Big Surprises and Historic Moments in the 2025 Grammy Nominations

2025 Grammy Nominations: The Major Categories

Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan are up for some of the biggest honors, while Beyoncé continues to make Grammy history.

Sabrina Carpenter is a major success story in the 2025 Grammy nominations announced Friday. The 25-year-old artist scored six nominations, including a spot in each of the four biggest categories: Best New Artist, Album of the Year (for Short n’ Sweet), Record of the Year (for the hit “Espresso”), and Song of the Year (for the No. 1 single “Please Please Please”).

Similarly, Chappell Roan received six nominations following her 2023 album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. She’s also nominated in the “Big Four” categories, with her song “Good Luck, Babe!” competing for both Record and Song of the Year.

As these rising stars make waves, Beyoncé is still setting records. She leads with 11 nominations, including Album of the Year for Cowboy Carter and Record and Song of the Year for “Texas Hold ‘Em.” With 99 total career Grammy nominations, Beyoncé now surpasses her husband, Jay-Z, for the most nominations ever.

Other top nominees include Post Malone, Billie Eilish, and Kendrick Lamar, each with seven nominations, while Taylor Swift earned six.

Major Category Nominees

Album of the Year

  • New Blue Sun – André 3000
  • Cowboy Carter – Beyoncé
  • Short n’ Sweet – Sabrina Carpenter
  • Brat – Charli XCX
  • Djesse Vol. 4 – Jacob Collier
  • Hit Me Hard and Soft – Billie Eilish
  • The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess – Chappell Roan
  • The Tortured Poets Department – Taylor Swift

Beyoncé is hoping to become the first Black woman to win Album of the Year this century. The last was Lauryn Hill in 1999 for The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Only Natalie Cole and Whitney Houston have also achieved this honor.

Record of the Year

  • “Now and Then” – The Beatles
  • “Texas Hold ‘Em” – Beyoncé
  • “Espresso” – Sabrina Carpenter
  • “360” – Charli XCX
  • “Birds of a Feather” – Billie Eilish
  • “Not Like Us” – Kendrick Lamar
  • “Good Luck, Babe!” – Chappell Roan
  • “Fortnight” – Taylor Swift featuring Post Malone

The Beatles make an unexpected comeback with “Now and Then” nearly 30 years after their last Grammy nomination. Remarkably, it’s the first Grammy-nominated song created with the help of AI, as Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr used technology to isolate John Lennon’s voice from an old demo.

Song of the Year

  • “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” – Shaboozey
  • “Birds of a Feather” – Billie Eilish
  • “Die with a Smile” – Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars
  • “Fortnight” – Taylor Swift featuring Post Malone
  • “Good Luck, Babe!” – Chappell Roan
  • “Not Like Us” – Kendrick Lamar
  • “Please Please Please” – Sabrina Carpenter
  • “Texas Hold ‘Em” – Beyoncé

Taylor Swift has won 14 Grammys, including four for Album of the Year, yet she has never won Song of the Year despite seven prior nominations, including one last year for “Anti-Hero.” She’s also seeking her first win for Record of the Year.

Best New Artist

  • Benson Boone
  • Sabrina Carpenter
  • Doechii
  • Khruangbin
  • Raye
  • Chappell Roan
  • Shaboozey
  • Teddy Swims

Beyoncé and Post Malone Make Waves in Country Categories

Although Cowboy Carter was overlooked for the CMA Awards, Beyoncé’s album is nominated for Best Country Album at the Grammys. Post Malone also enters the country realm with F-1 Trillion, competing against industry giants Lainey Wilson, Chris Stapleton, and Kacey Musgraves. Morgan Wallen also received his first Grammy nods for Best Country Duo/Group Performance and Best Country Song for his collaboration with Malone, “I Had Some Help.”

Charli XCX Seeks Her First Grammy Win with Brat

After only two previous nominations in 2015, Charli XCX is back with seven nominations for her album Brat. Beyond Album and Record of the Year, she’s up for Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Dance Pop Recording, Best Dance/Electronic Album, and Best Remixed Recording. The music video for her song “360,” featuring Chloë Sevigny, Rachel Sennott, and Julia Fox, is also in the running for Best Music Video.
