenly ended up on a different floor, city officials said.

Suspect believed NFL was responsible for his suffering

According to New York City Mayor Eric Adams, the shooting suspect had expressed anger toward the NFL and blamed the league for his mental and physical health struggles. Adams appeared on Good Day New York on Fox 5 and explained that Tamura mistakenly took the wrong elevator bank, leading him to a floor housing offices for Rudin Management, a real estate company.

“He seemed to have blamed the NFL,” Adams stated. “The NFL headquarters was located in the building, and he mistakenly went up the wrong elevator bank.”

Investigators say Tamura, a former high school football player, may have suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain condition often linked to repeated head trauma, common among athletes in contact sports like football. A note found near Tamura’s body made reference to his grievances and is now being treated as a potential suicide note.

The New York Post was the first to report the existence of the note, which is currently under review by authorities.

Building safety protocols likely saved lives

Mayor Adams praised Rudin Management for its preparedness and active shooter drills, which he said likely saved lives during the chaos.

“Rudin Management did their job of clearly having those active shooter drills, and the staffers were able to utilize safe rooms,” he said. “It played a great role in saving lives.”

Tamura entered the 345 Park Avenue building on Monday evening and opened fire on the 33rd floor, where he fatally shot multiple individuals. Although the NFL’s offices are located in the same building, they are situated on the fifth floor—now believed to be Tamura’s intended destination.

Victims and injuries

One NFL employee was critically injured in the shooting. In a message to staff obtained by Fox News Digital, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed that the injured employee was hospitalized and in stable condition. He emphasized that all other employees were safe and accounted for, and urged staff to remain alert to updates.

“A gunman committed an unspeakable act of violence in our building at 345 Park Avenue,” Goodell wrote. “One of our employees was seriously injured in this attack. He is currently in the hospital and in stable condition. NFL staff are at the hospital supporting his family.”

Goodell also stated that the NFL was cooperating fully with law enforcement and was closely monitoring the evolving investigation.

Shooter’s background and timeline

Shane Tamura, who grew up in California, was a former football player at Granada Hills Charter High School in the Los Angeles area. Authorities say he had a documented history of mental health challenges.

According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, Tamura drove across the country to New York City. His vehicle was last seen in Columbia, New Jersey, at around 4:24 p.m. ET—just hours before the shooting occurred.

It remains unclear exactly how Tamura gained access to the high-rise building. The NYPD is continuing to investigate the route he took through the building and whether he scouted the area in advance.

Mental health and CTE concerns

While the official medical evaluation has not yet confirmed CTE, references in Tamura’s note and statements from city officials suggest he believed he was suffering from the disease. CTE has been a growing concern in professional and amateur football circles, with ongoing debates about the NFL’s responsibility for long-term player health.

CTE can only be definitively diagnosed post-mortem, but its symptoms—such as mood swings, depression, and cognitive decline—have been widely documented. Several former NFL players diagnosed with CTE posthumously were known to have experienced mental health issues and, in some tragic cases, committed acts of violence.

Security response and ongoing investigation

The NYPD, along with federal law enforcement agencies, is continuing its investigation into Tamura’s actions, motives, and travel history. Police have not ruled out the possibility that the attack was premeditated and intended as a final act tied to his grievances.

The 345 Park Avenue building was temporarily evacuated following the shooting, and security protocols were immediately activated. As of Tuesday evening, the building has been cleared and reopened, though some tenants continue to operate remotely during the ongoing investigation.

City officials are urging anyone with information related to the incident to contact the NYPD’s tip line. The FBI has also joined the investigation to determine if the case meets criteria for domestic terrorism or a federal offense.

NFL’s response and support for employees

The NFL has since increased security at its headquarters and other regional offices and is providing mental health support to employees. A statement from the league emphasized its commitment to employee safety and trauma counseling.

“This has been a deeply disturbing incident for our entire NFL family,” the league said. “We are working closely with law enforcement and providing counseling and support to those impacted.”

Looking ahead: a renewed focus on safety

The incident has sparked renewed concerns about workplace safety, mental health, and building security in major urban centers. Officials have reiterated the importance of routine active shooter drills and access to mental health resources—both for preventing future tragedies and protecting workers in high-risk environments.

Mayor Adams urged New Yorkers to remain vigilant and supportive of each other as the city continues to investigate and heal from the traumatic event.

Cincinnati mayoral hopeful condemns city leadership after viral downtown attack

Written: July 29, 2025, 14:45 (EDT)

A violent downtown Cincinnati assault caught on video has ignited a political firestorm. Mayoral candidate Cory Bowman, a former police officer and half-brother of U.S. Senator JD Vance, is calling out the city’s leadership, arguing that lenient policies and understaffed law enforcement are putting public safety at risk.

Viral beating draws national attention

A disturbing video of a group assault on Fourth and Elm Street in downtown Cincinnati surfaced over the weekend, showing multiple individuals violently beating a defenseless person near a busy intersection. Despite over 100 apparent witnesses and several recording the incident on their phones, only one person called 911, according to Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge.

“That is unacceptable,” Chief Theetge said during a press conference on Monday. “Traffic was horrendous. People saw this. They were fighting in front of cars. Why didn’t more people call us?”

The incident took place early Saturday morning outside a popular downtown nightclub and has since spread widely on social media, prompting national outrage and renewed debates about crime in urban areas.

Bowman: Leadership is failing the city

Cory Bowman, who placed second in Cincinnati’s nonpartisan mayoral primary in May, is now preparing to challenge incumbent Mayor Aftab Pureval in November. In a Monday interview with Fox News Digital, Bowman pointed to what he sees as failed leadership, claiming current policies are hindering law enforcement and allowing violence to escalate.

“People don’t even see the sense in calling 911 anymore,” Bowman said. “It’s a wake-up call that we need stronger policy, immediate action, and real accountability to protect our residents and businesses.”

Bowman described the assault as a tragic reflection of what many downtown residents already know. “What happened here is a microcosm of what’s going on in cities across America,” he added. “You’re seeing fights, crime spikes, and laws going unenforced. This isn’t unique to Cincinnati — but we need to start fixing it here.”

Criticism of crime data and city response

Bowman also criticized city leaders and the local media for downplaying rising crime trends. While some officials reported a decline in crime rates earlier this year, Bowman argues those claims were misleading due to temporary weather conditions suppressing street activity.

“When May and June came around, there were press conferences claiming crime is down,” Bowman said. “But anyone living here knew that snow and rain had simply delayed things. Now that summer is here, the problems are back in full force.”

He emphasized that the warmer months tend to correlate with increased criminal activity and claimed that the lack of consistent law enforcement contributes to a sense of lawlessness.

Police frustrations and systemic issues

Bowman further stated that many Cincinnati Police Department (CPD) officers feel restricted by city policies and reluctant to pursue arrests due to a perceived lack of follow-through from prosecutors and the courts.

“These officers have a heart for this city,” he said. “But they’re demoralized. Some don’t see a point in making arrests when they know the suspects will be released the next day.”

His concerns were echoed by retired CPD veteran Ken Kober, who spoke to Fox News Digital. Kober called the downtown assault “a savage attack” and expressed frustration that positive events in the city — including a Reds home game sweep and the Cincinnati Jazz Festival — were overshadowed by the violence.

“As a society, we cannot accept this,” Kober said. “We have judges who won’t hold people accountable, and when there are no consequences, this is what happens.”

He called on the judicial system to deliver maximum sentences to those involved. “It would be nice to see headlines six or eight months from now saying these people were convicted and sentenced appropriately,” Kober added.

Arrests made, more suspects sought

As of Monday, the Cincinnati Police Department confirmed that five individuals had been charged in connection with the attack. Their names have not yet been released. Authorities also stated that at least eight more suspects are being sought.

Chief Theetge emphasized that many witnesses recorded the assault on their phones but failed to take action. “Over 100 people saw this, and most chose to do nothing. That’s a cultural problem we need to address,” she said.

Police are continuing to investigate and are urging anyone with additional footage or information to contact the CPD at 513-352-3040 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously.

Broader concerns about urban crime

Bowman’s critique fits into a broader national conversation about crime, policing, and urban safety. Many U.S. cities are grappling with the balance between reform-minded leadership and rising concerns about public safety.

Though some urban areas report declining crime statistics year over year, high-profile incidents like the Cincinnati beating fuel public perception that crime is worsening — particularly in downtown cores. Critics argue that certain progressive policies on bail, prosecution, and police oversight have contributed to an environment where accountability is lacking.

Supporters of reform counter that systemic issues — such as poverty, racial inequality, and lack of mental health resources — are at the heart of urban unrest, and that long-term solutions must go beyond policing.

The road to November

As the November mayoral election approaches, public safety is likely to become a central campaign issue in Cincinnati. Bowman is positioning himself as a candidate who will restore law and order, empower police, and enforce stricter accountability.

Meanwhile, Mayor Pureval and his administration have yet to publicly comment on the weekend incident in depth, though city officials are expected to address it in upcoming press briefings.

With national attention focused on Cincinnati, the debate over urban crime and leadership effectiveness shows no signs of slowing.

Midtown Manhattan shooting kills NYPD officer and three others in corporate tower incident

Written July 29, 2025 – 18:30 EDT

Four people, including a New York Police Department officer, were killed Monday evening in a shooting at a skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan. The suspected gunman, identified as a 27-year-old male from Las Vegas, also died from what authorities believe to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and NYPD, are continuing a joint investigation into the motive and events that unfolded inside the office building at 345 Park Avenue.

Shooting occurs in busy Manhattan district near tourist landmarks

The violence erupted in one of the busiest parts of Midtown Manhattan, just blocks from popular destinations like Grand Central Station, the Museum of Modern Art, and Rockefeller Center. The 634-foot office building at 345 Park Avenue spans an entire city block and houses major corporate tenants such as the National Football League (NFL) and Blackstone.

At the time of the incident, the area was filled with both locals and tourists. Eyewitness accounts and video footage shared on social media captured the swift and intense response by NYPD units and emergency services, who quickly cordoned off the surrounding streets.

Gunman identified as Las Vegas resident with handgun license

Multiple law enforcement sources told CNN that the gunman has been tentatively identified as a 27-year-old man from Las Vegas. He reportedly had a concealed carry license for a handgun and previously held a private investigator license, which has since expired.

Authorities confirmed that preliminary background checks do not reveal a significant criminal record. Surveillance footage shows the individual entering the building alone while carrying a long gun. Officials say the motive remains under investigation and it is unclear whether the shooter had a specific target in the building.

Law enforcement confirms lone gunman, provides timeline of attack

According to NYPD reports and confirmation from the FBI’s New York office, the shooter acted alone.

Shortly after 5 p.m. local time, the individual entered 345 Park Avenue armed with what appeared to be a long rifle. Within minutes, multiple gunshots were heard, and emergency calls were made.

CNN reports that hundreds of NYPD officers and federal agents responded to the active shooter situation. The shooter was later found dead inside the building, with a weapon nearby.

An NYPD officer was shot in the back and later died in the hospital despite undergoing emergency surgery. Two civilians were also shot: one is in critical condition, while the other is expected to recover.

Authorities conduct floor-by-floor building search

New York City Mayor Eric Adams confirmed via social media that the NYPD carried out a thorough floor-by-floor search of the skyscraper following the shooting.

“If you are in the building, please stay where you are,” Adams stated on X (formerly Twitter). “The NYPD is carefully sweeping 345 Park Avenue.”

As a precaution, nearby buildings were also placed under temporary lockdown. Adams said he visited the hospital where the victims were being treated and emphasized the city’s commitment to supporting those affected.

Political leaders respond to Manhattan shooting

Elected officials across New York State expressed condolences and called for stronger action to address gun violence.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) called the event a “horrific shooting” and stated on X that he was “deeply disturbed” by the loss of life. “Praying hard for the brave NYPD officer impacted and all other victims of this tragedy,” he wrote.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) shared that she was monitoring the situation closely, stating, “I’m praying for our first responders and everyone at the scene.”

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer also weighed in, saying, “We must do more to stop gun violence in America.”

Federal agencies assisting in ongoing investigation

The FBI’s New York office confirmed it is assisting the NYPD with the investigation. FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino wrote on X that the agency is present at the scene to “provide support.”

Attorney General Pam Bondi added that the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New York has established a command post to aid in the ongoing response.

Officials have not publicly released the suspect’s name, pending formal identification and notification of next of kin.

Law enforcement shares image of suspected gunman

While not publicly released, law enforcement sources shared with CNN an image captured by security cameras showing the alleged gunman walking into the building. The man appears to be wearing dark clothing, including sunglasses and a jacket, while carrying a large firearm.

Investigators continue to analyze footage from the building’s security system to determine the sequence of events leading up to the shooting.

Gun violence reignites national conversation on safety and policy

The incident in Manhattan adds to a growing list of mass shootings across the United States, renewing calls for stronger gun control measures. While New York has some of the strictest gun laws in the country, this case highlights challenges related to firearm access across state lines.

Governor Kathy Hochul shared that she had been briefed and urged the public to avoid the area while emergency response continues.

“We are devastated by the loss of a public servant in uniform,” she said. “Our hearts are with the families of those impacted.”

What we know so far:

Incident location: 345 Park Avenue, Midtown Manhattan

Victims: 4 dead, including 1 NYPD officer; 2 others injured

Shooter: Believed to be a 27-year-old male from Las Vegas, died from self-inflicted wound

Motive: Still under investigation

Responders: NYPD and FBI on-site, floor-by-floor building search completed

Public safety: Area now contained; public asked to remain cautious

Conclusion

As New York City grieves the loss of life in another tragic act of gun violence, officials stress the importance of a unified response, both locally and nationally. The NYPD and FBI continue to investigate the suspect’s background, motive, and how he gained access to the building armed.

The incident underscores the challenges urban centers face in preventing and responding to sudden violence—even in heavily monitored, high-security areas.

More updates will be provided as the investigation develops.
